if indo-chinese food is your thing then it’s a ok place to go.
when i visited friends in town they insisted on me trying this place as i’m a big fan of chinese food. sfriedrice were spicy with little ingredients apart from the rice. lotus root were well cooked with kind of a tangy sweet manchu sauce. friends loved it as always and i’m still undecided on how i feel about the place. at least it was freshly cooked and presented well.

i was in the vicinity with a few friends and all of being fans of indo-chinese cuisine, we decided to have dinner at red hot chilli pepper.

the place has been done up well and service was pretty prompt. although some our silverware had to be replaced since they were not as clean.

we got started with the crispy chilly potatoes and dry cauliflower manchurian for appetizers. while the chilly potatoes were not as crispy, the cauliflower manchurian was full of flavor and spicy.

for the mains, we got the schezwanfriedrice which seemed more like the regularfriedrice with very little schezwan sauce. the hakka noodles on the other hand were quite nice and the sizzling vegetables that we ordered along with it were pretty good too. although, i was a little disappointed with the portion size of the sizzling vegetable for the price paid.

and then came the best part of the meal - desserts! thefriedice cream was good but the outer batter was a little too thick. but having said that, i really like the overall flavor.

but the chocolate pyramid was the show-stealer and an absolute delight

the overall experience was average with a few hits and misses.

my hunt for a good indi-chinese restaurant continues. this was better that all the others i have been to so far in the bay area.

started with the munchow soup that was spot on. the hakka noodles and tangra chicken were tasty too. chilly baby corn was just about ok.

the prawn preparation (chilly prawn i think) fell very short of our expectation. thefriedrice was greasy and is avoidable.

the place was pretty crowded for lunch. luckily, we had made reservations.

service is so-so.

mixed feeling about the food and hence the average rating.

i loved everything about this place! the chilli fish i ordered was just amazing,up to the mark and so soft and fresh!

one person in my group did not like cauliflower much and he wasn't happy with the idea of ordering gobi manchurian.but once it came and we asked him to taste,he finished the whole plate. hahaha.it was super yummy!

even the schezwanfriedrice, chilli garlic noodles were upto the mark.

thank you red hot chilli pepper for bringing back my faith in good indian restaurants in sf.we loved it,enjoyed it! :)

not being a big fan of indo-chinese cuisine, i did not expect this restaurant to wow me in any way and it didn't. been here multiple times as most of my colleagues tend to crave this very indian cuisine when visiting the us.

food here tends to befriedand oily; with a generous dose of spices with very little subtelty to speak of. portions are generous - do keep that in mind when ordering rice and noodles to accompany your entrees.

i recommend this place only if you are nostalgic about eting indo-chinese food as most of my colleagues love this place; and it's relatively easy on the pocket.
