peg leg pete’s is one the most popular oyster and seafood bars in pensacola beach. prior to our visit there, we’ve driven by the place many, many times and their parking lot always seemed full . . . so we figured to try to catch them at a not-too-busy time period sometime in the future. we camped at fort pickens park 6 miles west of town and decided to ride our bikes into town on a wednesday for lunch at peg leg pete’s. many others had the same idea so we had to “take a number” towaitfor a table to open up. that wasn’t too long and soon we are inside being served. once inside and looking around it is apparent peg leg’s several dining areas will accommodate lots more diners than there are parking spaces. so tip for other visitors. a full parking lot does not mean long waits for a table. . . . or actually getting your meal served. this is a big place inside.

there are tons of seafood places in this area but surprisingly enough. there are not many with as good of food and service as peg leg pete's! we ate here twice while on our one week vacation. i almost never do that unless the food is outstanding. i really love the traditional jumbo gulf shrimp cocktails. you would think being on the ocean this would not be hard to find. these days its almost impossible. not only did peg leg pete's have them as a appetizer. they were very good! they do the traditional cold glass with 5 huge fresh shrimp around the rim with their spices and some of the best homemade cocktail sauce i have ever had.

the amazing food didn't stop there either. i had a very good fresh salad and a dozen of the best spicy lafitte baked oysters i have ever had. the oysters were seasoned and cooked to perfection. my wife had the king crab and unlike most places they were worthy of the name "king" crab ... they were huge and also cooked to perfection. the service was great and the place was very clean. i cantwaitto visit them again the next time we are in town. i rate these guys a+++ in every category. i cant think of even one small negative remark.

this is one of the best restaurants in the pensacola area. the baked oysters are worth the longwaittime.. my grandkids play on the playground when we are waiting which is an added bonus of an already great atmosphere.

waited for 20 mins, sat for 20 more.. we had a shortwaitof 20 mins at bar. were seated without problems. server introduced herself and said she would be back for drink orders shortly thereafter. waited 20+ minutes with no server sighting and left to eat elsewhere. restaurant had a filthy feeling so we weren't exactly heartbroken their service execution was abysmal.

great experience; great ambience.

went in on a wednesday night and thewaittime was 65 - 70 minutes and people were still pulling in. worth thewaittoo.

we headed to the pirate themed play yard and listened to a live band, 'continuum,' play classics, hits and originals while we ordered some drinks from the bar.

the crowd was thick and friendly. the hour passed in no time.

really enjoyed my night.

a bit pricey though on the entrees.

had a dozen raw oysters, wife had the mix grill and i had the stuffed grouper. delicious.

they really know how to take care of the kiddos too --- besides having the foresight to put in a play yard while you wait, they also serve the kids their meal in a keepsake bucket and all the kid's meals come with a rice krispy treat --- smart people.

service was fast and friendly. the decorations are, to me, on par w/a disney themed restaurant without the "cast members."

look forward to returning.

happy night out with family! longwaitbut got seated right away, downstairs and outside. just know the entire menu is not available downstairs. we were ok with selections but check in case your fave is not included. they also have gluten free menu. several of us had the shrimp and crab leg dinner and it was a huge amount of both! cooked perfectly! others had the grouper and it was really hefty portion as well. they were very happy with it. not heavily breaded either. loved the special shipwrecked drink! great service too!

excellent!. had our first visit here today. everything was excellent. our waitress, danielle, was phenomenal. they were somewhat busy during lunch but the food was delivered quickly with an entourage of friendly and personablewaitstaff. highly recommend the oyster sampler platter from the appetizer menu. just can't write enough great things about our experience here. would love to revisit during warmer weather.

spinach artichoke dip. peg leg pete's makes an amazingly good spinach artichoke dip that is served piping hot and dripping with cheese. it is served with fresh tortilla chips and just enough for 2.

-----13 oct, 2014-----

they offer grouper prepared several different ways but the fried is very good. the fish remains tender and flaky while the outside is crispy. it always tastes fresh.

thewaitis worth it!. peg leg pete's was recommended to me by both locals and tourists. we arrived around 7:00 pm on a monday night and we were greeted warmly by the hostess. we were told it would be approximately a 30 minutewaitand it was close to that. thewaitwas worth it! we began our meal with the best spinach artichoke dip that i have ever tasted. it was hot and cheesy and complete with grated parmesan cheese on top. i ordered the fried grouper and had a side of fries and sugar snap peas. everything was fresh and the grouper was cooked to perfection. the fish was flavorful, moist and flaked on my fork. the fries were good and the seasoning had a dash of sweetness. my dining companion ordered the stuffed grouper with garlic toast, new potatoes and seasoned rice. he enjoyed the grouper but he ordered clarified butter from the kitchen to enhance the flavor of the grilled grouper. another dining companion ordered the fried shrimp and stated it was delicious. they do have a kids menu and the food is served in a sand pail. kids meals come with fries and a drink. the cost for our meal...3 adults and one child with drinks was $85. the atmosphere is casual, busy and loud. it's not a place for a quiet conversation. the staff is friendly, efficient, attentive and accommodating. we can'twaitto go back again!

stay for the upstairs menu. we went twice on our stay. once we went downstairs where its almost the same menu, just no grilled items. we had fried oysters and fried shrimp...soooo good. the appetizer of steamed oysters, were meh. small and definitely not worth the price.

then we went early on another night and got a table upstairs. had grilled scallops and omg delishhhh. my husband had the blackened mahi mahi and it was fresh and amazing.

definitely glad we went to try the upstairs. the only bad thing was thewaitstarts at about 5pm, so it was a super early dinner, but well worth it. will be back on our next trip to pensacola.

didn't find it "cheap". i'm a lifelong local but amazingly have never been to peg leg pete's for anything except drinks at night. i saw peg leg pete's listed under the "cheap eats" category on urbanspoon and thought that was somewhat misleading. i would put it in the next category up. this place is a great deal for oysters, that's for sure, and has a lot of affordable options, but it is still very easy to walk out of there with a hefty bill. there are half priced wine nights, and i believe now it is .60 cent oyster nights, so call for deals.the oyster prices are pretty darn good.

the service was excellent. our server was attentive but not overly so, our food arrived incredibly quickly and we didn'twaittoo long.

the side salad was nothing to write home about, just your standard iceberg situation. the crab claw appetizer was drenched in butter but no real trace of garlic. they were fairly lackluster so i recommend getting fried.

the oysters were great, even for summer when they aren't at their best. i got the sampler because i'd never had their baked oysters before and couldn't decide between imperial or cajun. i was surprised to discover my favorite of the bunch ended up being buffalo! a buffalo sauce, bleu cheese and breadcrumb topped oyster seemed pretty gimmicky and silly to me, but i really have to admit that it somehow worked really well. the peg leg pete's hot sauce was awesome, it has a very interesting flavor, almost like a tiger sauce, a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg or something like that? tastes awesome on oysters!

we split some snow crab legs and i was disappointed to find they were dreadfully overcooked, maybe even re-steamed or boiled. you can sort of tell when the legs look rather translucent, they bend instead of cracking open, the meat is all bunched up into nothing and hard to remove, etc. if you want snow crab, i know the place is kitschy but i would honestly recommend crabs we got 'em. it is gulf side with a nearly unbeatable view for a pcola beach restaurant, and they mainly do crab, so they have it down. for oysters i'm going to hands down say peg leg pete's is the best place in pensacola.

shore favorites, done well. their menu is very similar to other seafood restaurants, but they do it incredible well.

their prices are appropriate, much cheaper than comparable restaurants around here such as crabs. they serve the usually shore food consisting of fried, grilled, and steamed seafood and vegetable dishes, with a few pasta and 'turf dishes.

thewaitstaff was great too. they know how to get customers in and out quickly without making you feel rushed. they manage to do this by being extremely efficient in getting your requests filled, but without making you feel like a burden. food comes out in a flash!

from the menu, to the prices, to the quality of food, to the execution, this restaurant knows their concept and executes it brilliantly.
