try the olives too!. i'm a big fan of stella! expect a reasonable wait during prime times (upwards of an hour.. and they don't take reservations). the food is outstanding in every way possible. leave all of your expectations of what a pizza shop should offer because you wont find old standards here. (pistachio or san danielle are my favorites.. yeah, pistachio!). and as the title says, try the marinated olives appetizer, its amazing!

i will dream of their pizza

it is a nice and cosy restaurant, where you are not packed. there are plenty of light in the restaurant and the unusual decoration gives a great atmosphere.

everything is marvelous: pizza with light and elastic dough, fresh ingredients, choice of white pizza, great salad and pasta.

service was perfect

very nice place!!! we didn’t eat there, we order to pick up. we ordered the margherita pizza, and it was super delicious. the only thing is that they make only one size for all their pizzas, 12” and is quite small.

a fabulous restaurant. my family loved pizzeria stella. best spaghetti we've tasted outside italy. the tartufo (truffles) pizza was sublime, as was the pistachio pizza. plus the eggplant calzone. try the olive oil gelato, it's great. very good service, a beautiful pizzeria - cheers!

as mentioned in my review of the movie frances ha , lunch prior to the screening was at pizzeria stella (420 s 2nd st, philadelphia, pa 19106) . also as previously mentioned, slowly but surely, i aim to get around to all the stephen starr restaurants in the city, but he populates them so fast, i doubt i'll ever catch up; my palate and stomach are willing, but my pocketbook still lags behind. actually, pizzeria stella is quite affordable for those employed - lol!  pies range from $11 - $19 and seem to be the exact right size for a party of two. just don't ask for meat to be added to a vegetarian pizza, because they're gonna charge you $5 for one sliced meatball. we ordered the margherita san marzano tomato, basil, buffalo mozzarella . $15 (added the meatball $20).  i know stella will be offended by this, but to me their pizza tastes like the italian restaurant chain bertucci's, only perhaps not quite as good.  bertucci's has the same brick oven, flat style, but just a touch bready-ier

pizzeria stella is another stephen starr restaurant and like most starr establishments it does not disappoint. the restaurant is large and spacious and located in one of my favorite areas of town. directly behind the hostess stand lies the open concept pizza station where the chefs are busy rolling the dough, adding the toppings and placing in the brick oven pizza all in front of a crowd of hungry diners. if you enjoy watching your food be made then ask for a seat facing the kitchen... you may learn a thing or two about making pizza from scratch. we ordered three pizzas to share amongst a group of four. the tartufo- a black truffle, egg and fontina pizza; the spinach- oven-roasted tomatoes, pine nuts, mozzarella and baby spinach; and the sausage- wood-roasted sausage, hot pesto, mozzarella and tomato sauce (see menu) . the sausage pizza and the tartufo were my two favorites of the night. ground pieces of sausage sprinkled generously over a perfectly baked dough with fresh mozzarella, t

not worth the price.. we will not be returning to pizzeria stella given the $14 price tag for a margherita pizza. we read that starr scoured the globe to copy the best pizzas. he forgot that great pizza is sold to the masses in italy and elsewhere because not only is it delicious but it is affordable. he selling dot-com priced pizzas in the worst economy ever!

well...it is the city..... my friend and i stopped there a few weeks ago close to closing time on a saturday night. we chose to eat outside, which was nice. the service was good....our waiter was very friendly and helpful. the food, however was just ok. the pizza crust was a bit burned.....i realize it's a wood fire thing, but that burned taste was unpleasant. the flavor of the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni was very good....too bad i kept tasting the burned crust. we also ordered the meatball appetizer -- that i highly recommend. and, of course, since it's trendy and in the city, the prices were high....but that's just the way it is.

if you’re dying to eat at a starr restaurant, you’d be better off going to the continental.

great food, great beer, great scene!. just moved in the neighborhood and at the end of a long day of moving we found ourselves here after a few pints at the irish pub across the street; tired, famished, and in need of a cold beer or three.

this place did the trick!

from the standard margharita pizza to the weird and wonderful tartufo and all of the beers in between this place will staisfy a hungry belly and discerning palate. we loved it and they were very cool to let our dog get in on the fun, sitting outdoors of course...and of course he approved of the pepperoni.

fancy pizza. so me and my bf were out wandering around the city. we ran in to a local lady and as we walked along together got to talking about food. i said that i had not had good pizza while in philly yet so she said that we had to go to stella's. i got the number 5 pizza (the one with pepperoni), by bf (who hates pizza) got the octipus salad and the spaghetti. i loved my pizza but the bf hated his spaghetti and salad. he said the octipus was cooked well but the salad was just boring.

a starr creation, stella is pricy-tasty-hip wood fired pizza joint in the south street area. the pistachio pie is amazing.
