sammy's gourmet burgers and beer

beware. one of my co-workers decided to have sammy's for lunch today. we pulled the menu up online and placed our orders. iorderedthe chicken caesar salad for $5.95. what i got was a bowl full of lettuce, one piece of chicken, a few diced tomatoes, a very small amount of dried out cheese and the wrong dressing...of which i was charged $8.20 to go. when i called them they simply said the website must be wrong. i would have been disappointed in this salad at $5.95. knowing i paid $8.20 for it just makes me mad! you get a much better salad from wendy's. lesson learned

the food was just okay. i got the black bean burger and my husband got the fire in the hole burger. both the burgers and the appetizer were not very fresh when we got them. the jalapeño poppers weorderedcame out very fast and the cheese inside was not even melted. friendly staff and homey environment.

i have to cast a dissenting vote here on sammys after a less than good experience there last night

i'll start with what went well. the smell of burgers cooking as i came in from the parking lot was excellent and gave me some high hopes for my meal. smelled like a summer picnic with dad on the charcoal grill. waitress was solidly good, answered my many questions, and allowed me to get half and half on my fries (half garlic, half sweet potato)

everything else went rather badly. for 12.00 i received an overcooked (mw when mr was requested) and fairly dry burger with shredded lettuce (at this price point, i expected a nice piece or two of leaf lettuce) one slice of cheese instead of the two iorderedand paid extra for, and no grilled onions. when i pointed out that there were no grilled onions, a dish of oil-soaked barely cooked (no browning, no charring) onions was brought to me to add . i had asked if the bun was toasted or grilled in the aforementioned many questions, was told it was toasted, but this one wasn't. the fries brought to me on the first try were the wrong kind, and the ones that were brought to me as a correction were cold, old, and lacking anything remotely resembling crispness

i was asked how my experience was on the way out, and was honest about it. i did not expect to be comped, but it is nice to be offered to be comped or at least discounted, and i wasn't.

it is clear to me that this place has the ability to put out much better food than i received, but on this night, that wasn't the case. i won't be returning.

food was good....but the server not so much. the food was pretty good.....but wow the server had to be on something. when iorderedone of the nathan hotdogs she asked me how i wanted it cooked. i asked her since when do hot dogs get cooked at different temperatures? and she looked at me blankley and said oh yeah. my spouseordereda mushroom burger. when our server brought the food. she brought him a mushroom hotdog. he told her heordereda mushroom burger. she said that it was a mushroom burger. i said then why is there a hot dog in it? haaaaaaaaaaa wow is all i can say. thank goodness the food tasted pretty good.

properly cooked; great service. we stumbled upon this place when we were staying at hotel in blue ash. before leaving town we stopped in to grab a bite to eat. let me tell you we were surprised. weorderedtwo burgers (i can't even remember what kind) but they were cooked exactly to order. so few places know how to cook a burger properly its amazing. we also had an awesome waiter who was helpful in suggesting the bottle caps. man was he right. they were delicious! it's not a low calorie meal by all means but for the first time in a while it was worth every calorie.

guac burger was a winner. 10 burger aficianados went to sammy's a little while back, for the first time. the one individual who had been there previously swore up and down about the sammys burger. weorderedthe guac burger and the bleu cheese burger. i really liked the guac but, to be honest, didnt care for the bc burger. it wasorderedmedium and served well done. i cant stand well done so that was a fatal flaw for me.

the bartender was super friendly and the owner/manager was very accomodating. they emptied the last of the sierra nevada keg and tapped the yuenging. we have the ceremonial title of first yuengling quaffers at sammys. that really impressed us, they went the extra mile to accomodate us.

it was busy when we arrived around 7pm but it died down a tad within the first hour. a good time was had by all. just keep an eye on proper grilling temperatures, chef. it can make or break ya!

iorderedthe guacamole burger, which comes with chipotle mayo, guac, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and mexican melting cheese ($9.50). oh, hi, i love you.

good food; terrible service. a group of 6 of us went there on 11/20. dining room was about 2/3 full. hostess didn't have a good command of the english language & frankly, neither did our server which is a must when taking food orders & serving the public. as the customer, it was annoying to have to deal with that.
weorderedappetizers of garlic fries (a bit over the top & the form of garlic on this will give you terrible indigestion!), spinach dip (ok) and fried shrimp that were great! we asked the server if they could toss the shrimp in some medium wing sauce & bring a side of blue cheese dressing...you know, buffalo shrimp? the server didn't understand what we were requesting. we finallyordereda side of wing sauce & dressing & did it ourselves.
everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. 4 of us had burgers (tasty & a great bun), 1ordereda grilled salmon sandwich & it looked fantastic and 1ordereda grilled chicken sandwich.
we will go back but if the service is bad again, we probably won't go back. there's at least 5 other great burger places around town with fantastic service.

the final hurrah.... after being told by my cardiologist that there was an issue with my stress test.. and that i was set for an angiogram the next day.. what better way to go than to eat a grease burger.... so, since sammy's was next door to my hotel we stopped and expected really nothing out of the ordinary.. iordereda blue cheese burger.. this was love at first bite.. .. the next day my angiogram showed absolutley nothing wrong.. so, with my hospital wrist band still on we stopped at sammy's for lunch.. this time a nathan's hot dog with grilled peppers.. totally awesome.. now, each time we visit my cardiologist in cinci we stop at sammy's.. a different burger, garlic fries and the best taste this side of chicago and newyork.. .. for those of you who complain.. its a free country... but,this is absolutely the best in ohio.. even better than mike symon's in cleveland..

stopped in for lunch on a friday with 2 buddies. very busy but the wait was minimal. i had the bleu burger with bacon added and fries. everything was amazing! i especially enjoyed the delicious bun. my friendorderedthe garlic parmesan fries, which were a big hit. give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!

i've eaten at sammy's severl times now and each time the food has been very good and service prompt, even when the place is packed. the fries are good, and i especially like the garlic fries. the bf hadordereda regular burger, chili burger (twice), and the mushroom burger. he has proclaimed them all very tasty. i'veorderedthe veggie burger, which is grilled veggies and not a patty. i especially like the fact that the grilled veggies include zucchini, besides the typical mushrooms, onions and peppers. the buns are very soft and fresh and very tasty. they also stand up the the grilled veggies. per the bf, the large beer is too large and the small beer too small. each time i eat at sammy's i can't wait to go back.

2nd time is better. my husband and i tried this,ordereda burger and spinach dip. the burgers were grey and a weird texture, mine was missing half the ingredients, turns out it was the wrong burger. i questioned my waiter twice but he assured me it was right. wow. spinach dip was lacking garlic and all other flavors except "canned spinach after-taste". yuck!. but to my surprise, my second visit, which was just yesterday was awesome! the burger iorderedwas right, second time was the charm. texture still a bit off and color a bit grey....but not too bad, i think it is how they process the patties. matter of fact, i am going to be enjoying my dinner there this evening when i get off work. my opinion about this place....please put more mexican food on the menu...that is your calling sammy! cincy has suffered a horrible blow by all local don pablos closing except two....lets see what you got!

friday @ noon - not the best time to go!. well....ours was a 'corporate' order - about 8-10 separate itemsorderedby phone. they told me up front it would be about 30 minutes, so i planned accordingly. got there, waited 5 minutes for the order - waited about 15 minutes to check out! got back to the office with lukewarm food and the order was wrong...missing stuff, wrong stuff, etc. the burgers were tasty, but dry (sammy sauce was missing from everything). quesdilla was bland, spinach dip came in a half-empty container, with no lid, and was bland also....will we go back? not if i have to drive!!!
