i had the pleasure of visiting rimrock for the first time during the whistler indulgediningseries.

for my three-course meal, i selected the ceviche, the tuna poke and seared ahi tuna tataki, and the alaskan scallops and lobster. mydiningpartner selected the mussels, the sablefish, and the braised lamb shank. the ceviche was served on a nest of shredded purple cabbage with avocado, sliced radish, and corn chips. the dish components were light and not overly-acidic; the only fault was that the corn chips tasted stale. my second course was very tasty - the tuna poke was the highlight. the texture of the tuna and the sesame flavour were perfect. the sesame tuille topping also added a hint of unexpected sweetness. my partner's sablefish was served with tobiko, spinach gomae, and topped with wonton crisps. it was his favourite plate of the night. the scallops and lobster in my third course were perfectly-cooked. the lemon beurre blanc and splash of balsamic vinegar dressed the seafood well. my partner commented that his bone-in lamb shank was tender but, unfortunately, lacking in flavour. overall, the food was great and i would recommend the restaurant without hesitation.

another notable element of the experience was the service. our server had a warm, yet polished, approach - she was friendly without being too casual. quite exceptional.

not what we expected, but a good experience all the same. after all the hype about rimrock, we made a booking on a saturday night. a remotely located venue is located in a quaint cottage approximately 10-15 minute drive from the main village.

the first thing that took us by surprise was that that for a restaurant that is frequently touted the 'best finediningin whistler', was the extremely noisy 'diner style' environment. once me moved on from this, we ordered some beer and wine and settled into what was to be a very enjoyable evening of very good food and attentive service. the portion sizes were smallish however the flavours and presentation were very good, not quite 'best in whistler' but well worth revisiting.

i suspect that rimrock has been a long term favourite of locals who have many fond memories of times gone by, however, in my opinion there are betterdiningexperiences in terms of decor, food and value to be had elsewhere in whislter. 7/10

me and my wife ate here while up at whistler for skiing. we went expecting oysters. this is not an oyster bar. don't let the name fool you. what this is is an excellent upscale restaurant. i was delightful surprised by the variety of selections on the menu choosing to have the mixed grill with steak, venison and lamb chop. all cooked perfectly and very flavorful. the oyster were good too. good wine selection and good deserts. good ambience as well. if staying in the village you will need a car or to get a taxi. it's just a short drive from the village. i enjoy finediningand this was a pleasant surprise in whistler. later found out that locals consider it to be one of the better restaurants in the area and i have no doubt that it is. not for kids, just you and the wife. yes its pricey, all finediningis. i highly recommend it.

rimrock cafe is the first of the finediningrestaurants that i am visiting for my destination whistler: five days of finediningstory. we had a reservation for 6 pm and the shuttle bus from the westin resort and spa dropped us off at the restaurant, shortly before 6 pm. in the interests of getting the most variety of taste experience we had decided in advance to focus on sharing appetizers and small plates, wherever possible. our server, venetia, who was knowledgeable, friendly an attentive without being too obtrusive, assured us that the soup and salad could be plated in two halves by the kitchen, but if it would ruin the presentation they would prefer not to. since it was only the soup that we really wanted that way, that was fine. we also asked not to have the dishes brought out all at once and venetia said she would bring them one out a time tags finediningfood review rimrock cafe whistl
