this hawaiian plate lunch in rainbow drive-in is one of barack obama’s favourite comfort foods! locomoco may look unappetizing but you’ll be surprised! it’s basicallyricetopped with 2 burger patties, 2 eggs, a scoop of macaroni salad and gravy all over! plain simple but bursting with flavour! this plate of carbs is just so bombbb, even the locals can’t get enough! the portions are gigantic so if you’re not a huge eater it is best to share!

so good, so filling, price not bad and very generous in the size.
definitely go forriceand pasta and any dish.

i especially like the mahi mahi fish.

a visit home isn't complete.... as a local boy and a now transplanted mainlander, rainbow's is my must-do hometown fix. have even converted my wife (from va) to get into the plate lunch and the teri beef and mahi is her favorite! (tho she's not a fan of thericeand mac salad... no mattah, i get her mac salad... bonus! my kids are fans, too... if i let my son alone, he would just live in the parking lot and eat all 3 meals there. hey, me and the prez can't be wrong!

this past december i went to oahu to get married!  since planning for my wedding was my priority, i didn't really plan to eat anywhere in particular.  i just went with the flow and ate at places wherever my friends and family wanted to eat at.  here are some places we ate out at during our trip: pancakes & waffles  on the morning of my arrival we to pancakes & waffles  for breakfast.  its a small restaurant and was busy the day we went, luckily our food came out relatively fast! my uncle had the fried chicken & waffle .  this picture makes the food smaller than it seems, i was impressed by the portion size, i didn't know pieces of chicken could be  that big (all thanks to genetic modification)!  my meal, the mini breakfast special  was smaller compared to everyone else's.  for this special you get to choose 1) how you want your eggs cooked 2) choose pancakes, toast, fries orriceand 3) choose bacon, link sausage, spam , or portuguese sausage .  overall this was a nice family restauran

had the mixed plate and mahi mahi plate. with a large drink all under $18. mixed plate is a huge serving , comes with fish, beef and chicken. all plates come withriceand mac salad. seating limited when busy .  accepts credit cards and is diner style service - fast and friendly  .service 5/5 food 5/5 value for your dollar 5/5!

plate lunch plate lunch plate lunch! i imagine that the neon sign would look fabulous at night, but a plate lunch is a good way to start the morning. i love the 50s style of the place. hamburger steak smothered with gravy, 2 scoops ofriceand macaroni salad. a cup of kona coffee

stay away from the hash. i've heard nothing but good things about this place so it was with great joy that i decided to give them a try. it was breakfast time, so i got the egg/hashbrown/rice plate.

service was quick and an understanding of english by the staff seemed strained - but friendly.

it was basically sticky/dry white rice, some strange egg square that was supposed to be scrambled eggs, and omg the hash was awful. (btw, my friend who i gave the food to thought it was "good"). i think it was $6.

i have never tried corned beef hash from a can (only "homestyle" - real meat, real potatoes, etc.) and i probably will never again. i like my eggs hot, made with cream/milk/butter, fluffy etc. i like myricenon sticky and full of flavor (prefer spanish rice, my version of course) and i like my corned beef hash homestyle (real meat, fresh potates, etc.).

i'll probably go back but only if someone else really wants to go and they're going to buy my lunch/dinner.
