no frill bar and grill

you always know it's gonna be good here.. this place is a no brainer if you want to grab grab a really good dinner down in ghent. i recently had a team building dinner here with co-workers and man did we wreck the place.

i would say that there was about 12-14 of us having dinner on the evening we stopped in. it was a monday night and we had a waitress all to ourselves. even though our party was huge she was able to stay on top of it and had the orders coming out correctly. 1st drinks, then apps, then entree's with no problems at all. in fact i was quite impressed.

i had he meat loaf dinner which came with some onion rings on top and sides of steamed green beans and some corn bread. i have to say while the meal was delicious that the corn bread was really the star of this meal. in fact it's the best corn bread i've ever had period. i don't know what they do to it, but it's light years ahead of even my mothers cooking. really good stuff indeed.

i skipped desert however the ladies that were sitting at my end of the table each had something and i snapped some pictures of those as well. they all looked delicious.

great food, great time, great company. check them out.

i had a fantastic cheesesteak for lunch here today. while the place was packed to the hilt, we were seated in about 5 minutes and service was brisk. i don't think 10 minutes passed from the time we ordered our food until it was placed in front of us. our waitress keep the tea full and followed up to make sure we had everything we needed.

favorite restaurant. norfolk's no frill bar and grill is a favorite spot for my boyfriend and me. every meal we have ever eaten there has been absolutely delicious. great choices from the menu. cool atmosphere. service has always been really helpful. it stays busy, but the wait is never more than 15 minutes. my boyfriend can't get enough of the norfolk hot brown. they also have a good beer selection.

a go-to spot. great food, great/fast service, great value - every single time. i wish there was one in portsmouth.

a superb salmon special. this was the chalkboard special i ordered last night, and it was absolutely superb.

when asked how i wanted it cooked, i said "medium rare." my salmon filet came to me exactly the way i wanted it and then some. it was actually more rare than medium, which turned out to be a blessing and a revelation.

the color of the salmon meat was a visual feast with its bright hues of red and pink. i had almost forgotten how good salmon prepared in this fashion could taste.

the salmon was incredibly succulent and juicy. the asparagus, dijon dill cream, and asiago risotto cakes served admirably as supporting players to provide a truly delectable taste combination with the salmon, and which were prepared with the appropriate degree of restraint to avoid the effect of overwhelming the salmon.

the salmon was the star of the show this evening. and it was a shining star, indeed.

dining alone, i ate at the bar, where the bar staff person provided me with first class service. the martinis i ordered were superbly crafted.

the meal i enjoyed last night is a perfect example of why i regard the no frill grill as one of the two top restaurants in the ghent section of norfolk.

great!. i went here with my family and we loved the food. we got there early around 6:30 and by 7 they were packed. i suggest you get there early and ready to be hungry. the service was great and the food was worth going back to again.

had the best time there today! good friends, good drinks, good service, great food. spotswood salad is amazing.

neat place. i came here for lunch on a workday. the place has a very pleasant vibe to it. it's clean and comfortable. the food selection is pretty large, mostly sandwiches and salad. i got ny deli sandwich. it has rare roast beef cooked and shaved in house. it's served on rye with coleslaw and some other good stuff. the sandwich was huge and very fresh tasting. however, it was very under-seasoned. there was no salt at all. it's almost like they didn't season the beef. i'm not saying it was bad, it just didn't wow me. the side of beans was very good and obviously made from scratch. it's definitely worth a look for you and a second visit for me.

usual sunday spot. we tend to go to no frill bar and grill after church for the sunday brunch, and we have had about a 90% success rate. the buffalo shrimp appetizer is huge, literally they are enormous with 8 or 9 shrimp which fill a plate. the flavor is fantastic and the coating has a nice crispness to it. i get the crab cake eggs benedict, and have only had to return it once for the eggs being over poached (that whole service was pretty sub-par, but i can chalk it up to a bad day). the crab cake is pretty sizeable, and the benedict is served with a tomato slice instead of the ham, which i prefer. it is also served with a sharp cheddar potato shreds (the first thing gone from my plate lol), asparagus and some fruit. the hubby usually gets the shrimp po-boy, and it is pretty huge. it's served on a 10-inch hoagie roll and is filled with lettuce, flash fried shrimp and a remoulade sauce. normal brunch runs about $30 with tip.

i will be back!. i will be back to try other menu selections. very good!!!

new kids in town ;). my husband and i just moved here and are on a mission to find new cool places to eat and hang out, and we found this place on urbanspoon and just winged it. and it really worked for us. i had the seafood trilogy and my husband had the salmon blt. it was busy but the wait wasn't terrible. and we can't really blame them for being busy because they have really great food!!! my crab cake was yummy, my catfish was tasty and the rice was cooked perfectly. and props to the cook for getting my husband to eat cucumber! and our waitress was a sweetheart! when they were out of the dessert we wanted she recommended this place called "skinny dip" which we also loved!! our experience definitely guaranteed us as return customers :) keep up the great work

pretty cozy inside. my server was super rad and wasn't pushy at all but still quick to get the food out on time. the veggie nachos are bigger than my face so i had to take them home. coffee is really good too, not your average seattles best. believe the hype, this place is worth it.

great food! great portions! wonderful wait staff! look forward to the next time we are in norfolk.

salad!!. this place has the most incredible, outstanding salad i've ever had anywhere, hands down. it's the teriyaki sesame tuna salad, i order tuna cooked rare. it comes on a mountain of colorful vegetables and the whole thing is extremely generous, enough for lunch the next day. i've turned my husband onto it too; it's the only thing we both order whenever we go. i don't really know or care about what else they serve.

so many great restaurants in ghent and norfolk, but this has to be the best and most versatile. many styles of delicious food, great specials, large portions at a very reasonable price, and good atmosphere for a couple, family, or outing with friends. it's always a favorite for out of town guests.
