very nice place!!! we didn’t eat there, we order to pick up. weorderedthe margherita pizza, and it was super delicious. the only thing is that they make only one size for all their pizzas, 12” and is quite small.

as mentioned in my review of the movie frances ha , lunch prior to the screening was at pizzeria stella (420 s 2nd st, philadelphia, pa 19106) . also as previously mentioned, slowly but surely, i aim to get around to all the stephen starr restaurants in the city, but he populates them so fast, i doubt i'll ever catch up; my palate and stomach are willing, but my pocketbook still lags behind. actually, pizzeria stella is quite affordable for those employed - lol!  pies range from $11 - $19 and seem to be the exact right size for a party of two. just don't ask for meat to be added to a vegetarian pizza, because they're gonna charge you $5 for one sliced meatball. weorderedthe margherita san marzano tomato, basil, buffalo mozzarella . $15 (added the meatball $20).  i know stella will be offended by this, but to me their pizza tastes like the italian restaurant chain bertucci's, only perhaps not quite as good.  bertucci's has the same brick oven, flat style, but just a touch bready-ier

pizzeria stella is another stephen starr restaurant and like most starr establishments it does not disappoint. the restaurant is large and spacious and located in one of my favorite areas of town. directly behind the hostess stand lies the open concept pizza station where the chefs are busy rolling the dough, adding the toppings and placing in the brick oven pizza all in front of a crowd of hungry diners. if you enjoy watching your food be made then ask for a seat facing the kitchen... you may learn a thing or two about making pizza from scratch. weorderedthree pizzas to share amongst a group of four. the tartufo- a black truffle, egg and fontina pizza; the spinach- oven-roasted tomatoes, pine nuts, mozzarella and baby spinach; and the sausage- wood-roasted sausage, hot pesto, mozzarella and tomato sauce (see menu) . the sausage pizza and the tartufo were my two favorites of the night. ground pieces of sausage sprinkled generously over a perfectly baked dough with fresh mozzarella, t

well...it is the city..... my friend and i stopped there a few weeks ago close to closing time on a saturday night. we chose to eat outside, which was nice. the service was good....our waiter was very friendly and helpful. the food, however was just ok. the pizza crust was a bit burned.....i realize it's a wood fire thing, but that burned taste was unpleasant. the flavor of the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni was very good....too bad i kept tasting the burned crust. we alsoorderedthe meatball appetizer -- that i highly recommend. and, of course, since it's trendy and in the city, the prices were high....but that's just the way it is.

love it!. my friend and i were on a weekend getaway in philly and wanted a good meal to wrap up our trip. pizzeria stella was just that place. iorderedthe special for the day, flowering squash pizza, and was pleasantly surprised. in fact, it was probably the best pizza i've ever eaten. and the spaghetti, recently added to their menu, was also among the best i've had. the food was awesome, the house white wine was flavorful and the service (our waitress abby) was outstanding. if you are in society hill, make sure to stop by.

disappointed - but not with the food. we recently took another couple here for dinner. i don't know what i was expecting, but i was disappointed. many of my friends who have eaten here, couldn't say enough good things about pizzeria stella. they probably didn't have to wait for a table.

we were told that there was a 30 minute wait for a table. when we asked if we could order a drink and wait, we were directed to two other establishments in the area to wait and have a drink. they took our cell phone number and said they would call us, when our table was ready. we went across the street, ordereda drink, received a call that our table was ready, after only having a few sips of our drinks.

mr. starr is losing a lot of money , and maybe some customers, by not having a designated area for guests to wait and have the option of ordering a drink, or just have a seat, while waiting for a table.

we all enjoyed our choice of pizzas, the service was excellent, but i found nothing exceptional about the atmosphere.
