i was in the vicinity with a few friends and all of being fans of indo-chinese cuisine, we decided to have dinner at red hot chilli pepper.

the place has been done up well and service was pretty prompt. although some our silverware had to be replaced since they were not as clean.

we got started with the crispy chilly potatoes and dry cauliflower manchurian for appetizers. while the chilly potatoes were not as crispy, the cauliflower manchurian was full of flavor and spicy.

for the mains, we got the schezwan fried rice which seemed more like the regular fried rice with very little schezwan sauce. the hakkanoodleson the other hand were quite nice and the sizzling vegetables that we ordered along with it were pretty good too. although, i was a little disappointed with the portion size of the sizzling vegetable for the price paid.

and then came the best part of the meal - desserts! the fried ice cream was good but the outer batter was a little too thick. but having said that, i really like the overall flavor.

but the chocolate pyramid was the show-stealer and an absolute delight

the overall experience was average with a few hits and misses.

red hot chilli pepper - one of the best indo-chinese restaurant in bay area. i always make reservation online. a table reservation is highly recommended if you are planning to go on weekend. the food here is quite spicy and have the right amount of spices which is meant to appeal the tastebuds. the servers here are are polite and amiable.

i have tried quite a few dishes at rhcp. starting with soup, i have tried their hot n sour and machow soup. i would recommend manchow soup over hot n sour. manchow soup has a distinct aroma that reminds you of the soup that we all get in any chinese restaurant in india. from their small plates, dry chilli chicken, dry cauliflower manchurian and crispy chilli potato - they all are amazing. small plate portions are not large enough.

i like their calcutta chicken, indo china basil chicken, chilli chicken and chicken in hot garlic sauce are delicious. i would recommend indo china basil chicken and chilli chicken. they are super fantastic. from their rice andnoodlesmenu, i have only tried hakkanoodlesand chilli garlic noodles. the chilli garlicnoodlesare soft, slightly on the spicier side and always cooked to perfection. i just love it!!

my hunt for a good indi-chinese restaurant continues. this was better that all the others i have been to so far in the bay area.

started with the munchow soup that was spot on. the hakkanoodlesand tangra chicken were tasty too. chilly baby corn was just about ok.

the prawn preparation (chilly prawn i think) fell very short of our expectation. the fried rice was greasy and is avoidable.

the place was pretty crowded for lunch. luckily, we had made reservations.

service is so-so.

mixed feeling about the food and hence the average rating.

one person in my group did not like cauliflower much and he wasn't happy with the idea of ordering gobi manchurian.but once it came and we asked him to taste,he finished the whole plate. hahaha.it was super yummy!

even the schezwan fried rice, chilli garlicnoodleswere upto the mark.

not being a big fan of indo-chinese cuisine, i did not expect this restaurant to wow me in any way and it didn't. been here multiple times as most of my colleagues tend to crave this very indian cuisine when visiting the us.

food here tends to be fried and oily; with a generous dose of spices with very little subtelty to speak of. portions are generous - do keep that in mind when ordering rice andnoodlesto accompany your entrees.

i recommend this place only if you are nostalgic about eting indo-chinese food as most of my colleagues love this place; and it's relatively easy on the pocket.
