petal met sugar is a charming and lovely cafeteria where flowers coincide with art. decorated with colourful flowers, the cafeteria is definitely the best place to bring your girlfriend or wife along for a date because the bright and sunny flowers will bring a smile to your face.

it was a weekend morning, so i get to try the trio tasting plate, which comprises an eclair, peach oolong and passion fruit yuzu. all of the cakes and desserts at petal are so lovely that i could not bear to eat them. the cakes have a pleasant tinge of flower scent which absolves any guilt you may have for taking desserts so early in the morning. the cold brew which accompanies the desserts enhances their already heavenly taste. i could not wait to return for their terrarium and apple/chamomile!!

i’ve recently visited a place that i’ve always wanted to try – petal met sugar in wolloomooloo. it’s a collaboration between a florist and a dessert chef. isn’t that the best combo anyone could ever think of?. let’s start with an overview flatlay of everything we had: ham & cheese croissant (for that savoury fix) / easter special dessert / terrarium / pancakes / flat white / matcha latte. we were lucky enough to try their easter special dessert –

‘easter egg carton for two’

there are 5 easter eggs made from callebaut white couverture chocolate, sort of like a ‘kinder surprise’. each of them contains different ingredients inside: matcha / popping candy crumble / mango lime ginger / salted caramel / gold dust.

i went on a cold, rainy and windy day so i really wanted to have some yummy dessert to cheer me up. when i arrived, i saw there were only 4 tables outside and that was it. basically no indoor seating. i'm not entirely sure if it's always like this but in some instagram photos, i swear there is indoor seating. so we sat outside in awful weather.

service was pretty bad to be honest. they really didn't look like they wanted to be there and they served us in a cold manner.

i ordered 3 desserts including the terrarium, oolong peach and the passionfruit yuzu. passionfruit yuzu was definitely the tastiest being sweet but tart at the same time and the citrus flavours were really refreshing.
i also ordered the watermelon tea which was good but you don't really get your money's worth because the cups are small and it gets diluted with a huge cube of ice. my friend's matcha iced tea was extremely watered down and she commented on the lack of matcha taste, looked like slightly green milk.
i'd go again to try out the high tea menu but other than that, won't be returning.

the cakes look just as beautiful as the flowers they sell. the shop & the space are lovely minimalist. however that also mean minimal seating of about 4 tables, which means expect to wait if you want to sit & eat-in. once you're lucky enough to get a table, expect people waiting to hover around you. all of these hassles are somehow worth it because the cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful. the apple n chamomile is a great layers of textures, the creamy mousse encase the confit apple, the madeleine on the bottom compliments nicely. sweetness was just right. the eclair was also lovely, the creme patisserie was smooth & indulgent with a coffee taste. the pink choc shards added a hint of rosewater. love to comeback and try more!

small cafe near the st mary's cathedral with an open kitchen, also selling pretty flowers other than cakes. cakes were too pretty to be eaten though.
the tase of the cakes were really delicious. was not too sweet. had to share the cakes because it was quite filling and was easier to try different types of the cakes.

it definitely deserves a 4.2. texture and presentation are all fantastic. and the sour and sweet combination for some deserts matches well.
as february is the smallest month, it offers mini size deserts this month, which is very cute.
love this place v much.

there's one week remaining before the stunning flower bomb dessert will no longer be available. orange blossom and mascarpone mousse, brown butter popping crumble and passionfruit jelly is enclosed within a fine, white chocolate dome, that is smashed to reveal a kaleidoscope of edible flowers.

the choice of cakes can be overwhelming and we managed to takeaway and sample a few of them before they were snapped up by the eager diners here. the cakes were beautifully presented and tasted as wonderful as they looked.

service is friendly and guy did a good job juggling between making the drinks, playing the cakes and taking order and payments for takeaway as well. he was affable and offered advice on what cakes to try.

in short: a whimsical mix of culinary craft and magic, amazing sweet treats and great coffee too.

“dynamic duos” come in many guises, batman & robin, bert & ernie, han & chewie, cookies & milk, but some partnerships are a little more abstract at first thought. petal met sugar, a magical mingling of a florist and patissier in sydney’s woolloomooloo, is redefining the creative potential of eclectic collaborations, with sweet outcomes for all!

i see a lot of potential in this place and could be a solid 4.5 if they tweak a few things.

for starters the menu is a little small and not a wide choice compared to flour and stone just up the road. they also don't offer any solid foods apart from desserts which for me is a big question mark. would you have lunch somewhere else and then drive here just for a few dessert items ??, see my point.

and don't get me started on the limited out door seating, as per above, it just makes it that much harder to come here even though their desserts are actually really good

i think with a few adjustments they'll be great, but that's down the line

great desserts and extremely friendly staff (who put up with us taking photos for half an hr). the cutlery and plates are super aesthetic and add to the whole dining experience which was simply superb :) their menu often changes so i'm keen to go back and try their new desserts but the ones we tried were really refreshing - i'd highly recommend trying their more fruity desserts as though the chocolate ones are nice, they can get a bit heavy (we ere sharing one chocolate rich one between the three of us and even then it got a bit too much) but the fruit ones are super tangy and light! will definitely be coming back and trying their new menu asap!i'd suggest going their earlier in the day as they do have limited seating

deliciously light and fresh. these desserts weren't overly sweet and the attention they placed on the details of each of the dishes is evident in the presentation as well as flavour. my favourite was the matcha creme brûlée which actually had the bitter tone of matcha.
the terrarium was magical - with the jasmine tea panna cotta that was well balanced with the sweet white chocolate shell, my taste buds were on its own little adventure. the intricate presentation of the flowers made everything even more exciting. moreover,
the vanilla infused croissant was light and flaky without being too oily. the only negative aspect was that the vanilla flavour was not dominant and i would have liked to taste more of the bean.

in general, i loved this place - another recommendation. i mean, it's instagram worthy and lovely. a win, win.

been meaning to check this place out after seeing so many pretty ig photos! so i made a reservation for a sunday and a good thing i did cause it did get a bit busy!

love the use of marble and hexagon tiles, such a fresh and inviting look! it's just a lot smaller than expected and that applies to everything i'm talking about. from the individual sweets and cutlery to their chairs and tables.

we got the winter high tea ($27.50 pp) and my goodness was it beautiful! the taste however, was a bit disappointing and a bit expensive for such a small amount of treats given. however i did quite enjoy the raspberry tartlette.

nevertheless can definitely see the hype as it's super ig worthy and the flowers are so pretty! service is also friendly and attentive.

pretty impressed with the selections of desserts here! tastes sooo good!
though, i must say, the scones could have been a bit more fluffier. otherwise everything here is delicious!

so there are places where desserts are too pretty and you feel guilty eating them. but then all your guilt flies away because they taste amazing. tried the terrarium. it's basically has lupicia jasmin tea panacotta, yuzu gel, strawberry crisps, chocolate soil, edible flowers and lemon balm. and let's not forget how pretty it looks! you get a burst of different layers of flavours while tasting. and the layers are quite distinguishable from each other. i paired it with a lemongrass and organic peppermint tea. beautiful combination. coming back till i try all of what they have.
