my foodie friend, michy, and i tried ombu because i got a gc from zomato. boy, was i so glad that i got one to this resto! i loved the food, the ambiance, the prices and the service! to date, i've eaten here thrice already.
here are some dishes that i loved:
1. salted egg spaghetini - i loved the concept of this pasta dish and you can really taste the salted eggs, complete with tomatoes and cucumber bits.

2. crispy glazed chicken - the chicken was oh-so-crispy and the sauce is just right. garlicky with some sweetness. yum! good for sharing.

3. binakol - creamy coconut and chicken soup that is good for the heart and good for the soul. this is not offered in a lot of restos so its really a must-try.

4. crispy kangkong - perfect appetizer and for a very good price too
i also like how the wait staff are very attentive and courteous. it makes one at home with them. and the relaxed atmosphere was very welcoming.
will i come back? definitely. i would like to try the rest of the menu that i haven't tried yet! hope they won't change.

so i went with my dad and my sister to ombu and ordered their sizzling sisig, salisbury bistek, and eggplant omelette. their salisbury was a w e s o m e . a must try. their sisig tasted good too, it was just too spicy for me to handle. their eggplant omelette is kinda like tortang talong. it had a hint of bacon tho.... and it was too oily for me. but overall, the experience was great. they have a friendly crew. the place is nice and quiet, a good place to have meetings. the price is alright. i'll surely go back to have another meal.

my friend and i had a post-christmas dinner at ombu.

for starters, we had binakol and gising-gising. i love that the we were served extra soup for the binakol.

for mains, we tried the salted egg spaghettini and crispy garlic chicken. loved both dishes!

for dessert, we ordered beignet with tsokolate-eh dip and frozen brazo de mercedes.

i definitely loved my experience with ombu. the staff was very friendly, the servings are generous, and the prices are quite affordable. it's one restaurant you should really visit.

situated right beside the ground floor entrance of sequoia hotel, ombu actually looks like your usual hotel café, though in reality it is a separate and independent restaurant. its clean and elegant interiors, coupled with the black and white motif exuded a modern hotel-ish vibe. as i sat on one of the square lounge- like chairs ( shaped into mini-booths), i noticed the intricate white, wooden, circular wall patterns which served as a nice accent point for the place. they were playing love songs, and on this “easy like sunday morning” sunday (as lionel richie puts it), time was also like good food that was meant to be savored.

then the real good food arrived. i had the crispy glazed chicken and the salisbury bistek tagalog and a cup of plain rice. since my usual dining buddies weren’t with me, and i had to max-out a p500 voucher, this seemed like the best order combination.

the glazed chicken was as described: freshly- fried and crisp chicken, glazed in sweet spicy sauce, and topped with fried garlic and chopped onion leeks. it was superb. even with the sauce, one can taste hints of various spices and garlic. ombu did a wonderful job.

the salisbury bistek tagalog was also good. two big burger patties with soy and calamansi sauce, and topped with red onions, served on a sizzling plate. though i’m pretty sure the burgers weren’t 100% pure beef, and i would have preferred white onions over red onions, it was still sumptuous. i found it comforting and it was a good complement to the sweet glazed chicken. since the servings were good for sharing, i had to take out some of the food. (which i ate a few hours later, at home.)

the servers were attentive and they made sure that i had what i needed. they also told me that the owner/chef of ombu also has another restaurant with a different name, somewhere near camp crame. i definitely recommend ombu. anytime you can have great food for two, with good service, at a nice quiet place for only p500+ total, that surely is a great deal.

thanks to zomato, this one was even free.

my wife and i came to the zomato event at ombu.

the event was great and the food was insane!

it took me a while before posting this review. i went to singapore with my wife for our much delayed honeymoon. i really thought that after several weeks i can get over my experience with ombu... i did not... i still remember the experience to be quit memorable and the food to be insane!

i loved the crispy dinuguan! it was my 1st time to partake of such a concept!

the seafood items given to is were cooked really well! you can definitely taste the delicate sweetness of the seafood.

the crispy veggie leaves/kangkong lived up to my expectations: crispy and tasty!

the binakol was a nice concept tinolang manok with a coconut juice twist

my wife liked the salted egg spaghetti and the herb crusted mahi mahi - highly recommended

my wife did not find the taste of the smoked bangus in the spaghetti which was a letdown.

my wife did not like the dessert: beignet with tsokolate eh dip

i highly recommend the bagnet dinuguan!

ombu might sound like a japanese restaurant but the filipino flavors in the dishes are truly insane and will make you come back for more!

located at the newly opened sequoia hotel on mo. ignacia, ombu offers a modern take on filipino cuisine. snappy white decor, with accents that remind you of the sea, emphasizes their modern approach.

there's adobo, sinigang, and nilaga on the menu, if one wants to play on the safe side, but i recommend trying some of their more inventive dishes for the experience, like their homemade spaghettini with salted egg, or their herbed mahi-mahi fish fillet in a cream sauce, which comes alive with a dash of garlic. fans of bagnet and dinuguan put together will find a good version of it here.

we liked the idea of the crispy kangkong appetizer, but unfortunately the oil they used for frying was already stale, clinging to an otherwise airy batter.

for dessert, ask for the additional listings; they've increased the number of desserts from five to about a dozen. beignet fritters go well dipped in a special tsokolate-eh sauce, and my new favorite dessert is their frozen brazo de mercedes, a dreamy layering of graham, mantecado ice cream (i think; it could be dulce de leche), custard, and beautiful meringue that isn't too sweet. dessert alone is worth your visit.
