no frill bar and grill

nothing negative to say about this place. goodbeer selection, great atmosphere. i got the french dip, which melted in my mouth, but had a nice balance of crispiness in the bread to where it wasn't soggy. my wife got the reuben, which included chopped corned beef, mixed with the sauerkraut. delicious.

we've been to no frill many times when we lived in ghent and love that we can come home with a full meal size leftovers each! the food is pretty decent, some stuff is better than others and we would definitely go back as you can see weve been there many times. service is always reallygoodthough despite them being really busy all the time! beware you may have to wait for a table but it's worth it to have agoodmeal. i will say it's very loud in there so when my grandparents came they didn't really like it, but there's nothing they can do about that. just personal preference! if you've never been, i recommend trying it!

you always know it's gonna begoodhere.. this place is a no brainer if you want to grab grab a reallygooddinner down in ghent. i recently had a team building dinner here with co-workers and man did we wreck the place.

i would say that there was about 12-14 of us having dinner on the evening we stopped in. it was a monday night and we had a waitress all to ourselves. even though our party was huge she was able to stay on top of it and had the orders coming out correctly. 1st drinks, then apps, then entree's with no problems at all. in fact i was quite impressed.

i had he meat loaf dinner which came with some onion rings on top and sides of steamed green beans and some corn bread. i have to say while the meal was delicious that the corn bread was really the star of this meal. in fact it's the best corn bread i've ever had period. i don't know what they do to it, but it's light years ahead of even my mothers cooking. reallygoodstuff indeed.

i skipped desert however the ladies that were sitting at my end of the table each had something and i snapped some pictures of those as well. they all looked delicious.

great food, great time, great company. check them out.

i had a fantastic cheesesteak for lunch here today. while the place was packed to the hilt, we were seated in about 5 minutes and service was brisk. i don't think 10 minutes passed from the time we ordered our food until it was placed in front of us. our waitress keep the tea full and followed up to make sure we had everything we needed.

favorite restaurant. norfolk's no frill bar and grill is a favorite spot for my boyfriend and me. every meal we have ever eaten there has been absolutely delicious. great choices from the menu. cool atmosphere. service has always been really helpful. it stays busy, but the wait is never more than 15 minutes. my boyfriend can't get enough of the norfolk hot brown. they also have agoodbeer selection.

a superb salmon special. this was the chalkboard special i ordered last night, and it was absolutely superb.

when asked how i wanted it cooked, i said "medium rare." my salmon filet came to me exactly the way i wanted it and then some. it was actually more rare than medium, which turned out to be a blessing and a revelation.

the color of the salmon meat was a visual feast with its bright hues of red and pink. i had almost forgotten howgoodsalmon prepared in this fashion could taste.

the salmon was incredibly succulent and juicy. the asparagus, dijon dill cream, and asiago risotto cakes served admirably as supporting players to provide a truly delectable taste combination with the salmon, and which were prepared with the appropriate degree of restraint to avoid the effect of overwhelming the salmon.

the salmon was the star of the show this evening. and it was a shining star, indeed.

dining alone, i ate at the bar, where the bar staff person provided me with first class service. the martinis i ordered were superbly crafted.

the meal i enjoyed last night is a perfect example of why i regard the no frill grill as one of the two top restaurants in the ghent section of norfolk.

neat place. i came here for lunch on a workday. the place has a very pleasant vibe to it. it's clean and comfortable. the food selection is pretty large, mostly sandwiches and salad. i got ny deli sandwich. it has rare roast beef cooked and shaved in house. it's served on rye with coleslaw and some othergoodstuff. the sandwich was huge and very fresh tasting. however, it was very under-seasoned. there was no salt at all. it's almost like they didn't season the beef. i'm not saying it was bad, it just didn't wow me. the side of beans was verygoodand obviously made from scratch. it's definitely worth a look for you and a second visit for me.

pretty cozy inside. my server was super rad and wasn't pushy at all but still quick to get the food out on time. the veggie nachos are bigger than my face so i had to take them home. coffee is reallygoodtoo, not your average seattles best. believe the hype, this place is worth it.

so many great restaurants in ghent and norfolk, but this has to be the best and most versatile. many styles of delicious food, great specials, large portions at a very reasonable price, andgoodatmosphere for a couple, family, or outing with friends. it's always a favorite for out of town guests.

good and consistant. this restaurant is consistentlygoodi've never gone and witnessed a "bad" night. wonderful generous portions!!! i take all my out of town business clients there and they love it.

i don't get it.. i know it's hugely popular. so is walmart. the line to get in can be ridiculous. i've never had a bad meal there. i've never had a particularlygoodone either though. they certainly don't offer anything worth waiting in line for but if it's a slow day and i'm bored with my usual haunts i'll eat there.

the steak, which my husband had, was ok but the veggies and potato wedges were in a lot of oil or butter. very greasy. glad i did not get the cooked spinach for a side!
overall, a decent choice in ghent

great food in a building that needs temperature control!. we were originally going to eat at one of our favorite places in norfolk (aw shucks) but were turned away due to a loss of power and a 45 minute wait before they could start cooking. we opted instead to visit no frill bar and grill. neat place with a nice menu. the drunken cheese bread was terrific and the meals, including a nice cobia fish, pierogies, and herb roasted half chicken were all outstanding. of note was the norfolk hot brown, an open faced sandwich of grilled chicken, surry ham, tomato, an ale sauce and then smothered in cheese. our 11 year old ordered it and we really did not get ample warning on the size of this thing: two to three people could have split it and been satisfied. wish we had known! service was otherwisegoodand they sat us at the last minute. one big complaint: we asked for a cool location but were seated in a section of the restaurant that was unmercifully hot (near kitchen) and i had to fan myself the entire time to keep from dripping sweat on the table. when i moved around the restaurant to use the bathroom, it became obvious that our section was the only section that had neither ceiling fans or air vents above our tables as the rest of the restaurant was quite comfortable. this could have been a great meal but for the near constant sweating of our table and it will keep us from returning during any warm weather.

i've been wanting to try this spot since moving here in late february but it's always wicked crowded. i finally got my chance tuesday after grocery shopping. hit it up right at opening. while i wasn't impressed with my turkey melt (takeout) i wasn't giving up. heading back today between busy times for a sit down with my husband. i couldn't decide and ended up with ribs. they weren't the best. frankie's is better but the baked beans were good. the awesome part was my husband's norfolk brown. that was so dang delectable! it comes out looking like a pile of cheddar but it's so much more than that. i'll probably get that next time. it comes with 2 sides. he picked the cold pasta salad (awesome) and potato cheddar gratin (not too bad). the portions are huge so if you and your dining partner like the same thing, i'd recommend sharing. we also had the drunken cheese bread as an appetizer (again, awesome) and 4 layer coconut cake. i won't order that again. it tasted as if it was 4 days past it's prime. the cake was terribly dry but from the frosting it seemed to have potential. it's probably just asgoodas the norfolk brown. when it's fresh.

great place!. this is one of norfolks finer dining establishment.s if you wantgoodquality food at a very reasonable price then this is the place for you. it has a wonderful inviting atmosphere. the wait staff are very friendly and do their utmost to ensure your dining experience is a delight. the bar staff are also very friendly and if you like craft beer, they carry a few from a local norfolk brewery as well as one of my favorites, the alagash white. the food is not only delicious but it comes in a quantity not often found in a restaurant of this quality. unless you are really hungry, forgo appetizers or you will be taking home a doggy bag! my wife and i make this one of our regular outings and never fail to be impressed!
