the design of the restaurant is just beautiful. it is open with lots of light and allows you to enjoy the view over the vineyard and the city. the menu is modern and innovative. obviously the wine list showcasing the penfolds wines which also gives you the opportunity to consider rare vintages. the food was fantastic it was beautifully presented and flavours were amazing. the only let down was the table service. on arrival there was no warm welcome. it took a long time for the order to be taken and there were long delays in refilling wine glasses. for this level of restaurant and this price there needs to be a much better focus on customer service and much better attention to table service.

should be 4.5 stars.

almost perfect experience. food, wine, service, decor.

standout was the pork belly. meat was super melt in your mouth tender. nice amount of fat. intense flavours, which was good it came with little bit of apple salad. actually a big serve for price. restaurants like these normally give you half or one third of the meat.

tofu dumplings were better than i expected. it had nice light smoked flavour. beautiful but serving size small compared to pork.

didn't expect a burger to be on the menu so had to order it. it was simple but delicious. patty had a nice crust on it that was a contrast to the mixed cheese.

beef tartare was so good. beef so soft. the bearnaise added another level of flavour and creaminess.

duck parfait was good. liked having the pear to add slight sweetness and to counteract the richness.

the only let down- roast eggplant. it was tough, chewy and lacked flavour.

i did enjoy having dinner at magill estate kitchen with a beautiful view of grape vines and lavender blossoms.
we tried the truffle pasta - it’s not cooked with infused truffle oil but actual truffle slices. the pasta was very rich and creamy.
and i did enjoy the dessert apple crumble too.
it’s a beautiful and laid back restaurant for friends/family catch up.

great food at a high price. lunch for four was over $250. risotto was very strong with seafood stock and one other flavour of peas, it needed more as marron is very subtle. lamb with fried broccolini was good. we also had the eel toast. wine tasting is not free, but it’s redeemable on food or wine. tawny was lovely.

the restaurant doesn't tell you...but if you select the tasting menu .... you do not get a sample of lots of different dishes.  unlike any other tasting menu....you get simply the dishes from the menu that the kitchen chooses for you.  in our case (there were 2 of us) we got bread/a bar snack/1 entree/ 2 mains and 1 dessert.  so for our $150 we got dishes that we would not have chosen...in fact we felt we were getting just what wasn't selling that day.  if you go to the restaurant choose your own dishes.....don't be seduced by "tasting menu"  it"s not a tasting menu.   also we had to kill several blowflies that were buzzing over our food. (yes we were indoors!)

really nice place to walk around and try the wine although quite expensive. we had a few oysters and some cheese and it came to around $50. bit ridiculous but i guess that's what you get when you go to an establishment like penfolds. would still return.

great views. slow service. food is quite nice, but overpriced. very limited choice for vegetarians. the wine tasting is good - free tasting of a substantial list if you are dining in the restaurant.

entertaining an interstate visitor, obvious choice, magill estates.

well, we have made better choices.

i will have to admit this is a late review and we dined on the previous menu, i am happy to see they have changed the menu.

service was prompt and friendly and the establishment and views are worth the visit.

we decided to have the $75 chef’s selection, not worth it.

if you are going to share plates, you need to put equal amounts of ingredients on the plate to be able to successfully share the dish and i think one duck leg to share between two peeps is a little ridiculous. however, i am finding that this is happening in quite a lot of restaurants that i have been to, and have decided, no more chef’s selections!!

the overall food was okay, hits and misses. the sharing serves are very small and i hope they have improved this.

i am glad they have taken the crispy pig ear dish off the menu, this was truly one of the worst dishes i have ever eaten and we were incredibly surprised that if left the kitchen.

i may go back to try the new menu, which looks very nice, but not anytime soon!!

the staff here were extremely well informed on their menu and catered for my wife's dairy allergy really well! the food was good and there was a relaxed non hurried atmosphere! they provided colouring book and crayons for our little one, we will certainly be back. good value too 😀

here for the ultimate experience tour and stayed for lunch after. good coffin bay oysters. not fantastic but right temperature, brine level and presentation. beef tartare was good again but not excellent. main courses were much better though. spaghetti bolognaise and angus rib eye were worth waiting for. flavorful and of the right texture, they saved the meal from being ordinary

went here for brunch. lovely atmosphere, company and beautiful views sitting outside. the breakfast for two was overpriced and average which was more like tapas. smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which was bland. but the holoumi and quinoa was quite delicious. the service was slow possibly because we were outside.

however what bothered me the most was that they were not accommodating for pregnant women. we wanted to sub poached eggs for well cooked scrambled and they said they couldn't swap things. i felt our requests weren't difficult and it's a shame that our pregnant diner had to omit things off her plate. unfortunately the only pregnant friendly dish was unavailable that day.

breakfast was pretty average - definitely better food and value for money places around this side of town.

reading through the comments i've come along the words "overpriced" and "overrated" a couple of times. true, coffee will be a bit more expensive than many places in the city centre, without it being better, but you're looking at the vineyards, just a few minutes from downtown. that has a price to it and i'm willing to pay! location is stunning. if your friend is visiting for just a few days, this is the place where to sit down for a chat.
