sea captain's house

amazingfoodand service. our waiter was attentive without being overly so. lunch time was perfect. prices were reasonable for the quality.

what happened?. i have dined at this restaurant several times over the years and have always enjoyed thier food. i must have caught it on the wrong night because i had mediorcefood, at best. the service was excellent, but i knew there could be problems when i arrived because there was a heated discussion taking place at the recptionist's desk between the executive chef and one of the matre'de's.

i was seated promtly with a great view of the ocean. i ordered the avocado/crab appetizer and it was served fresh, cold, and quite tasty. the sea captain's hush puppys are still the best i've eaten anywhere, and they haven't changed.. still good, but the rest of the meal was awlful.

the salad looked like it was thrown on a plate. there were no spring greens, no variety, and the "house dressing" was boring, at best. the broiled oysters were tasteless. they were not seasoned at all, and the fried oysters were prepared in a batter that was soft after frying. it was as if they were pre-fried and kept warm under a heat lamp. i had to ask for chives and crushed bacon for the baked potato, and the amount of sour cream which came with the potato could have been placed on a teaspoon.

it is truely a shame to have one of the best seafood restaurants slip. the orginial owner ( who recently passed) would have wanted the quality to remain high. if the family is going to continue operating this restaurant, they need to restore it to the same level of quality that existed in the past.

best she-crab soup i've ever had. most of the otherfoodwas good but not amazing. worth it for the soup though!

i thought thefoodwas overpriced for the quality. the crab cakes are worth trying though. the tuna was too dry and bland.

delicious and gorgeous!foodis light but very filling, and they are right on the beach so its a beautiful place. we had the 'scallops and grits' appetizer and it was amazing, try it!

charming old beachhouse. thefoodwas delicious, if a bit pricey. this is a place you might go for your one special dinner in myrtle beach. i will regrettably add that the dinner salad was watery and bland. it is in an old renovated house that is just beautiful. right on the beach with lot's of windows, so there is not a bad table in the place. service was very friendly and very good.. we also had 2 breakfasts here. the first time we had the buffet, and the second time we ordered off the menu. would really recommend choosing a breakfast off the menu rather than the buffet. the buffet is all you can eat, so choose this only if you intend to gorge yourself. the menu breakfasts are very generous, and less expensive. our waiter for the buffet was not attentive and my poor husband had to eat his homefries without ketchup. he also couldn't find the syrup for his pancakes, but that is not the restaurants fault.

nice evening out. been here twice. was a nice quiet atmosphere. we had a nice spot overlooking the ocean. i think it was a slow night.
it is considered fine dining. if dress codes need to be explained to you then maybe check out a fastfoodjoint.
the service was excellent. the meal was good too.

oldie but goodie. history is interesting,foodis quite good. best she-crab soup we've had in myrtle b. they don't take reservations, wait can be long for dinner.try for the "blue room" for the best view. went for lunch, back for dinner. "seafood muddle" very good, chock full of seafood. complimentary hush puppies fantastic! crab cakes perfectly done...service excellent!

i did not know they served breakfast but we happened to stop by during our morning walk. thefoodwas really top quality and our server was so friendly and happy to be there. a very enjoyable morning breakfast.

food is really good. went for the breakfast buffet, was about $10 per person had a omelet station and eggs made to order. had fresh fruit, orange juice, and hotfoodselections

friendly staff and nice location - mediocre food. great view of the ocean from the lower level seating .foodvery mediocre and overpriced. i had the crab cakes and spinach salad. the crab cakes were tiny and mostly filler- mushy and greasy - served with a butter sauce which was flavorless and a detraction instead of enhancement. the spinach salad needed about half the dressing and drizzled over it instead of drowned.. they should consider a mandolin slicer for the onion and thin toasted almond slices instead of the thick nut slivers ... my husband had the special and the fish was very over cooked and had been sitting.. not freshly prepared. my son would not even eat the kids grilled cheese as it was burnt on one side and very greasy. the wine was cheap (house cab) - dessert was ok though - don't go out of your way to get here

steer clear if you want a flavorful meal. went here for brunch. the view was awesome and the staff friendly.foodwas very bland. needs an update big time. very closterphbic inside as well.

lovely place. my family and i ate dinner here tonight and i was very impressed. the atmosphere was so charming and thefoodwas some of the best i've had in the area. i would definitely come again the next time we're down.

paying for the view. went there for dinner on vacation. there are very few restaurants in or around myrtle beach with a direct ocean view, so this was nice. the view was good, the service was good, thefoodwas just ok. if you're going for dinner, i recommend you get there when they open, otherwise be prepared for a long wait.
