pomeroy's old brewery inn & victoria's kitchen

have been to thispubon many occasions,the place has a good vibe.
the food has been consistently good and the staff very professional. a good range of drinks can be had and the toilets etc are all very clean.

sensational english style pub excellent beer selection - really reminded us of being back in the uk. loved the unique selection of brews. comfy and cosy spot, super busy so grab a seat if you spot one! we had some chips with gravy and the gravy was the best we've ever tasted - ah-mazing! friendly patrons and some toys for kids which was great. some staff were a bit surly but didn't put us off. top spot!

"it's only a pub", i thought, as i walked out of the cbd and in the front door of pomeroy's, "how good can the food possibly be?" well, it was damn good. i findpubmeals are usually "good" at best, and i was prepared for a reasonable meal that didn't set the world on fire. but my aged rib eye with duck fat chips, rainbow chard and cafe de paris butter was superb. the rib eye was cooked as ordered (medium) and was undoubtedly the best steak i had during my trip to nz. the duck fat chips were wonderfully crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, while the jus and butter finished off the meal superbly. the chard was somewhat more bitter than i would have liked, but it's only a small gripe. the service was also spot on for this type of establishment. i'm not a huge fan of the britishpubtheme and i only tried one dish but, based on the quality of that dish, i would certainly eat at pomeroy's again.

food is not bad, service is good. would comeback again. thispubreminds me of apubin england. price is average, for those that like englishpubthemes then this place is for you.

i just loved dinner at pomeroy's... so much so that has to score a 5 out of 5 (which is not something i do often)!

walking in, i thought it was going to be just anotherpub- a good british theme, but still just another pub. moving through to the restaurant though, the atmosphere changes. it's still "old-school" british, but more quiet and "homey" comfortable.

the service was excellent throughout the evening and the food itself (i had the lamb) was cooked to perfection, though even tastier than it looked.

and, not only is there a great selection of local craft beers. but the wine list was surprisingly diverse, with a good selection of both nz and foreign choices - both by the bottle and by the glass.

the location is slightly out of the cbd, but definitely worth the effort it may take to visit!

pomeroy's has been bookmarked, and i will be back...

came by on a tuesday to meet some friends and was surprised at how full it was. there were quite a few beers on offer and they give you help on selection if you want it. we found a table and then ordered some food. we did have to go up to order food but it does look like they take orders if you sit in the restaurant area.

i went with the half duck with asian slaw and it was nice. duck was nice and crispy and the slaw had a sesame and peanutty flavour. really nice meal and decent portion. prices are on the higher side ofpubfare but it was also nicer than some.

with nice food and beer i now see why it was busy.

had a pint at pomeroy's on sunday afternoon. felt like a bit of an old manpubwith alternative live music of a flute, bongos and guitar. great selection of beers, look out for the media brew which was great. nz$20 for a glass of wine and a beer. usual wooden interior.

a really great historicpubwhere cricket fans crowd the tables and sip craft beers. there's a great selection of beers to choose from as well as a full bar if you're in the mood. four avenues brewing co is located behind the brewery and three of their beers are always featured in house, but there are 15 other regulars on tap for you to try. there truly is a beer for everyone here. take a peek at their menu as they have a wide variety of stand out barfood from spiced free-range chicken wings and chicken and pork terrine to jalapeno cheesedip and homemade pork crackling. there's also soup, squid and vegetarian nachos. pomeroy's often has events going on, so check out their website to make sure you don't miss out on beer tasting fun! we visited during the cricket world cup and sat amongst crazy fans at their family seating tall top tables. there were also booth options and table options, but the space is limited. there is a small pool table near the wall where you can entertain yourself if you don't understand the rules to cricket.

despite being one of the best drinking establishments in chch, they also pride themselves on their commitment to quality, healthy and fresh menus at their victoria restaurant. i recommend making a booking for this restaurant at least 48 hours in advance. there is a full lunch and dinner menu with anything from steak and venison to beer-battered fish and herb+gruyere gnocchi.

pomeroy's still is an inn with a b&b next door. visiting or just don't want to drive home? be sure to make a booking in advance to stay in their adorable cottage. this is an iconic spot in chch for everything from atmosphere to craft beers and delicious meals. stop in and check out pomeroy's today!

anniversary night -

great meal selection but for us - vegetarians a bit lacking in offerings. this is an issue for most restaurants around the world.
we had potato and leek soup - which was delicious - i didn't ask what the base stock was so it could have been chicken stock.

we both settled for the goats cheese tart with pear and walnut salad. the tart was warm and very rich. it was delicious. there were plenty of walnuts and pear on the salad.
complimented with a side of fries. filling meal as we had no room for dessert.

when looking for a good oldpubfeed and passing head right in. the food was what you would expect for apubbut still quite flavorsome and at a good price. don't worry about small portions their huge and fill you right up. but still not a place you'd go half way across town for unless you want the added bonus of excellent craft beers.

good classic food.

one of my favorite watering holes and a great place to meet friends. steve is an excellent host, the beers they serve are always delicious and the bar snacks are delicious - i recommend the cheese fondue. the restaurant is just what you want in apuband the locals are friendly.

great beer selection, tastypubfood, and fun patrons. what isn't to like about this place? the jukebox could do with some better local selections (this is chch -- no tall dwarfs, really?), but otherwise this place is great!

if you like beer, and i mean the real stuff not the slightly alcoholic brown water they serve in most pubs in nz, then pom's is thepubfor you.
an excellent selection of quality brews, with monthly guest beers, good wholesome food, and the staff are always friendly and cheerful. it is without a doubt the best hostelry in new zealand.
