good pizza. i'm no expert on chicago deep dish, so i can't say if this place offers authentic chicago pies or whether thecrusthas the right thickness or whatever. i can, however, say that i enjoyed the pizza we got at pi. thecrustwas crisp and light, sauce was heavy, ingredients tasted fresh. all in all, a good pizza.
the place is split down the middle with a bar area on one side. atmosphere is nice, trendy, though i didn't find it pretentious. it was nearly full on this thursday night, but we didn't have to wait for a table.
service was fine. prices are a little more than at most pizza places.

by far the best gluten free pizzacrusti have come by so far. they are very accommodating to dietary needs and my only issue is the price. they do add an extra charge on for the gfcrustbut for a taste like that, i'll pay it.

worth the wait. with so many choices in st. louis i'm not prone to wait to try the latest hyped place. but last night a friend and i decided to do just that.

we were told a half hour wait which was more like an hour. we reviewed the menu while waiting so we'd be ready to order once seated. we wanted to sit outside but the first open table was inside, nice but loud. smoke-free!

we were both pretty hungry at this point so we each ordered a salad. i had the bada bing. nice mix of flavors, each not lost among the others.

for the pizza we went with a large deep dish berkeley which includes sliced zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, olives, & onion. the sauce was a chunky sweet tomato sauce. thecrustwas not like most deep dish (chewy bread). it was crunchy and frankly near perfection.

once we ordered our salads came quickly and the pizza not long after we had finished the salads. so the wait time was up front to get seated.

a wonderful experience that i plan to repeat as often as possible!

chicago-style deep dish in st. louis, plus cocktails and small plates. try the hanley pizza! date posted: jul 29, 2013 category: pizza address: 6144 delmar blvd, st louis, mo 63112 think of st. louis style pizza and imo’s immediately comes to mind.  the cracker-crust provolone treat is not favored by everyone, but thankfully it is not the only option around.  pi pizzeria is a local chain with locations in downtown, kirkwood, and chesterfield, but today christine and i went to the location in the loop on delmar. they have many fine pizzas you can order (my favorite being the hanley, which has bbq chicken on it) but you have the option of making your own recipe.  we ordered a vegetarian style with pesto, tomatoes, garlic, and ricotta cheese.  it was very good. one of the first things you will notice about the pizza at pi is the cornmeal crust.  not everyone will dig this, but it does have a nice crunch and can really compliment the flavor of the toppings. there are many small plates you can get, including bread with butter and roasted garlic.  this is pretty good, though i wish we got more roasted garlic with it. pi is mostly known for its wide variety of beers on tap, but christine and i are upscale hipsters that prefer booze over brews. their old fashioned was decent but the sangria was very tasty, albeit a little overly sweet.  still, we finished both our drinks with no complaints.   pros : good pizza, many options plus you can make your own. decent sides and small plates. the hummus is good. cons : not the best cocktails, though beer is top notch. cornmealcrustmay not appeal to all. charlie’s favorites :  the hanley, chicken wings christine’s favorites : custom pizza, hummus, sangria share the love of good food...

not worth it. i have been to pi several times. i love their thincrustbut it is expensive. our family and another went for dinner and order 3 pizzas, the hill, the delmar and a pepperoni pizza, all large. had four drinks and three sodas, our bill was $120. no appetizers or desert. that may have been our last visit.

i really tried to like this place, but it really is pretty average. i've had both the thin and deep dish. the thincrustis good and the toppings all sound like they'd be really good, but they've just been average.

great!. the deep dish pizza at pi was delicious. thecrustwas different in that it tasted more like a piecrustthen a pastry (as i usually expect deep dish pizzacrustto taste). this was not a disservice by any means and actually brought a unique spin to the dish. i also liked that the pizza was not greasy by any means and while i left full, i did not feel obnoxiously full as i often am after a deep dish. i will definitely return for another slice of pi.

good thin crust, but still too loud. this was my 3rd visit to pi and this time we tried the thincrust"maplewood" pizza and it was very good. the service was fine also. but we were still annoyed by the incredible din generated in the dining room when the place gets full. bring your advil because you're bound to have a headache before you leave!

-----06 jul, 2011-----

fine dining?. i think this place is listed under "fine dining" here only because of the prices. this is a loud pizza joint, not fine dining by any definition of the word. my 2 cents :)

trendy but way too loud. have eaten here twice. the deep dish style pizza is ok, but not like the original in chicago. also, the dining area/decor is made up entirely of hard surfaces that reflect sound. with a room full of people it was so loud we could not even hear each other in conversation at our table. before the food arrived i had such a headache i just wanted to leave. the second time i insisted on eating out on the sidewalk, but still wasn't that impressed with the pizza.

a good place to get a pie before a show @ the pageant, or when staying @ the moonrise hotel!
i like it because i can have a pie with my choice of fresh handmadecrust- including deep dish style! - and pick the weird toppings i like, while those dining with me can get their own with their choice ofcrust& toppings - and we always end up sharing! the apps are also tasty, interesting & fun. the beer selection is particularly good - as well as the selection of jones' sodas in regular & sugar frei (great if someone in your party is diabetic or watching sugar intake!). the great thing is the servings allow you to get takeaway for during the show, and it can be carried into the pageant (this may change without notice, so check first or leave time to take to your room/car, so you don't end up trashing awesome food. in good weather, there's outside dining which has awesome people watching potential...

not your average pizza place. my wife and i are not pizza lovers - we first ate there begrudgingly with some friends. we were instantly hooked! the cornmealcruston the deep dish combines with their fresh sauce and topping ingredients to really make a meal that may look like pizza - but tastes like something far better.

we usually go at lunch time during the week and find the atmosphere to be relaxing and the servers to be friendly and helpful. we have been dozens of times now - and will be back dozens more!

deep what?. im not sure what kind of deep dish this pizza is,but it's not anything close to deep dish. thecrustis hard and there are so many tomatoes that you can't taste the minute toppings they put on the pizza.

very good crust. the pizza and salad were delicious. my only complaint is their small beer selection. thecrustis very different than thecrustused at fast food restaurants. it is more crusty and less doughy. it reminds me of italian pizza crust.

very little substance. i am a huge fan of pizza and had pi on my list for places to try. i will admit i'm a thincrustfan (this is st louis, right?) so that's what i ordered.

i had heard stories about all the research and about the owners finally finding/buying the perfect crust. i can't imagine why anyone would think that cornmeal is a good thing.

the ingredients were fresh though sparse. they sure weren't enough to save the pie.

i'll chalk this one up to experience but can't believe that this product commands a hugely premium price. pi is not even in my top 20 for local pizza.

yum. i love pi pizza. i keeping thinking about the delicious cornmealcrust(you can taste the cornmeal but it's not overwhelming) and sweet tomato topping. it's just so tasty. i can't wait to go back. ::drools::

i don't know what people are complaining about. go for the deep dish. that's their thing. maybe it's cool to dog on something that was lauded for a while, but i really enjoy it.

downside is the wait, which can be expected for the deep dish (i wait forever for deep dish in chicago too) but they're often so busy, it may take a while to get a table.

but they're always busy because their deep dish is tasty. duh.

just try it. (and if you don't eat your left overs, i will)
