where do l begin? rim naam is one of those places i have always had in my bookmarks, waiting patiently for the right opportunity to visit, given the fact that a visit to rim naam which many dub as the place you go to get the "best thai food in bangalore" is not going to be easy on the pocket. having booked our table we set off on a weekday hoping the place wouldn't be too crowded.
first the ambience, and predictably i have nothing to complain about, the setting is beautiful and so is the lighting. a big thumbs up in almost all aspects when it comes to setting up a luxurious dining experience.
lets talk about food. being a vegetarian convert, i am aware of the fact that you should not expect dishes that were created/designed to be eaten with meat to taste just as good converted to accommodate a vegetarian palate. that being said i looked forward to a delicious meal.
we ordered the tom yum soup along with batter fried mushrooms with garlic pepper sauce and their thai style almond cakes. the tom yum was delicious, a bit on the spicy side, but nevertheless bursting with flavour. the mushrooms were also really tasty, doused in pepper, it complimented the neautral notes of the mushrooms really well. the thai style almond cakes served with a bao, was a complete miss. very dry with even the accompanying plum sauce not able to help the dish. taste wise as well was no where close to the other dishes. for main course we ordered the thai green curry. having tasted really good thai green curry in places like misu, you mee and nasi and mee i wanted it to blow my socks off. well it didn't. not even close. for paying close to 2k just for the curry and rice, it was a real disappointment. the texture was grainy, the vegetables were diced unevenly , you had strings of beans as longer than my finger and the flavours were completely off, to a point where we ended up wasting the food, unable to eat it. finally for dessert we ordered the slow baked lemon and chilli cheese cake. the cheese cake was delicious and the flavour combinations with the chilli was spot on.
thestaffwere courteous and care was taken to ensure social distancing and hand sanitisation which gave us peace of mind while dining.
my experience in rim naam was bittersweet, but the thai green curry speaking both literally and metaphorically was tough to swallow.
