as mentioned in my review of the movie frances ha , lunch prior to the screening was at pizzeriastella(420 s 2nd st, philadelphia, pa 19106) . also as previously mentioned, slowly but surely, i aim to get around to all the stephen starr restaurants in the city, but he populates them so fast, i doubt i'll ever catch up; my palate and stomach are willing, but my pocketbook still lags behind. actually, pizzeriastellais quite affordable for those employed - lol!  pies range from $11 - $19 and seem to be the exact right size for a party of two. just don't ask for meat to be added to a vegetarian pizza, because they're gonna charge you $5 for one sliced meatball. we ordered the margherita san marzano tomato, basil, buffalo mozzarella . $15 (added the meatball $20).  i knowstellawill be offended by this, but to me their pizza tastes like the italian restaurant chain bertucci's, only perhaps not quite as good.  bertucci's has the same brick oven, flat style, but just a touch bready-ier

pizzeriastellais another stephen starr restaurant and like most starr establishments it does not disappoint. the restaurant is large and spacious and located in one of my favorite areas of town. directly behind the hostess stand lies the open concept pizza station where the chefs are busy rolling the dough, adding the toppings and placing in the brick oven pizza all in front of a crowd of hungry diners. if you enjoy watching your food be made then ask for a seat facing the kitchen... you may learn a thing or two about making pizza from scratch. we ordered three pizzas to share amongst a group of four. the tartufo- a black truffle, egg and fontina pizza; the spinach- oven-roasted tomatoes, pine nuts, mozzarella and baby spinach; and the sausage- wood-roasted sausage, hot pesto, mozzarella and tomato sauce (see menu) . the sausage pizza and the tartufo were my two favorites of the night. ground pieces of sausage sprinkled generously over a perfectly baked dough with fresh mozzarella, t

not worth the price.. we will not be returning to pizzeriastellagiven the $14 price tag for a margherita pizza. we read that starr scoured the globe to copy the best pizzas. he forgot that great pizza is sold to the masses in italy and elsewhere because not only is it delicious but it is affordable. he selling dot-com priced pizzas in the worst economy ever!

love it!. my friend and i were on a weekend getaway in philly and wanted a good meal to wrap up our trip. pizzeriastellawas just that place. i ordered the special for the day, flowering squash pizza, and was pleasantly surprised. in fact, it was probably the best pizza i've ever eaten. and the spaghetti, recently added to their menu, was also among the best i've had. the food was awesome, the house white wine was flavorful and the service (our waitress abby) was outstanding. if you are in society hill, make sure to stop by.

i went into pizzariastellawith one thing on my mind. the tartufo pizza. black truffle, fontina, egg, parmesan on a crispy food fired crust. when it arrived, the egg, raw but intact, sat atop the pizza and the waitress deftly broke the yoke, swirling it

no taste. this past tuesday i had lunch atstellaand thought the atmosphere of the place was great. from the minute i walked in i couldn't wait to taste the pizza, but boy was i not impressed once i did. besides the smokey flavor of the crust, which i liked, the rest of the pizza had no real taste. i also thought it was way over priced for such a small portion. i pizza, a soda and a lemonade, plus tip cost me $30.00. the worst part about it was i left still hungry.
