best in whistler!. celebrating 40 years of marriage together we were looking for the best dining experience in whistler. we found it! the chefs at rim rock just know how to do it. started by sharing the duck terrine...it was great. partner had crab & salmon cakes...very good. i had the scallops & pork belly...perfect. we finished by sharing the rimrock trio. highly recommend this dish. chef knows how to do red meat. bottle of california zin put it all together. and what can i say about venetia. what great service!

our server was professional, knowledgeable and made the experience a memorable one before our food even arrived. the few times i’ve been able to enjoy dinner here, i have always been amazed with the outstanding service. the food could speak for itself. the flavours are powerful and decadent without being overwhelming. every course is delicious and beautifully prepared.  my friends were equally impressed with all four courses. the menu has a great selection of choices that appeal to many different preferences. i have yet to be disappointed and highly doubt i ever will be. you can enjoy this special any day of the week and it runs until june 27th, so you better hurry and make reservations fast!  f

had a fantastic night at rimrock cafe, celebrating my family visiting from overseas. i had the elk with gnocchi and my mother ate a trio of fish that was a special. both impeccable, we left full and very happy. not cheap but a very high recommendation from my family and i!

favourite place in my life so far!!! great service with well informed waiters and food to die for. the lobster mashed potato is a must for anyone going ( and i don't even eat lobster ) the lamb cutlets were also delicious and well as the platter of desserts. well sized portions as too.

best place in whistler was also a popular opinion among locals.

i had the pleasure of visiting rimrock for the first time during the whistler indulge dining series.

for my three-course meal, i selected the ceviche, the tuna poke and seared ahi tuna tataki, and the alaskan scallops and lobster. my dining partner selected the mussels, the sablefish, and the braised lamb shank. the ceviche was served on a nest of shredded purple cabbage with avocado, sliced radish, and corn chips. the dish components were light and not overly-acidic; the only fault was that the corn chips tasted stale. my second course was very tasty - the tuna poke was the highlight. the texture of the tuna and the sesame flavour were perfect. the sesame tuille topping also added a hint of unexpected sweetness. my partner's sablefish was served with tobiko, spinach gomae, and topped with wonton crisps. it was his favourite plate of the night. the scallops and lobster in my third course were perfectly-cooked. the lemon beurre blanc and splash of balsamic vinegar dressed the seafood well. my partner commented that his bone-in lamb shank was tender but, unfortunately, lacking in flavour. overall, the food was great and i would recommend the restaurant without hesitation.

another notable element of the experience was the service. our server had a warm, yet polished, approach - she was friendly without being too casual. quite exceptional.

i got an app, a main, couple oysters (vodka + creme fraiche) and a bottle of wine. even though it was extremely expensive, it was nothing short of amazing. the seared scallops on roasted pork belly was a good introduction to the mixed grill that i had. i was so impressed that i came back the next day to try the ahi tuna, and it was also very good. would recommend!

-----16 may, 2014-----

this is the perfect time to be in whistler. it's the shoulder season between winter and summer, and all the top restaurants have incredible 4 and 5 courses affordable for the working guy. rimrock was recommended to me by a longtime resident of whistler. thursday nights 4 course meal was the best i have experienced in quite a long time. i had the sauteed wild mushroom salad, scallops with pork belly (omg yum), the mixed grill (medium rare and so good) and sticky toffee pudding. rimrock cafe is now my go-to restaurant in whistler.

we had a great meal here tonight. had the specials: arctic char, and seafood trio of salmon, ahi tuna and sablefish. our server, venetia, made it welcoming & fun. she also provided a great wine recommendation.

as excellent as we hoped. i ate dinner here about 3 years ago with a good friend and was extremely impressed. in whistler 2 years ago with the family we tried to visit over the christmas period only to be told of a 100 booking wait list. returning to whistler for xmas/ny 2013/2014 this became a 'simply must do' on our list.

i mention this particularly as my review differs completely from one just posted on jan 7 - the same night we visited. with a build up to the visit like my family had had one could expect disapointment to come very easily. rim rock did not disappoint. it was simply excellent. from service, to food to wine and wine advice we could not fault the place. our starters included the local bread, the calamari, the prawn cocktail and the seared tuna. mains were rack of lamb, salmon, mixed grill and lobster.

we enjoyed everything completely. the food was of extremely high quality and well balanced with respect to flavors, textures and other foodie important parameters.

yes with cocktails, wine and after dinner drinks it wasn't a cheap night out but it was on a par with what i expected.

great place and still very, very happy to reccomend it. currently the friend that i originally dined here with and i are both sitting on 2 visits each to rim rock and i am sorely tempted to push that to 3-2 by visiting again before we leave town!

oh and 2 hours later there are no upset stomachs and 3 out of 4 of us are sound asleep! enjoy!

good not great. went to dinner xmas week. food was good-ordered the venison and filet but the meat wasn't as flavorful as those cuts should be. the service was too attentive. whenever we looked up from our table the waiter was there, and asked us several times during each course if everything was ok. it was too much, kind of felt like we were being stalked. loved the kids menu, finally something that wasn't just burgers, pizza and grilled cheese.

in the tourist trap wasteland of whistler we were really thrilled with the experience here.

the food was great. the lobster bisque had a unique light nutty flavour. the duck two ways tasted perfect. the venison was amazing. the dessert sampler for two was delish.

more than that the service was so friendly and our waitress was a real pro. great smile and she knew her wines. this place was friendly with zero pretension.

the prices aren't cheap but easily worth it for food and service that top notch.

really nice place. my husband and i came here for out 10 year wedding anniversary. we enjoyed excellent service and a superb dinner. i have the ahi tuna to start, and it was really well prepared, served at the right temperature, just perfect. my husband had muscles, and they were sublime. we both ordered venison, and it was beautiful. we were so happy, we ordered the best armagnac on the menu with our desserts. i highly recommend this place, excellent meal vs price.

not what we expected, but a good experience all the same. after all the hype about rimrock, we made a booking on a saturday night. a remotely located venue is located in a quaint cottage approximately 10-15 minute drive from the main village.

the first thing that took us by surprise was that that for a restaurant that is frequently touted the 'best fine dining in whistler', was the extremely noisy 'diner style' environment. once me moved on from this, we ordered some beer and wine and settled into what was to be a very enjoyable evening of very good food and attentive service. the portion sizes were smallish however the flavours and presentation were very good, not quite 'best in whistler' but well worth revisiting.

i suspect that rimrock has been a long term favourite of locals who have many fond memories of times gone by, however, in my opinion there are better dining experiences in terms of decor, food and value to be had elsewhere in whislter. 7/10
