had beef stew noodle soup and the grilled beef paper rolls - wow! howgoodthe food is - we felt too disrespectful to take away the leftovers! so we literally stuffed the last drop of the soup! - soooooo full!!!!! 🤣👍😋

love the place as well - it has a nostalgic vietnamese ambience lighting - everything feels softer and slower here - interesting feeling 🤔😊

obsessed. i eat here at least once a week and have done for years. i know that sounds dull but its so insanelygoodthat i can't stop coming back. the staff are wonderful and the expansion they did several months ago has made it even better. personally, i can't fathom any of these bad reviews.

the first thing you'll notice about qt is the tacky decor. second thing will be the horrid service. here's the thing though. if you want a western meal with great service, go to hogs breath. if you want an authentic low budget asian experience with amazing food - hit up qts. if you normally stick with whats safe and find yourself perusing the chinese side of the menu, flip it, just flip it. seriously one whiff of eu de putrid bin drifting in from outside and one glace at the floors that have only vague memories of what a mop looks like and you come to realise there's nothing safe about this place anyways. so flip to the viet side of the menu cause that's really what these guys do well. the beef pho tai and bun bo xao are wins everytime. best way to get on thegoodside of the wait staff is to bear in mind that they're overworked, underpaid and kinda dislike you just for being alive. make eye contact to remind them that both of you are human, then be friendly and respectful but quick with your order, also they're nicer to regulars. don't take the service personally. understand it's just their way. it's not fine dining, you're definitly not paying for fine dining, so roll with it. you're on thier turf and this is how service is done. make sure you book on busy nights and don't give them a hard time if your table isn't ready, just go next door and buy some wine till they can seat you. don't try to change the menu, it's not a battle worth fighting. don't be arrogant or demanding. none of this is foolproof though, you may still be treated like an aggressive cancer cell. like i said, roll with it. one sip of that tasty, tasty pho and you'll realise you're there for the food (which is usually great), not the service (which usually is not).

went here for an after work get together. they struggled to cater for 12 people, but we got cosy with four of the outdoor square tables.

food was prettygoodand service was pleasant enough. combination chow mein is what i ordered, and it was above average. they actually have a “chinese and malaysian menu” along with a “vietnamese menu”

prices a bit high but reflective of proximity to cbd i guess. they have a one bill per table rule that they strictly enforce - which is something to work around. although a big pro is this place is byo with no corkage- with a bottle store next door - hence the rowdy crowds sometimes. up to you if that’s a pro or con.

pretty pretty good. laksa flavours weren't balanced, needed more salt & a little something else. salt and pepper squid was spectacularlygoodthough, and friends enjoyed salt and pepper tofu too. staff were friendly and accommodating. not blown away but not underwhelmed either.

went here for the first time today and unfortunately we won’t be returning.
the food was below average and i couldn’t really eat anything because of this.
we were also shocked when we got the bill, expensive for what it was.

on a side note the homemade lemon iced tea was nice and so were the vegetable curry puffs.
a lot of options on the menu too.

the restaurant was busy and other people seem to like it because it hasgoodreviews.
it’s just not for me.

love this place for its cheap, tasty food. they have two restaurants (vietnamese and chinese/malaysian) separated by a bottle-o. sit in either restaurant and you can order from any menu and they'll bring it from the corresponding kitchen. haven't been disappointed by these guys except in service from the vietnamese side. that needs some improvement, especially in attitude from some of the young men. and when you order meals for sharing and get rice separately, they sometimes don't bring your steamed rice until the end despite asking for it to be brought out. so you sit there watching your meal go cold whilst you wait for the rice.
you can also book a table and if you plan on going on a friday or saturday night i recommend this. otherwisegoodluck with getting one and with parking.

thegoodservice started with a phone call confirming my booking and explaining there is a minimum spend of $15 per adult, $2 corkage, and one bill per table. we were a group of 12 and seated out the back of the vietnamese section with the only negative being it was quite noisy. but that was really a small price to pay for amazing food at affordable prices. the food was brought out very quickly and all plates were generous servings. i would definitely return.

quan thanh is basically the tastier version of trang down the road, popular enough to have two entirely separate restaurants focusing on different cuisines right next to each other.

we usually tend to go more often for vietnamese dishes, their food is always very flavourful and in verygoodportions for the price. i think similar to trang it's always full because it's never not worth it, it's a way to have agooddinner or lunch out without breaking the bank.

our favourite dish is definitely their braised beef noodle soup, it's very hearty so be warned that it's not really a lot like pho; the broth is fatty and rich, the meat is always incredibly tender and so are the vegetables. be very careful, it will stain your clothes!

service is decent, they almost always have someone at the door to ask if you'd rather have dine in or takeaway, the staff is friendly enough, it's understandable that they're usually in a rush with the amount of people they have to serve. the decor isn't that fantastic either, you're definitely going for the food.

overall, if you just want to have a decent dinner in a very lively restaurant without paying too much, then this place is quite good.

i frequent this establishment often with my chinese, cambodian and korean friends who can be snobby with asian foods. they love it! you can't go past the pho or hainanese chicken. i'd also recommend the fish fillets with ginger and shallots and young coconut water as the drink. the food is cheap but flavourful and quality. it'sgoodto order several dishes and share amongst your group. love that you can sit on either side of the restaurant and order from either menu (the chinese/malaysian kitchen is separate to the vietnamese kitchen and a liquor shop is in between both). another bonus: byo alcohol. you can make reservations which is handy if you are planning on going on a busy night. they also do takeaway.

despite wonderful service, my quan thanh dining experience can only be described as average.

fair or not, i came to quan thanh in search of brisbane's best curry puff. i have not read anything where they themselves claim they have great curry puffs, but several zomato reviewers highly recommended them and i recall reading one review entitled, "i dream of these curry puffs".

naturally, i began with the curry puffs (the choices were beef or vegetable, so i chose beef). the outside was visually appealing and hadgoodflavor and texture, but the filling was very disappointing. the flavor was bland and the texture was akin to eating a mouthful of grated coconut, which i suspect was likely grated cabbage. the flavor and texture didn't work for me and i only ate two of the four puffs. the curry puff rated a 2.5-3.

next i sampled the malaysian chicken satay. the chicken was a bit dry and the flavor was bland. the sauce helped with the dryness, but the flavor of the two combined wasn't great. i ate one of the satay and had the other packed up with the curry puffs to take home. the malaysian chicken satay rated a 2.

at this point i was zero for two at quan thanh and decided to pull the plug on my meal. the service was wonderful (4), but the food was just not very good.

based on the recommendations, i feel like i need to return at some point to try some mains and give them a shot at redemption. it just wasn't meant to be on this evening.

the search for a great curry puff continues...

i went here for dinner last night with the family and noticed that they've expanded! the restaurant is larger and according to the guy that served us, they've got a new cooker or something so the pork and chicken taste better or something... also with the expansion of the restaurant, the prices have gone up however service was noticeably better, the staff were really attentive...maybe wednesdays are agoodday or it's the new quan thanh!?anyway, i ordered my usual... vermicelli salad with shredded pork -i'm addicted to this so i probably won't be changing my order here for awhile! it was delicious! i didn't even use any of the sauce that was provided until i'd finished all the meat...my partner ate the grilled chicken and rice which he smashed, his only critique is that he wished there was more protein and less carbs (typical). and we got some steamed dimmies for our girls -no complaints there!
the food here is consistent, the prices are average -i think my salad was about $16something...maybe slightly higher than ur avg viet restaurant? enough highchairs so we've never missed out...
dodgy dunny with no change table =p hopefully that's next on the reno list!

i have eaten better pho here than some of the bowls i was dished up in vietnam, this is definitely my go to forgoodvietnamese in brisbane. the service isn't always great, but the food is, and the cheap prices make it a plus. whenever i crave pho, this is where i go. i would recommend the sliced rare beef noodle soup, spicy beef and pork noodle soup and the rice vermicelli with fried tofu.
