no frill bar and grill

adequate service, great food. came here for my graduation lunch with a couple of other graduates and their parents and was pleased to find that not only did they offer a variety of interesting vegetarian options, but that they were extremely tasty as well. my mother had some sort of salad with flank steak on top that she particularly liked so i can't say anything against the food but our tableservicewas a little slow, i understand we were a large party but we had called ahead and made a reservation so i'm not really sure what the problem was. anyway, we will definitely be back.

we've been to no frill many times when we lived in ghent and love that we can come home with a full meal size leftovers each! the food is pretty decent, some stuff is better than others and we would definitely go back as you can see weve been there many times.serviceis always really good though despite them being really busy all the time! beware you may have to wait for a table but it's worth it to have a good meal. i will say it's very loud in there so when my grandparents came they didn't really like it, but there's nothing they can do about that. just personal preference! if you've never been, i recommend trying it!

inviting spot that accepts reservations. (surprising how many don't). i had the veggie reuben and the kids had the cheeseburger and chicken tenders meal. the kids meals come with a side and a drink- great deal. the mac n cheese was really good; definitely made in house, not that frozen watery trash. fries were the crinkle cut frozen variety but served hot and crispy. the reuben was delicious and stacked high with sauerkraut tomatoes and had enough thousand island were it wasn't soggy. a couple of the friends i went with got the brunch specials and write those plates were loaded. the steaks and eggs were cooked as they ordered and there weren't any complaints.servicewas above average and we didn't need to ask for anything. will be going back very soon.

after reading reviews very excited.  not so much after eating there.  corn bread nondescript.  drunken cheese bread was passable, but tasted too much onion.  the crabcake sandwich  tasted like crab meat put in a blender with lots of filler.  the pasta salad was dry, and no flavor.....which seemed to be a theme in all the dishes.  theservicewas fantastic, the staff very friendly.  plenty of parking, but all full even though the restaurant when we arrived only had about 8 other patrons.  to be honest not a place i will go to again.

delicious!. we visited on a friday night; very busy but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. we had the homemade hummus, reuben sandwich and herb-roasted half chicken. everything was delicious, theservicewas great and the atmosphere was really enjoyable. we definitely plan to go again.

hampton road favorite. as a local this is always a go to restaurant. the food is consistently outstanding. atmosphere is up beat and lively.servicehas always been wonderful. you cannot go wrong with any of their salads and sandwiches. their homemade salad dressings are always tasty and give this place an advantage. i love their pierogi appetizer, esp. when it's served with freshly chopped bacon. if you still have any room, or if you have kids, go for the ice cream and chocolate chip cookie dessert, another favorite. this place knows about running a high quality restaurant, and it shows.

you always know it's gonna be good here.. this place is a no brainer if you want to grab grab a really good dinner down in ghent. i recently had a team building dinner here with co-workers and man did we wreck the place.

i would say that there was about 12-14 of us having dinner on the evening we stopped in. it was a monday night and we had a waitress all to ourselves. even though our party was huge she was able to stay on top of it and had the orders coming out correctly. 1st drinks, then apps, then entree's with no problems at all. in fact i was quite impressed.

i had he meat loaf dinner which came with some onion rings on top and sides of steamed green beans and some corn bread. i have to say while the meal was delicious that the corn bread was really the star of this meal. in fact it's the best corn bread i've ever had period. i don't know what they do to it, but it's light years ahead of even my mothers cooking. really good stuff indeed.

i skipped desert however the ladies that were sitting at my end of the table each had something and i snapped some pictures of those as well. they all looked delicious.

i had a fantastic cheesesteak for lunch here today. while the place was packed to the hilt, we were seated in about 5 minutes andservicewas brisk. i don't think 10 minutes passed from the time we ordered our food until it was placed in front of us. our waitress keep the tea full and followed up to make sure we had everything we needed.

favorite restaurant. norfolk's no frill bar and grill is a favorite spot for my boyfriend and me. every meal we have ever eaten there has been absolutely delicious. great choices from the menu. cool atmosphere.servicehas always been really helpful. it stays busy, but the wait is never more than 15 minutes. my boyfriend can't get enough of the norfolk hot brown. they also have a good beer selection.

great!. i went here with my family and we loved the food. we got there early around 6:30 and by 7 they were packed. i suggest you get there early and ready to be hungry. theservicewas great and the food was worth going back to again.

usual sunday spot. we tend to go to no frill bar and grill after church for the sunday brunch, and we have had about a 90% success rate. the buffalo shrimp appetizer is huge, literally they are enormous with 8 or 9 shrimp which fill a plate. the flavor is fantastic and the coating has a nice crispness to it. i get the crab cake eggs benedict, and have only had to return it once for the eggs being over poached (that wholeservicewas pretty sub-par, but i can chalk it up to a bad day). the crab cake is pretty sizeable, and the benedict is served with a tomato slice instead of the ham, which i prefer. it is also served with a sharp cheddar potato shreds (the first thing gone from my plate lol), asparagus and some fruit. the hubby usually gets the shrimp po-boy, and it is pretty huge. it's served on a 10-inch hoagie roll and is filled with lettuce, flash fried shrimp and a remoulade sauce. normal brunch runs about $30 with tip.

i have to admit i've been to no frill a few times, and it is definitely hit or miss. lately it's been the latter. the food is usually ok, but not ever amazing. theserviceis subpar, and i've had a few servers with a chip on their shoulder. once we went and were overcharged tremendously. there was a table of 8 or so near me and my husband, and our waitress mixed up our bills. when she brought our bill to the table, it was correct--$27. we gave her our debit card, and when she returned, she had run our card for nearly $100 by mistake. when i told her, she took off with our card again and charged it a second time for the $27...almost $130 in one night. naturally i wanted to speak to the manager, who said the server was busy and made a simple mistake. easy to say when it's not your money. he told us we would be refunded in 10 business days, and overall he was super apathetic, almost rude. i called the next day to get in touch with the owner, and after several attempts could not get him on the phone. finally i posted on their fb wall, and after the owner contacted me stating it was a minor mistake--nothing more--, he ended the conversation & deleted my post. dishonest, and enough to make me say that enough is enough. i think i'll pass on no frill from now on.

seasoning?. i went here with my dad for pay day. never been, and wanted some quick eats. it was a really limited menu, so i was kinda sad. we decided to get an appetizer of chicken nachos. the plate was just a huge mountain of lettuce and pico de gaillo, or however you spell that. had to get a bit rustic and take a knife and fork to get some on your plate. chicken was dry, and the cheese wasn't too flavorful. we also found a whole bay leaf in the mix. dad and i both got burgers; i got a bacon cheeseburger and he got a mushroom burger. the burgers are not seasoned at all. my dad wanted a well burger, but it was more like a medium. my fries were mushy and hard to keep down. my dad's mac 'n' cheese was very bland. the cheese was curdled and it was gritty, like it was from a cheap buffet. theserviceand atmosphere were nice, but not nice enough to try again.

another visit. just went to no frill again yesterday and ordered the steak pita. that was a heck of a great sandwich, messy, but good. pita bread with pieces, great, tasty pieces, of steak, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a great sauce. messy, but tasty. oh, and it had those crunchy oriental noodle thingies in it too. i believe on the menue it was called an asian pita. anyway, have one; you will love it.

food is well-prepared. pleasing to both the eye and the pallet. my favorite items are the burgers and the salads. warning, do not order both! you will not be able to finish. servings are generous.serviceis knowledgeable and prompt, and friendly. it is often crowded, but you only notice that while in line. it does not seem crowded once you are seated, and that is important.

my go-to restaurant for salads. no frill is fast becoming my favorite restaurant for getting amazing salads. the first time i went years ago i was delightfully surprised at the size of the salad, and i'm still consistently satisfied with the quality of their food. theserviceis excellent as well. i'm eyeing their pita wraps next, but i think i'll get through most of their salads first.
