a quick walk up magazine street from the convention center, both the louisiana children’s museum and national wwii museum not far away, peche seafood grill has quickly ascended to the same lofty status as other donald link restaurants by way of the beard award for best new restaurant and best chef: south in 2014, a wednesday lunch showing the space dedicated to seasonal, costal seafood to be a bit more pricey than it could be, but still pretty great.

continuing a downtown trend to invigorate the warehouse district, chef ryan prewitt given the reins to a semi-open kitchen and raw bar overlooking worn wood tables and a room bathed in blue, those entering peche will quickly notice a nautical theme referenced by everything from the bar décor to the wall-art, the service loose but professional in describing a handful of daily specials atop a menu also prone to frequent change.

seated at a lengthy banquet with back to the kitchen, the bar and dining area quick to fill with a suited lunch crowd of businessmen and convention-goers, it was with an eye on variety that the decision was made to eschew large plates in favor of snacks and small plates, the first round of dark seafood gumbo alongside pepper-infusedshrimpfritters each impressive in their complex interplay of textures as well as spice profiles best described as piquant or bright as opposed to ‘hot.’

a bit more hit and miss with course two, the hush puppies amongst the best ever seen with a golden crust that actually crackles overlying a soft center of cornmeal and chives without a hint of oil, the $13 trio of “crab stuffed”shrimpproved barely-so, the version at jacque-imo’s only $8.95 for nearly twice the portion of bothshrimpand stuffing with a far more interesting pimento cream sauce.

already impressed by chef maggie scales desserts at cochon and cochon butcher, several similarities seen on the peche menu, at least in terms of ingredients and concepts, salted peanut pie here was served much like the traditional pecan version over a sticky-sweet base with a topping of salted peanut ice cream and dark chocolate sauce, the steamy apple toffee cake walking a fine line of spices and sugar with a pudding-soft texture alongside a ball of tangy sour cream ice cream.

overall one of the best restaurants we have eaten at. the baked drum with curry and the smothered catfish were both amazing. i am not much of a fish eater but these dishes were so delicious that they almost masked the fishy taste that i dislike so much. the corn andshrimpchowder was also delicious however it was a large portion of all puréed soup there was nothing to chew. i felt like an infant after a while eating it. in my opinion it should be served at least with a piece of toasted bread of some sort on the side.

we had an excellent lunch here. i've dined at other donald link restaurants, and this is my favorite. we had delicious raw oysters from dauphin island. i love that they tell you where the oysters were harvested. those were some of the best oysters i've had. the crab salad was perfection. for real. light and delicious. i could have eaten two of them. the roasted corn with chiles is phenomenal. just packed with flavor. those were the three standouts, but everything else we had was very good, as well. the only dish that wasn't perfect was the spicyshrimpwith noodles. theshrimpwas ground up, and the flavor was overwhelmed by the spice. but the spicy sauce and noodles were actually really, really good, so there's that. overall, i can't wait to return and introduce some other peeps to this great spot.

my favorite restaurant in new orleans! the oysters are to die for, and the whole grilled fish is something i dream about! the side dishes are also a delight - the crab and jalapeno capellini wins first prize in the delicious category, and the spicy groundshrimpnoodles are a close second. if you love seafood, this is the best of the best.

came here on the recommendation of our friend, mark.  we initially had booked a res with luke but decided to come here instead.  what we ordered for the four of us:shrimptoast ($7) smoked tuna dip ($7) fried bread w/ sea salt ($5) hushpuppies ($6) seafood gumbo ($9) crab & jalapeno capellini ($14) spicy groundshrimp& noodles ($12) we were wondering why fried bread was on the menu… we were obviously just being foolish.  we should know better than to question a chef who won a james beard award.  these were little balls of heaven! crispy, hot, and awesome.shrimptoast was a twist on what we expected.  theshrimpwas fried together into one piece and placed on top of toast.  the texture reminded me asianshrimpballs on sugar cane sticks (anyone know what i’m talking about?)  it was good!  the pickles added the needed sweet/sour taste to cut the fat. smoked tuna dip was good and came in a huge portion.  it did get a little overwhelming after a while but still good. we had to ask for more crackers to finish it up.  we think crackers were good but crispy bread would’ve been better. hushpuppies were okay.  make sure you dip it in the sauce. seafood gumbo.  kyle really liked this one. spicy groundshrimp& noodles (above) were so tasty!  noodles were cooked al dente.  sauce was incredible.  i wanted to slurp it up. the crab and jalapeno capellini looks bland but it is also equally fantastic! food:  we loved the food here.  this was my favorite meal!  notable dishes: pasta dishes were uh-mazing.  make sure you get the fried bread. ambience :  awesome, industrial-looking, yet charming space.  exposed wood beams and brick. high ceilings.  lots of natural light.  natural woods.

nice new spot on my list now..... not on my favorite list yet but certainly had a good start as i tried them out on a weeknight while in town.

scored the last seat at the raw bar as a solo diner as the bar was already full at like 6:30 pm.

loved sitting here as the action was fast and furious and oysters and desserts flew by me like planes out of louis armstrong.

the raw bar guys talked it up with you too and gave some recos as well. i was noshing on this evening and ordered small plates and some seafood gumbo. and everyone knows there are a few gumbo recipes. purists like me who grew up on the best gumbo ever in ocean springs, mississippi know that a seafood gumbo is not degraded with chicken, sausage or anything but copious amounts of seafood. the roux here was as close to my recipe(my grandmas actually) as i have tasted over the years. dark and short of burned but very rich and buttery.

i also had smoked drumfish with butternut squash and some spice along with other friends. marinated crab claws in chili vinegar were tasty as well but for $14 i would like a few more of them on the plate please. i finished with a lush dish of housemade pappardelle pasta with shitake and chanterelle mushrooms and bacon. as this is one of my fave pasta's i was in heaven here and stuffed after finishing up all these.

i noticed that a few folks bemoaned not having any bread service and i think i will have to agree with them on that count. one of my fave things is the crunchy, hot, fresh bread at mr. b's where you can butter it, dredige it in gumbo or bbqshrimpjuice, etc. please add it.

i had two great local brews with my dinner: parish canebreak(a new fave) and nola brewery blonde.

no room for dessert but coming back with the wife and getting the peanut butter choice.

hope to make it a fave after next trip and glad to have a new spot in no to visit!

seafood dinner like no other. the restaurant is a large open space and the hard surfaces reflect a lot of sound. this is not a bad thing! the atmosphere is lively and exciting, you feel like you're on the edge of an adventure, and the food delivers on that feeling. i'm not a big fan of fish and only tried this restaurant because my companion wanted to. to say i was impressed is an understatement. i had theshrimpand corn bisque which was simply wonderful! greatshrimpflavour with a bit of spice to liven it up. my companion went for the raw oysters and was very impressed with the alabama variety in particular. the entrees were quite large but not overwhelming as sometimes happens in new orleans, my wahoo collar which wasn't on the menu but was recomennded by our waiter was some of the best fish i've ever had!, moist flaky and very tasty. my companions dinner was equally impressive, she had theshrimproll and a side of roasted pumpkin. the roasted pumpkin was the star of her dish. try it you'll like it.

the emperor has no clothes.... my husband and i had been looking forward to dinner at peche for months. we travel to new orleans once a year and spend the better part of that year reading about the newest in restaurant options while always frequenting our favorite old standbys. this year we again booked a reservation at restaurant august (our fourth outing there) and clancys in uptown to which we had never been but had long heard was a favorite among locals. but our most anticipated outing was sure to be peche seafood grill, recently awarded the james beard for best new restaurant. not in new orleans. in america. wow. we were pleased to see the converted warehouse as we entered and intrigued by the sandblasted old brick, high ceilings and distressed wood. casual. welcoming, not stuffy. what fun for new orleans! unfortunately it was almost immediately apparent there was a problem. it is literally the loudest restaurant to which we have ever been. not loud in a fun, or familiar or spirited, energetic way. it's like having a meal next to a jet engine. the noise level makes it an almost impossible dining experience. we had hoped the food would make up for the noise. alas, that was not the case. the gumbo was solid, but we were a little disappointed that there was no sausage from sausage king donald link. that must be a recurring surprise for guests as our waiter brought it up proactively before we ordered. my husband had the crab with capellini and gulf shrimp. theshrimpwere large and tasted fresh, but the capellini was overwhelmed by the starch in the noodles and very bland. i had the drum which was so spicy that the fish was completely in the background. we had been led to believe we would see fish being cooked over an open fire which was to be part of the dining experience. instead we saw dishes being handed to wait staff over a tall counter top. after an hour of trying to converse and repeating ourselves over and over, we finally gave up, decided to forego dessert which unfortunately looked to be quite good and head back to the windsor court for coffee and dessert in the lounge (where incidentally the pecan pie was very good). the meal at peche was above average but did not stand up against either august or clancys. how disappointing. if this is the best new restaurant in america, the process must be highly politicized and celebrity chef driven rather than earned on the merits. take a pass on peche or come with your expectations in check.

loud, expensive, a little too cool for it's own good.. made a reservation but still had to wait for a table which was next to the kitchen. the reviews complaining of the place being loud are all the straight truth. while there are some more reasonably priced things on the menu i'd have to say it is somewhat overpriced, and sides are al la carte and cost extra. the food was really hit and miss and i suspect if you're not going to order a $50 plus whole fish entree you aren't getting their best food.

well reviewed groundshrimpand pasta was dull and overrated with meager protein. room temp eggplant side was slimy and strange.

not accommodating. we made reservations for lunch for a party of 12 and were that we would have to be seated at two tables. we were surprised that the restaurant is large and could easily have seated us together. there are two large banquette areas that would have been ideal, but the hostess informed us that they were for smaller parties only and they could not push tables together. they would not budge, so all twelve of us managed to sit at a table for 8! the food was good, but when we requested bread we were told there was none. however, there is ashrimproll(shrimp on a bun), and appetizers with toasted bagel slices. either of these would have sufficed, to balance the spicy entrees.the coffee was cold. i would prefer to patronize the other great restaurants in new orleans that appreciate their customers and try to please them.

the atmosphere is wonderful..kinda laid back and relaxed. blue point oysters are divine as are the mint-chili crab claws. the royal redshrimpwith garlic butter is also very.impressiv. you do need to shell them but its worth the work. friend of mine had the seafood gumbo also. was a bit spicy for him but seemed fine to me it came with a crab claw which.was devoured. i had the drum with.tomatoes ans ginger which was amazing. the service was really too notch. they checked on us without being over bearing and were informative on the menu and wines. a+ will definitely be going back

i went here for a birthday dinner with some friends and the only thing i can say that i enjoyed was my company. first off we arrived before our scheduled reservation time of 8:30 and were not seated until 9:20. once sitting down it took our server approximately 10 minutes to get our drink order and another 15 minutes before we received them. the venue was bumping with music and had no noise softeners leading you to have to scream with your table companions. upon ordering we received our food quickly. however we had mixed feelings on our food with the winners being the raw tuna and the crab and artichoke croquettes. however, the catfish in the catfish and greens tasted dirty and the dark line was visible in every piece, the hushpuppies were dry and served with congealed looking sauce that looked as though it has been sitting under a heat lamp. the lamb kabobs and smashed potatoes were delish, but the beets were overly vinegary and i couldn't even taste them. the chicken diablo was uninspiring and the theshrimpwere over cooked and inedible. overall there were few decent choices, however the poor service and lack of anything really making an impression would lead me to say that there are much better places in the city and i will not return or recommend this place to anyone.
