it's a famous eaterie with an overwhelming choice of dishes. we come in a group to see each other over a meal. get a dish each and share. that works here but as a couplesrestaurantit's not a destination for surroundings decor or food. as a bigger group of five to eight it's fine.

quan thanh was always packed that one time i gave up waiting on thisrestaurantand ate in trang.

there are so many menus to choose from and i kinda got confused the first time i came here since they provide chinese food as well. tried the sliced rare beef noodle soup. it was the classic beef pho flavour with savoury broth and generous portion of both noodles and beef slices. the price was also fairly decent and made me want to try other menus!

busyrestauranteven on a sunday evening! the food are quite nice & i really like the flavour of the viet noodle soup n the rice paper roll with marinated beef n the viet stir fried prawn with tofu & spring onion. the service is quite bad, we understand is a busy restaurant, so we’ve asked for the food menu once we’ve got our seat but being waited for 15 mins, tried to get the waiter’s attention but nobody saw us or came to check on us. that was unpleasant

went here for the first time today and unfortunately we won’t be returning.
the food was below average and i couldn’t really eat anything because of this.
we were also shocked when we got the bill, expensive for what it was.

on a side note the homemade lemon iced tea was nice and so were the vegetable curry puffs.
a lot of options on the menu too.

therestaurantwas busy and other people seem to like it because it has good reviews.
it’s just not for me.

love this place for its cheap, tasty food. they have two restaurants (vietnamese and chinese/malaysian) separated by a bottle-o. sit in eitherrestaurantand you can order from any menu and they'll bring it from the corresponding kitchen. haven't been disappointed by these guys except in service from the vietnamese side. that needs some improvement, especially in attitude from some of the young men. and when you order meals for sharing and get rice separately, they sometimes don't bring your steamed rice until the end despite asking for it to be brought out. so you sit there watching your meal go cold whilst you wait for the rice.
you can also book a table and if you plan on going on a friday or saturday night i recommend this. otherwise good luck with getting one and with parking.

quan thanh is basically the tastier version of trang down the road, popular enough to have two entirely separate restaurants focusing on different cuisines right next to each other.

we usually tend to go more often for vietnamese dishes, their food is always very flavourful and in very good portions for the price. i think similar to trang it's always full because it's never not worth it, it's a way to have a good dinner or lunch out without breaking the bank.

our favourite dish is definitely their braised beef noodle soup, it's very hearty so be warned that it's not really a lot like pho; the broth is fatty and rich, the meat is always incredibly tender and so are the vegetables. be very careful, it will stain your clothes!

service is decent, they almost always have someone at the door to ask if you'd rather have dine in or takeaway, the staff is friendly enough, it's understandable that they're usually in a rush with the amount of people they have to serve. the decor isn't that fantastic either, you're definitely going for the food.

overall, if you just want to have a decent dinner in a very livelyrestaurantwithout paying too much, then this place is quite good.

i frequent this establishment often with my chinese, cambodian and korean friends who can be snobby with asian foods. they love it! you can't go past the pho or hainanese chicken. i'd also recommend the fish fillets with ginger and shallots and young coconut water as the drink. the food is cheap but flavourful and quality. it's good to order several dishes and share amongst your group. love that you can sit on either side of therestaurantand order from either menu (the chinese/malaysian kitchen is separate to the vietnamese kitchen and a liquor shop is in between both). another bonus: byo alcohol. you can make reservations which is handy if you are planning on going on a busy night. they also do takeaway.

a large group of us dined here and the staff were pretty attentive and patient. it was very noisy at the back of therestaurantbecause the sound was bouncing everywhere. for large group bookings, you just spend minimum $15pp (can include corkage). corkage is only $2 and includes beer and wine. i ordered a malaysian beef curry w roti which was yummy. i reckon if i order an appetizer and extra rice with it, it would be enough for two people. my husband ordered the vegetarian tofu and spring roll vermicelli salad which is massive and only got through half of it. the prices are average, not cheap, but big portions.

i went here for dinner last night with the family and noticed that they've expanded! therestaurantis larger and according to the guy that served us, they've got a new cooker or something so the pork and chicken taste better or something... also with the expansion of the restaurant, the prices have gone up however service was noticeably better, the staff were really attentive...maybe wednesdays are a good day or it's the new quan thanh!?anyway, i ordered my usual... vermicelli salad with shredded pork -i'm addicted to this so i probably won't be changing my order here for awhile! it was delicious! i didn't even use any of the sauce that was provided until i'd finished all the meat...my partner ate the grilled chicken and rice which he smashed, his only critique is that he wished there was more protein and less carbs (typical). and we got some steamed dimmies for our girls -no complaints there!
the food here is consistent, the prices are average -i think my salad was about $16something...maybe slightly higher than ur avg viet restaurant? enough highchairs so we've never missed out...
dodgy dunny with no change table =p hopefully that's next on the reno list!

this is an unusualrestaurantbeing that on one side of a bottle shop there is quan thanh which serves chinese and malaysian, and on the other side it serves vietnemese as quan thanh !. we choose the viet side and sat at a outside table. we had for entree wontons and some shredded beef paper rolls, both very tasty. for main we both decided on king prawn clay pot , unfortunately what came out was very disappointing and unusual. the dish was filled with tofu and the sauce tasted bland and made no justice to the prawns. i have had many clay pot in vietnam and here, and this was the worst sorry to say. i would like to think the rest of the dishes they served are far better as many people were eating there. we will go back and give some other a try though.

thisrestaurantreminds me of my days wandering ho chi minh. yeah i'm well travelled, what of it. the food was excellent. we ordered noodle dishes and a stir fry to share and my partner and i were extremely satisfied with the quality of the food. my only complaint of therestaurantstaff is that they did not evict some man sitting near us named matt. he was a loud mouth and wouldn't shut up about his singapore noodle, beef strips and non existent sex life. all in all a great experience apart from that overly repulsive man sitting near us.

met my friend thomas here for a night of good food and good company. needless to say only the food was good. ordered the singapore noodles, and the crispy beep strips and rice. both were delight, mouth watering and scrumptious. slightly dubious about therestaurantsegregation into the chinese and vietnamese/malaysian ends and didn't appreciate the racial tension. overall still a fun night and a great experience. p.s. i sided with the vietnamese.

in need of comfort food on a cold and rainy night, we dropped by hardgrave road in west end for dinner at quan thanh. hardgrave road is best known to locals and foodies alike as being home to a handful of inner city brisbane’s best vietnamese restaurants. therestaurantis split into two dining areas covering vietnamese, chinese and malaysian cuisine and is separated conveniently by a bottle shop for your byo needs.
