great sushi terrible service. the sushi here is fantastic. the derbyrollin particular is delicious. we had terrible service. the bartender was our waiter and he spent a lot of time chatting with a couple girls at the bar while we waited and waited for our drinks. we also waited way too long (around ten minutes after we put our card in the folder) to pay our bill while he and
another employee talked to one
another. very annoying. hopefully, roppongi will work out the service issues because the food is excellent.

mediocre, not my favorite for sushi or hibachi. roppongi was not bad but not great either. first, i had expected the interior of the restaurant to be a lot nicer judging from the exterior. in terms of atmosphere, roppongi was fine but if you sat in a booth, the tables and booths were kind of cheap looking while nagasaki really has a nice decor with the pond and bridges and fish tanks.

i ordered the bento box for $24 and my husband ordered the chicken bolgogi. they first brought out salads and soup. both were fine, but i much prefer nagasaki's salad dressing and soup. then they brought a spicy tuna handrollthat came with my bento. that was probably the highlight for me. i'd never had a hand roll, and i enjoyed the spiciness.

the bento came with tempura shrimp and vegetables (sweet potato and potato) and that was pretty good. the californiarollwas not bad but just meh. i would say the hibachi vegetables, shrimp and beef were a little on the cool temperature side - not bad, but the beef was kind of odd. it was like they had cut a cross section through a rib, rather than serve it length-wise, so you were getting a small bone with meat around it.

my husband's chicken bolgogi was one of the menu recommended items, but it was pretty disappointing. the pieces of chicken had a really odd texture - almost looked like chicken livers to me. the sauce on the chicken and noodles was ok, but far from a favorite, and neither of us would have listed this entree as a signature dish to the restaurant.

so overall it was not a bad experience - the service was good, but if i want hibachi i won't come back again but will go to nagasaki or even zuki.

worth the trip. my hubby n i've had sushi in many cities. roopanji ranks as some of the best ever. try top secret, dynamiterolln playboy. we also had tempura veggies n edamame. we asked the chefs to recommend n just set us up. we also asked our waiter for suggestions. we weren't disappointed. the service was excellent. the food was fresh and delicious. my only suggestion is next time i'd ask them to stage the food a bit so it doesn't all come out at once but this i would consider our fault not theirs. if we lived here in evansville we'd be back weekly for sure!

good food. overall, i was happy with my experience at roppongi. the decor is modern, clean japanese style, with a very open floor-plan. we visited for lunch about a week or so after they had opened, and chose to sit in the sushi section. the staff was friendly, and our waitress attentive. i started with the house salad, and did not like the dressing at all (i normally love the dressing at japanese restaurants, but was not a fan of this version.) my boyfriend had the miso soup, and said it tasted like every other miso soup he's ever had (which is a good thing in his opinion). we ordered 3 of the vegetarian rolls, the oshinko, avocado, and another i can't recall. the vegetarianrollselection on the menu was pretty boring, no interesting combinations, no sauces, just your standard 'one type of vegetable' rolls. our sushi was good, but not great-they all pretty much tasted the same, and i found myself dunking them in soy sauce to add some kind of flavor (which i'm not normally compelled to do). i also ordered the tempura vegetables, and the small plate had a about six slices of vegetables on it...good but don't expect to be filled up by it. i would be willing to give this place another try, because it seems to have potential, but the lack of creativity in the vegetarian offerings was pretty disappointing.
