located inside itc grand maratha, peshawari is an elegant and classy indian restaurant specialising in dal and breads. the menu is extremely limited, with surprisingly no rice dish.
they follow a concept of eating with your hands and do not provide cutlery. i personally had no problem with the concept and infact enjoyed it. the aprons they give instead of normal napkins was definitely something different and fun.
we started off our meal with the subz seekh kabab and tandoori aloo. the seekh kabab was tender and the aloo was generously stuffed with dry fruits. both the items were great and tasted better with the chutney.
for our mains we went with the paneer khurchan and the famous dal bukhara. the paneer khurchan was fairly average, but the dal is worth the praise and accolades it has received. it’s simmered overnight, which comes out in it’s beautiful creamy texture and the flavour of the spices. the naans and laccha paratha were extremelygoodas well.
for the desserts, we had the kulfi, gulab jamun and the phirni. the kulfi had a very rich creamy texture and tasted outstanding. the gulab jamun was definitely one of the best i’ve had till date.
the phirni was a bit bland and lacked flavour.
the service was impeccable, something that is expected out of a 5 star hotel. this restaurant is definitely priced on a much higher side even when compared to other hotels of similar quality, and i would recommend this as a one time experience mainly for the dal bukhara.
