had a fantastic night atrimrockcafe, celebrating my family visiting from overseas. i had the elk with gnocchi and my mother ate a trio of fish that was a special. both impeccable, we left full and very happy. not cheap but a very high recommendation from my family and i!

i had the pleasure of visitingrimrockfor the first time during the whistler indulge dining series.

for my three-course meal, i selected the ceviche, the tuna poke and seared ahi tuna tataki, and the alaskan scallops and lobster. my dining partner selected the mussels, the sablefish, and the braised lamb shank. the ceviche was served on a nest of shredded purple cabbage with avocado, sliced radish, and corn chips. the dish components were light and not overly-acidic; the only fault was that the corn chips tasted stale. my second course was very tasty - the tuna poke was the highlight. the texture of the tuna and the sesame flavour were perfect. the sesame tuille topping also added a hint of unexpected sweetness. my partner's sablefish was served with tobiko, spinach gomae, and topped with wonton crisps. it was his favourite plate of the night. the scallops and lobster in my third course were perfectly-cooked. the lemon beurre blanc and splash of balsamic vinegar dressed the seafood well. my partner commented that his bone-in lamb shank was tender but, unfortunately, lacking in flavour. overall, the food was great and i would recommend the restaurant without hesitation.

another notable element of the experience was the service. our server had a warm, yet polished, approach - she was friendly without being too casual. quite exceptional.

this is the perfect time to be in whistler. it's the shoulder season between winter and summer, and all the top restaurants have incredible 4 and 5 courses affordable for the working guy.rimrockwas recommended to me by a longtime resident of whistler. thursday nights 4 course meal was the best i have experienced in quite a long time. i had the sauteed wild mushroom salad, scallops with pork belly (omg yum), the mixed grill (medium rare and so good) and sticky toffee pudding.rimrockcafe is now my go-to restaurant in whistler.

not what we expected, but a good experience all the same. after all the hype about rimrock, we made a booking on a saturday night. a remotely located venue is located in a quaint cottage approximately 10-15 minute drive from the main village.

the first thing that took us by surprise was that that for a restaurant that is frequently touted the 'best fine dining in whistler', was the extremely noisy 'diner style' environment. once me moved on from this, we ordered some beer and wine and settled into what was to be a very enjoyable evening of very good food and attentive service. the portion sizes were smallish however the flavours and presentation were very good, not quite 'best in whistler' but well worth revisiting.

i suspect thatrimrockhas been a long term favourite of locals who have many fond memories of times gone by, however, in my opinion there are better dining experiences in terms of decor, food and value to be had elsewhere in whislter. 7/10

rimrock cafe is the first of the fine dining restaurants that i am visiting for my destination whistler: five days of fine dining story. we had a reservation for 6 pm and the shuttle bus from the westin resort and spa dropped us off at the restaurant, shortly before 6 pm. in the interests of getting the most variety of taste experience we had decided in advance to focus on sharing appetizers and small plates, wherever possible. our server, venetia, who was knowledgeable, friendly an attentive without being too obtrusive, assured us that the soup and salad could be plated in two halves by the kitchen, but if it would ruin the presentation they would prefer not to. since it was only the soup that we really wanted that way, that was fine. we also asked not to have the dishes brought out all at once and venetia said she would bring them one out a time tags fine dining food reviewrimrockcafe whistl

second try. once again, therimrockcouldn't live up to the hype. i thought maybe my first try was a fluke, so i decided to give it another go.

1. the calamari was under-seasoned.

2. the cherry sauce on the venison was overpowering.

3. the halibut was so overcooked and bland.

4. the venison on the mixed grill was the same as the venison on the mid course.

5. the cocktail menu is uninspired and cliche, not fitting for a high end restaurant.

6. the support staff was appalling. they dropped dishes off at the table without a word, and it bothers me that they wear crewneck t-shirts.

once again, overall, rimrockwas more of a joke than anything else.

good dining" not "fine dining. the food here is seafood and game comfort food, done well, but not spectacularly. for the price and all the hype, i was expecting something much more superior. the dishes are simple - nothing new or innovative or creative. at a renown "fine dining" restaurant, i would have expected each plate to be carefully thought out, with elements of intention. instead, i was appalled to find the same vegetable packet on every plate, whether it was meat or fish. thoughtless and lazy! this restaurant would never survive in a metropolitan city where foodies run rampant. thankfully, they're located in a ski town where the tourists often forget to pack their common sense.

experiencewas so-so, didn't meet expectations. we decided to try therimrockcafe in whistler (by creekside) as it was recommended to me by one of my coworkers as her favourite restaurant in bc. the drinks we had were a great start - allan had some wine and i had a kiwi lime brazilian caipirinha . my drink was sooooooo good.

the appetizers were also pretty good... i had the scallop lobster capellini (very delicate... loved it), and allan had the cariboo medallions (good, but not as good as the venison at araxi).

for dinner we had the gnocchi, mushroom risotto with sablefish, and salmon stuffed with crab. i personally thought the gnocchi and the sablefish were pretty good but the mushroom risotto was terrible. very acidic and not creamy at all - more like a rice pilaf. would not order again. just terrible risotto.

allan liked his salmon but thought it was too rich and the crab overpowered the salmon. the dessert was the toffee pudding which was amazing. so basically - we would go there for drinks and dessert but probably not dinner again.
