rachel's cafe & creperie

early this year i visited the skinny pancake, a sort of bohemian creperie and performance space along lake champlain. i hope the shows are good, because the crepes don’t hold a bunsen burner to rachel’s cafe & creperie in lancaster. her skinny pancakes come out of the kitchen piping hot, satisfyingly chewy with lovely crisp edges, folded into neat cones, and packed with more than a dozen different savory or sweet fillings—but i would happily eat one plain.   rachel’s was smart to move from well-worn twin storefronts on queen to a lovely window-lit house on walnut. their redesign features bright trendy chandeliers and wall coverings, a fenced outdoor seating area and off-street parking. even though they added many more seats the lines just seem to get longer. in summer they use a buzzer system to call people to their tables.   even with these fine accomplishments, i would humbly suggest an improvement in each category above:   food: with crepes this good, there really should be excellent coffee. the regular tastes bland to me, and the expresso drinks are hit and miss. could french press be an option   service: my regular breakfast companion often mentions how promptly some restaurants bring water and take drink orders. it is a simple sign of welcome. the service at rachel’s is not bad, but things fall through the cracks. people who have waited to be seated should not have to wait to get their morning caffeine.  http://www.rachelscreperie.com/menu/ posted by low brow diner at 4:41 pm

wonderful. good stuff. never had a bad crepe. the service is a little slow, but this is because you are getting a handmade, fresh, from scratch food item. sit back, relax and wait for a great meal.

très bon. several friends had recommended rachel's so i made a quick stop this afternoon for a dessert and a coffee. the place was packed (always a good sign), but i was able to get a table. i ordered the tavern on the green crepe (which was the only crepe to be listed as 'dine in only' -- not sure why), which consisted of fresh berries, sour cream, and brown sugar. it was absolutely delicious, and on par with crepes i ate in france. the coffee i ordered was also of good quality and went great with my dessert. i would be curious to try some of their dinner crepes, which the people at the table next to me seemed to be enjoying. looking forward to my next visit.

we stopped in for a late breakfast. the service was excellent, the coffee phenomenal, and the crepes were absolutely the best. with reasonable prices a great location with plenty of natural light, we will return.

the friendliness of the staff could use an improvement here, but the veggie burrito crepe with added chicken is really good. great outdoor seating on a deck.

i've visited rachel's last week and was very pleased with the service. they had a considerable number of customers coming in going, and handled them efficiently and quickly. i had one of the breakfast crapes, and it was excellent. it was thicker and the wimpy crêpes i had in richmond. i fully intended to have a buttered crêpe for dessert but after the breakfast crepe i didn't have room. i will definitely be visiting with these folks early and often.

love rachel's. the owner is wonderful, and the staff are friendly. we've enjoyed every meal we've had there, and never fail to take our out of town company there for a crepe! love the salted caramel nutella mocha, too!

unique venue, good service, a bit crowded. this is a small intimate venue but worth the tight squeeze. they have a great variety of crepes for any meal you might be in the mood for. their (non-alcoholic) drink menu has a great variety as well.

dishes to consider trying: breakfast crepes
kid friendly: not a great option for young children or highchair needs due to the crowded nature of the venue.
service: efficient, friendly
atmosphere: cozy, unique
cost: affordable

worst service. i was in today with my mom and my 7 month old. we waiting 15 plus mins to order drinks. had to ask 3 times for a hight chair. our food came before the chair. i asked for a coffee refil before i started my food and finished before it came. waitress was so rude.
never said sorry once. i asked for it in a togo cup at this point. said i wasnt paying for it considering i already waited 20 min and her smart self proceeded to tell me then i cant take my coffee. no worries her tip paid for my coffee. my last time here for sure. it wasnt even that busy. i was there around 2. this is my 3rd bad expirence in a row. always soooo slow too!! terrible, terrible, terrible.

great food but terrible for parties larger then 4. have been two saturdays in a row with a party of 5 and then of 6. first time i we waited for 55 minutes starting at 10am on saturday. second time we waiting over 1 hour and 15 minutes for a party of 6...we did arrive at 9am on saturday. food is great and setting is good but the place is defiantly designed for hippster couples with no kids. i think that they only have 2 or 3 tables that can seat 4 people and you have to wait forever for one of those rare pieces of real estate to open up next to an also open "two topper." again great food for a date with one other person.
