pizzeria stella

a fabulous restaurant. my family lovedpizzeriastella. best spaghetti we've tasted outside italy. the tartufo (truffles) pizza was sublime, as was the pistachio pizza. plus the eggplant calzone. try the olive oil gelato, it's great. very good service, a beautifulpizzeria- cheers!

  as mentioned in my review of the movie frances ha , lunch prior to the screening was atpizzeriastella (420 s 2nd st, philadelphia, pa 19106) . also as previously mentioned, slowly but surely, i aim to get around to all the stephen starr restaurants in the city, but he populates them so fast, i doubt i'll ever catch up; my palate and stomach are willing, but my pocketbook still lags behind. actually,pizzeriastella is quite affordable for those employed - lol!  pies range from $11 - $19 and seem to be the exact right size for a party of two. just don't ask for meat to be added to a vegetarian pizza, because they're gonna charge you $5 for one sliced meatball. we ordered the margherita san marzano tomato, basil, buffalo mozzarella . $15 (added the meatball $20).  i know stella will be offended by this, but to me their pizza tastes like the italian restaurant chain bertucci's, only perhaps not quite as good.  bertucci's has the same brick oven, flat style, but just a touch bready-ier

not worth the price.. we will not be returning topizzeriastella given the $14 price tag for a margherita pizza. we read that starr scoured the globe to copy the best pizzas. he forgot that great pizza is sold to the masses in italy and elsewhere because not only is it delicious but it is affordable. he selling dot-com priced pizzas in the worst economy ever!

i have a good friend in philly that said that he wanted me to validate one of his favorite pizza places that's around the corner from where he lives. so this week we paid a visit to philadelphia celebrity chef steven starspizzeriastella.

love it!. my friend and i were on a weekend getaway in philly and wanted a good meal to wrap up our trip.pizzeriastella was just that place. i ordered the special for the day, flowering squash pizza, and was pleasantly surprised. in fact, it was probably the best pizza i've ever eaten. and the spaghetti, recently added to their menu, was also among the best i've had. the food was awesome, the house white wine was flavorful and the service (our waitress abby) was outstanding. if you are in society hill, make sure to stop by.

disappointed - but not with the food. we recently took another couple here for dinner. i don't know what i was expecting, but i was disappointed. many of my friends who have eaten here, couldn't say enough good things aboutpizzeriastella. they probably didn't have to wait for a table.

we were told that there was a 30 minute wait for a table. when we asked if we could order a drink and wait, we were directed to two other establishments in the area to wait and have a drink. they took our cell phone number and said they would call us, when our table was ready. we went across the street, ordered a drink, received a call that our table was ready, after only having a few sips of our drinks.

mr. starr is losing a lot of money , and maybe some customers, by not having a designated area for guests to wait and have the option of ordering a drink, or just have a seat, while waiting for a table.

we all enjoyed our choice of pizzas, the service was excellent, but i found nothing exceptional about the atmosphere.
