is this really the best fried chicken in sydney? i feel like that's a pretty hard question to answer now as there are so many great korean fried chicken joints around, and it's more a question of which flavours each top tier establishment excels at. red pepper and their other icg counterparts definitely have a few varieties that they do best, and here in the sports club they also have a few other things going for them.
first off, i've had all their chicken at least a couple of times now, and i'm at a point where there are only 3 things i will order here: spring onion, incredible ganjung and sweet and spicy. for the other varieties there are better takes on them elsewhere, especially the snow cheese and classic garlic soy which are quite weak here. spring onion here is divine, sauce hasgoodwasabi hit and overall not too heavy. it'sgoodto order with one of the saucier ones to balance. incredible ganjung has awesome spice element from the cinnamon, and is a flavour unique to icg. sweet and spicy sauce is one of the best around, and really cant go wrong with this classic.
the club itself is hot off a recent renovation. they have their own decently sized car park, nice outdoor area and of course a bar. this means draft beer and drink variety here far exceeds any other chicken place, and they even have draft makgeolli. also present is a cafe, where you can get drinks and dessert. atmosphere here is great, as many come here in big groups. it gets very busy even on weekdays, but i find the wait for a table is usually not long. wait times for chicken however, can exceed 1 hr so make sure you ask if you don't want to wait too long.
