no frill bar and grill

great lunch!. i stopped by the no frill bar and grill for lunch. finding thisplaceisn't as easy at seems with all the one way streets in the ghent area. however i succeeded. upon entering i was hit with a great smell of fresh cooking. theplaceis very clean and lively. the interior was decorated very nicely with lots of original art on the walls. we were greeted and seated by a very nice hostess who took our drink orders immediately and left us to check out the menu. the menu is well thought out with lots for every taste. they have a great selection of sandwiches. i was attracted to the club sandwich, as always. but this time i was intrigued because they use pastrami instead of ham on their club. i have never seen that before. so i ordered the club on multi-grain with fries and an iced tea. the food came out very quickly. presentation was very nice. my sandwich was plated evenly, and i was glad to see cut correctly and traditionally in four triangles. the bread was freshly toasted and had great body. the lettuce and tomato were crisp and cold, the mayo was creamy and not smothering, the turkey was fresh sliced and very tasty, the real star i must say though was the pastrami! delicious! it was salty, slow cooked flavor was the perfect compliment to this club. i was impressed with the idea and will most likely be stealing it for my own from now on. the fries were crinkle cut variety (bonus), they were cooked perfectly and golden. my iced tea was cold and refreshing, and definitely brewed today. our server was fast efficient and friendly. we even had a nice table visit by the manager who was really friendly and shared some history with us about no frill bar and grill. it wasn't to loud or cold. it was very pleasant. this is a greatplaceto take lunch, or bring a client for a meeting. i recommend no frill bar and grill. i will be back. nicely done no frill!

yummmm. this is my favorite bar/grill in norfolk. the hubby isnt as fond of it for dinner since the best food items are salads, burgers, sandwiches, etc but it is teh greatestplaceto go for lunch!

no thrill at no frill !. once thought this was a greatplaceto eat - no longer. our main course came out only 5 minutes after our apps. food was not hot when they brought it and server could not have cared less. so many other great choices in ghent - suggest you pass no frill by and move on to a more relaxed pace meal elsewhere.

excellentplaceto eat usually busy . but the food no matter how busy is usually timely which amazes me and it's wonderful ! full of flavor ! one thing that gets my goat however is the bathrooms . when the restaurant is full there's almost always a wait . it's annoying especially when you just need to wash you hands ! other than that no complaints:)

after reading reviews very excited.  not so much after eating there.  corn bread nondescript.  drunken cheese bread was passable, but tasted too much onion.  the crabcake sandwich  tasted like crab meat put in a blender with lots of filler.  the pasta salad was dry, and no flavor.....which seemed to be a theme in all the dishes.  the service was fantastic, the staff very friendly.  plenty of parking, but all full even though the restaurant when we arrived only had about 8 other patrons.  to be honest not aplacei will go to again.

essential eating. livelyplacewith great food. a must try if you live near norfolk. the parking lot is kinda small and cramped and surrounded by a couple of one-way streets so navigating to a parking spot can be difficult on a busy night.

hampton road favorite. as a local this is always a go to restaurant. the food is consistently outstanding. atmosphere is up beat and lively. service has always been wonderful. you cannot go wrong with any of their salads and sandwiches. their homemade salad dressings are always tasty and give thisplacean advantage. i love their pierogi appetizer, esp. when it's served with freshly chopped bacon. if you still have any room, or if you have kids, go for the ice cream and chocolate chip cookie dessert, another favorite. thisplaceknows about running a high quality restaurant, and it shows.

best food ever!. we have been eating at the no frill grill for over 10 years. this is the bestplacefor anything they have on the menu. their sandwiches are to die for. i really enjoy the "spotswood special". there is no sandwich like it anywhere that i am aware of. the portions are always huge, the staff is friendly and effecient and the prices are reasonable. i cannot wait to go back again.

you always know it's gonna be good here.. thisplaceis a no brainer if you want to grab grab a really good dinner down in ghent. i recently had a team building dinner here with co-workers and man did we wreck the place.

i would say that there was about 12-14 of us having dinner on the evening we stopped in. it was a monday night and we had a waitress all to ourselves. even though our party was huge she was able to stay on top of it and had the orders coming out correctly. 1st drinks, then apps, then entree's with no problems at all. in fact i was quite impressed.

i had he meat loaf dinner which came with some onion rings on top and sides of steamed green beans and some corn bread. i have to say while the meal was delicious that the corn bread was really the star of this meal. in fact it's the best corn bread i've ever had period. i don't know what they do to it, but it's light years ahead of even my mothers cooking. really good stuff indeed.

i skipped desert however the ladies that were sitting at my end of the table each had something and i snapped some pictures of those as well. they all looked delicious.

great food, great time, great company. check them out.

i had a fantastic cheesesteak for lunch here today. while theplacewas packed to the hilt, we were seated in about 5 minutes and service was brisk. i don't think 10 minutes passed from the time we ordered our food until it was placed in front of us. our waitress keep the tea full and followed up to make sure we had everything we needed.

neat place. i came here for lunch on a workday. theplacehas a very pleasant vibe to it. it's clean and comfortable. the food selection is pretty large, mostly sandwiches and salad. i got ny deli sandwich. it has rare roast beef cooked and shaved in house. it's served on rye with coleslaw and some other good stuff. the sandwich was huge and very fresh tasting. however, it was very under-seasoned. there was no salt at all. it's almost like they didn't season the beef. i'm not saying it was bad, it just didn't wow me. the side of beans was very good and obviously made from scratch. it's definitely worth a look for you and a second visit for me.

new kids in town ;). my husband and i just moved here and are on a mission to find new cool places to eat and hang out, and we found thisplaceon urbanspoon and just winged it. and it really worked for us. i had the seafood trilogy and my husband had the salmon blt. it was busy but the wait wasn't terrible. and we can't really blame them for being busy because they have really great food!!! my crab cake was yummy, my catfish was tasty and the rice was cooked perfectly. and props to the cook for getting my husband to eat cucumber! and our waitress was a sweetheart! when they were out of the dessert we wanted she recommended thisplacecalled "skinny dip" which we also loved!! our experience definitely guaranteed us as return customers :) keep up the great work

pretty cozy inside. my server was super rad and wasn't pushy at all but still quick to get the food out on time. the veggie nachos are bigger than my face so i had to take them home. coffee is really good too, not your average seattles best. believe the hype, thisplaceis worth it.

salad!!. thisplacehas the most incredible, outstanding salad i've ever had anywhere, hands down. it's the teriyaki sesame tuna salad, i order tuna cooked rare. it comes on a mountain of colorful vegetables and the whole thing is extremely generous, enough for lunch the next day. i've turned my husband onto it too; it's the only thing we both order whenever we go. i don't really know or care about what else they serve.

soggy. friday night dinner, sadly disappointing. reuben greasy, fries soggy, tuna on salad pale and unappetizing, hummus app tasty but served with greasy whatevers. waiter brought another order of fries as we were finished eating, not soggy but too late and why can't they make fresh fries and not use frozen.placehad an odor, unpleasant.

great food in a building that needs temperature control!. we were originally going to eat at one of our favorite places in norfolk (aw shucks) but were turned away due to a loss of power and a 45 minute wait before they could start cooking. we opted instead to visit no frill bar and grill. neatplacewith a nice menu. the drunken cheese bread was terrific and the meals, including a nice cobia fish, pierogies, and herb roasted half chicken were all outstanding. of note was the norfolk hot brown, an open faced sandwich of grilled chicken, surry ham, tomato, an ale sauce and then smothered in cheese. our 11 year old ordered it and we really did not get ample warning on the size of this thing: two to three people could have split it and been satisfied. wish we had known! service was otherwise good and they sat us at the last minute. one big complaint: we asked for a cool location but were seated in a section of the restaurant that was unmercifully hot (near kitchen) and i had to fan myself the entire time to keep from dripping sweat on the table. when i moved around the restaurant to use the bathroom, it became obvious that our section was the only section that had neither ceiling fans or air vents above our tables as the rest of the restaurant was quite comfortable. this could have been a great meal but for the near constant sweating of our table and it will keep us from returning during any warm weather.
