early this year i visited the skinny pancake, a sort of bohemian creperie and performance space along lake champlain. i hope the shows are good, because the crepes don’t hold a bunsen burner to rachel’s cafe & creperie in lancaster. her skinny pancakes come out of the kitchen piping hot, satisfyingly chewy with lovely crisp edges, folded into neat cones, and packed with more than a dozen different savory or sweet fillings—but i would happily eat one plain.   rachel’s was smart to move from well-worn twin storefronts on queen to a lovely window-lit house on walnut. their redesign features bright trendy chandeliers and wall coverings, a fenced outdoor seating area and off-street parking. even though they added many more seats the lines just seem to get longer. in summer they use a buzzer system to call people to their tables.   even with these fine accomplishments, i would humbly suggest an improvement in each category above:   food: with crepes this good, there really should be excellent coffee. the regular tastes bland to me, and the expresso drinks are hit and miss. could french press be an option   service: my regularbreakfastcompanion often mentions how promptly some restaurants bring water and take drink orders. it is a simple sign of welcome. the service at rachel’s is not bad, but things fall through the cracks. people who have waited to be seated should not have to wait to get their morning caffeine.  http://www.rachelscreperie.com/menu/ posted by low brow diner at 4:41 pm

i've visited rachel's last week and was very pleased with the service. they had a considerable number of customers coming in going, and handled them efficiently and quickly. i had one of thebreakfastcrapes, and it was excellent. it was thicker and the wimpy crêpes i had in richmond. i fully intended to have a buttered crêpe for dessert but after the breakfastcrepe i didn't have room. i will definitely be visiting with these folks early and often.

unique venue, good service, a bit crowded. this is a small intimate venue but worth the tight squeeze. they have a great variety of crepes for any meal you might be in the mood for. their (non-alcoholic) drink menu has a great variety as well.

dishes to consider trying:breakfastcrepes
kid friendly: not a great option for young children or highchair needs due to the crowded nature of the venue.
service: efficient, friendly
atmosphere: cozy, unique
cost: affordable

you wouldn't figure an eatery serving what is typically viewed asbreakfastfood to be busy in the evening but rachel's certainly was.  the savory crepes were the ones to dine on for dinner. no added sugar.  it tasted flat and

went for the first time on sunday and thought the food was very good. the turkey cordon bleu was very good. we also had the turkey club crepe and the thai chicken crepe. all were very good. the menu is limited and the size of the restaurant is small, but the food makes up for it. i would recommend it forbreakfastor brunch.

lovely. this place is truly a must try of lancaster city! they have tons of coffees, hot and iced, teas and smoothies. you can get abreakfastcrepe anytime too. even during a busy lunch i got stellar service. my only criticism is that most of the crepes are more like popular sandwiches made with crepes rather than traditional crepes made with fruits jams and cremes, which you can find a few on the dessert menu.
