olives and plates - club & conference

when i was a student here last year, thisplaceused to be theplacewe used to celebrate end of exams. this restaurant is based in the university, but we used to share one plate for all 5 of us, cause we were all students and it was super pricey. but it was worth it. especially their deserts- yummy!

never knew there would be such a gem that exists on wits campus ! thisplaceis very fancy, the service is great and so is the food ! a slice of cake is a must have after your meal ! there’s a huge variety of cakes, which makes it very difficult to choose as they all look so delicious!

i was immensely disappointed with my outing at this place. i had booked my table well in advanced. after the food came to our table, one of the managers loudly announced that we need to leave the table. there after the waiter had indicated that we need to move while eating our lunch. then the customer intervened that she did not mind us being seated near her seating area. on the topic of the food, it was simple utterly bland. the the avocado with pasta had black marks. more so i ordered a second drink, which the waiter conveniently forgotten. this might have been a greatplaceonce, but the service is disrespectful and the quality of their food has deteriorated.

i have a sweet tooth and olives and plates is my go to when it comes to cake. they have a wonderful array of cakes. my all time favorite is the baklava cheesecake, however on this occasion i shared a slice of pecan pie and a hazelnut chocolate cake which was absolutely divine. the service was amazing and the staff were friendly. perfectplacefor brunch. i’m counting down the days till my next visit :)

greatplacewith even "greater" food. call to reserve a table as it easily gets busy and you will end up on the waiting list. a takeaway option is available if you cannot wait to be seated. the food is great anywhere you eat it. 😊

this is my favouriteplaceto have breakfast/lunch in joburg. olives has a great setting, excellent service and meals filled with fresh, quality ingredients. top notch!

my friends and i came here for brunch after an exam. almost all the tables were reserved but luckily we managed to get a table. the service was a bit slow as the staff were getting theplaceready for a function. however, the waiters are all very friendly and helpful. the food took a little bit of time but it was worth it. i ordered the hot cakes. the presentation was beautiful and it was delicious. i would love to come back here to try the rest of their menu as well as their well known delicious cakes.

olives and plates was my favouriteplaceto be at wits and i was able to host a final year event there too. the range of food is amazing, and all of it is good. they have thee best halloumi ravioli pasta, and the ricotta pancakes for breakfast are a must. the dessert menu is the greatest selling point, with the salted caramel cheesecake being the best! the staff are very accomdating and you feel transported to an old school manor.

as a current wits student olives is definitely a gem in the high pressure academic environment . 😂it’s also located close to an exam venue for a little comfort after a difficult paper .
it doesn’t even feel like you’re on campus ,theplaceis so gorgeous and peaceful . whether you’re sitting outside or inside it’s a beautiful environment. outside there’s a small pond with these really pretty fish ,breathtaking scenery and peaceful breeze . inside it’s dim ,beautifully set tables ,gorgeous decor and soft music in the background .

the service is pretty good,a bit disappointing if you’re sitting in a corner table sometimes . i’m a person of habit and i almost always order the same thing every time i go there . my favorite dish is the steak ,egg and fries. the meal is so filling and the presentation of the dish is always on point . on this particular occasion i ordered steelworks ,my friend a cheeseburger with a frappy . i tasted the frappy and it’s definitely for coffee lovers ,it was way too strong for my liking .
dessert is the highlight of every olives visit . their cake options are out of this world ,it’s cake heaven and making a choice is always difficult. i’d suggest you have the cake as a sit down because the slice comes with strawberry slices and fresh cream . these aren’t there if it’s a takeaway .

i love love thisplaceand would recommend it on any given day . great ,relaxing spot .

wow wow what can i say the breakfast was amazing! eggs are eggs everywhere but the pork sausage was top quality and the sautéed mushrooms was fantastic! this is one breakfastplacein my top 3 in jhb.

staff top notch and polite and timing exact.
nice neat and calm environment to enjoy your outing.

easy and safe parking no irritating car guards as you are inside the university grounds.

really give it a try it won't disappoint!

i enjoyed the salad and i'm not a salad person the meatballs were so tasty and tasted my partner's crusted chicken so tender and tasty amazing service was slow but it was full and waiter put a dirty glass by mistake shame i think they are under staffed he must be feeling the pressure.the have an amazing range of cakes and there was a buffet that was so had to resist but it was above our budget for the day but it was so worth the price what i love about theplaceis that the vegetable variety that they have esp in the buffet.

wow. a real hidden gem. who knew thisplaceexisted on wits campus.
the best hot cakes i have ever had in my life. served with actual honeycomb and banana finished off with warm honey.
also indulged in a spanish omelette. equally as good! my best friend had a balsamic streak tramezzini with caramelised onions. so good, and very generous portions.
thisplaceis very popular so perhaps book beforehand.
will definitely return. soon

the only reason that this establishment is getting any points at all is purely as a result of my nostalgic memories of theplacefrom varsity days. i know the food is great here because i ate here often but i didn't get to tasting it this time around as i waited nearly 40 minutes for a meal that didn't even arrive. i had asked a server to please check the status of our order, not surprisingly, the server didn't come back to me either at which point i offered to pay for my drinks as i needed to attend a seminar. lunch time is inevitably going to be busy especially when the university is hosting large seminars - perhaps consider employing more kitchen staff for that period so that your guests don't leave hangry :(

this hidden gem is heaven for a foodie!!!!! i never would have thought i would find an amazingplacesuch as this on a varsity campus. theplacelooks beautiful on the inside, love the atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. i was here for a work lunch with the team so we were a bit pressed for time. due to some big tables and one late colleague our order took longer than expected but that took nothing away from the standard of the food. i had the fillet with baby potatoes. asked for sour cream but the chef offered marscapone instead which was even more luxurious and yummmm!!! meat was done to perfection (love a pink steak in middle). of course their unmistakable presentation had us all salivating before we dug in. my new favorite place. they have won me over.
