the design of therestaurantis just beautiful. it is open with lots of light and allows you to enjoy the view over the vineyard and the city. the menu is modern and innovative. obviously the wine list showcasing the penfolds wines which also gives you the opportunity to consider rare vintages. the food was fantastic it was beautifully presented and flavours were amazing. the only let down was the table service. on arrival there was no warm welcome. it took a long time for the order to be taken and there were long delays in refilling wine glasses. for this level ofrestaurantand this price there needs to be a much better focus on customer service and much better attention to table service.

i did enjoy having dinner at magill estate kitchen with a beautiful view of grape vines and lavender blossoms.
we tried the truffle pasta - it’s not cooked with infused truffle oil but actual truffle slices. the pasta was very rich and creamy.
and i did enjoy the dessert apple crumble too.
it’s a beautiful and laid backrestaurantfor friends/family catch up.

therestaurantdoesn't tell you...but if you select the tasting menu .... you do not get a sample of lots of different dishes.  unlike any other tasting menu....you get simply the dishes from the menu that the kitchen chooses for you.  in our case (there were 2 of us) we got bread/a bar snack/1 entree/ 2 mains and 1 dessert.  so for our $150 we got dishes that we would not have chosen...in fact we felt we were getting just what wasn't selling that day.  if you go to therestaurantchoose your own dishes.....don't be seduced by "tasting menu"  it"s not a tasting menu.   also we had to kill several blowflies that were buzzing over our food. (yes we were indoors!)

what an overratedrestaurantand a limited wine list. had the degu with 50 for a friends birthday. wish they had been as assiduous topping up wine glasses as they were water glasses. hopeless. food is average +, but nothing more. this is not a value observation. i don't give a stuff what it costs. ordinary. go to orana if you want this type of meal. it's light years better.

ambience- gorgeous - modern - sophisticated - v classy
service - wonderful - but they almost dropped by the table too much interrupting conversation filling up one sip of water in each glass
food - some might find it a little too "gourmet" but it was fine dining at an affordable price point. gorgeous flavours and something for everyone, even the picky ones!
the wine list was actually quite basic, would have liked to see a few more options given it is penfolds! i did order something they served at cellar door but not in therestaurantand they helpfully obliged.
overall a great place for a special occasion, but not for the frugal.
