pretty awesome place looks just like it did on triple d with guy! great food! i had a chili dog plate and it was great! also had the cheeseburger and also tried the moco loco or whatever it's called. very good i was impressed

since our last hawaii vacation, whenever we reminisce about it, rainbow would always be part of it. it wasn't only about the fun food, sitting and eating with the locals, the picnic styled like benches and tables but the whole ambiance. so no surprise, after our arrival at the honolulu airport and securing our rental van, off we went to rainbow. what a great beginning to our vacation!!!!

retro cool. had the mix plate - mahi, chicken and beef - and it was awesome and a great deal. if you're a tourist and a triple-d fan - it's worth the short bus ride from waikiki. prepare to wait in line and don't expect fancy service or ambiance. eat at the outdoor picnic tables, or take it back to the hotel :)

yikes!!. my boyfriend picked this one. we both had the mix plate which included a sampling of fried fish, fried chicken (getting the theme here) and a slab of pork. it tasted less than average and a really waste of calories. the picnic tables were not kept clean. all around it was not an enjoyable experience. for a great outdoor dining experience i recommend heading to the north shore and dining at one of the many shrimp truck along the road.

this thing was a beast— it was tasty in that greasy sort of way and sure did feel like a brick in my stomach hours later. i’d still say this is worth a try, but exercise portion control!

the pinnacle of hawaii comfort food. every trip to oahu should rightly include a stop at rainbow's. even the guy from "diners drive-inns and dives" featured this place.

one of the best part about my hawaii trip is all the yummy food i ate. my boyfriend and i hit up a lot of places that were highly rated on blogs and urbanspoon so today i wanted to share with you some of the things we ate. if you are ever planning a visit to hawaii, i hope you find this post helpful.

had read president obama liked this place.. so that is how i first heard of it (not from here). tried it out for breakfast and wasn't bad. pretty good food for the price. can be busy in the morning from what i saw. will visit again.

not bad, comforting food! not super flavourful, but i can get behind a giant plate of hot food any day of the week. we got the mix plate and loco moco - both are a lot better with a good dash of hot sauce, and prices are great.

mix plate: 7.5/10
loco moco: 6.5/10

this hawaiian plate lunch in rainbow drive-in is one of barack obama’s favourite comfort foods! locomoco may look unappetizing but you’ll be surprised! it’s basically rice topped with 2 burger patties, 2 eggs, a scoop of macaroni salad and gravy all over! plain simple but bursting with flavour! this plate of carbs is just so bombbb, even the locals can’t get enough! the portions are gigantic so if you’re not a huge eater it is best to share!

i had a loco moco bowl and chili fries. the loco moco bowl was good, the chili fries were amazing! there’s lots of outdoor seating although the place can get quite busy!

great place to try once. not to sure we will be making our way back. had the loco moco plate. it was good though nothing special overall. the green river is basically green cool-aid.

i've been eating at rainbow drive in for over 20 years and must say, i've never had a bad experience. great service, great food. you wont be sorry for eating here. aloha

the food was underwhelming. the loco moco bowl was good value but it lacked much flavour. the mix plate was really good. i wouldnt get the loco moco again

popped in for dinner from recommendation from driver who dropped us off at hotel. the food is simple fare but the menu had a lot of offer for most diners. the rainbow burger is great value and the chilli fries are throughly enjoyable. it's a popular spot for those dining in and taking away glad i got the chance to check this place out.
