munchies 420 cafe

better than i expected. after reading the other mostly older reviews i expected slow service. i walked in, went over to a table and watched who i assumed was my server talk to the bartender for several minutes and then leave the room. after waiting toolongdue to how i read the other reviews, i finally found my way to the counter where you need to place your order for food. the person i thought was my server was a food runner. don’t make my mistake, make your way to where the order here/pay here sign hangs.

so, it turned out service wasn’t so bad, i was just suffering from first visit confusion. the person who took my order said it would take about 15 minutes and that was about howlongit took before she brought the food out to me. aslongas i know it will take a little longer than i would expect when i place my order, i’m ok.

i ordered something called fat mike, listed as two cheeseburgers with some toppings. again i assumed wrong and thought what they really meant was two patties on a cheeseburger. boy was i surprised when it came out looking like a monster burrito, a hefty cylinder of food wrapped in foil. i decided against trying to tackle it at the restaurant, i’d already spent too much time at munchies, so i took it home. it was a large and messy to eat sandwich, and in hindsight i should have eaten it like a burrito by unwrapping it as i ate. each half of this sandwich was in effect a cheeseburger. aside from having potato pieces inside my sandwich, i thought it was very good, and much more food than i needed tonight.

it was early when i stopped in, at least early munchies time, and was not very busy. this is not a bright shiny place, more like a dark older establishment where much of the lighting came from the tvs and some christmas lights. i was inside but there is much more seating outside and in what looked like a tiki bar. to me, munchies seemed more like a bar with food instead of a restaurant with drinks, but they also seemed to do a healthy takeout business, so perhaps food is their main purpose. either way, it was an interesting visit and better than i expected.

this place had such alongwait the place is dirty and nasty it seemed like the place was made in 1456 the food is also nasty they say they have fries on their sandwiches but i only had one greesy fry

awful place. this place was honestly..awful. i went with a group of friends because they had seen it on man vs food. let me tell you, the place looks dirty, there are barely any places to sit, the wait time for us was an hourlongand one of our friends had to wait even longer. the bathrooms are in the back of the place, you have to walk around the building into an alley and then you find their bathrooms which are dirty and rigged weird, one of the doors was held by a bungee cord..come on. i mean, you'd think with all the money and hype this place gets that they'd hire more people and fix the place but damn, this place is awful. the food was also mediocre. it was like food you eat at a carnival or something. the only plus to this place is that its open so late, other than that you might as well eat at mcdonalds, because theres nothing special about munchies.

the drawbacks of this place are that the food does take quite a while to come out, and the indoor seating is very minimal. when we ordered, we were told that we'd have to wait 40 minutes for our food. while i think it was actually more like 30 minutes, that's still quite alongtime to wait for one sandwich. but as it was a saturday night, the place was packed and people were picking up carry-out orders by the dozen. inside, there are only 3 booths and a few stools at bars on either side of the entryway. while plenty of picnic tables are available outside, they're in direct sunlight as the sun is setting. we waited about 10 minutes there, before the heat drove us around the corner to sit at one of the nearby ice cream shop

more than disappointed.... just horrible. always a fan of food tv shows that show extraordinary food but this place was just a joke... even everyone else that walked in you would hear them say "what the hell".....

walked in, nobody in sight for 12 minutes (yes 12).. she comes out.. takes order...

15 mins later i get:

probably the crappiest chicken tenders "cisco" sells that have been sitting in a warmer for days, burger from a bag probably, onion rings from a bag, fries from a bag, on bread thats too old.. but the mac and cheese on top was good!!!

fries had been sitting in a warmer maybe days, even got the one that sat there a few orders in a row (crusted in salt)

other sandwich was also chicken tenders (u can tell they had been sitting in that warmer alonglong while as they had dark brown area's like plastic.. where it cooked and cooked and cooked and became basically plastic.. u had to spit them out when you bit down...everything about other sandwich was horrible as well.

if you want to get food that you could also buy at walmart at 2am and 95% unless your a paraplegic without a stove cook better.. i would never visit this restaurant regardless of what anyone else says...

i drove an hour to visit, and i would go as far to say if i lived a block away and a friend was paying, i still would not take him up on the offer.


perks: mac and cheese was good, and they had dr pepper in their fountain drink machine..

take your own pepto. infamous for their "fat" sandwiches, which in thelongrun will just give you diarrhea and lovehandles, this place has become a staple in sarasota's culture. delivery is unreliable and could leave you waiting for hours, but takeout is a good alternative. if you shop at whole foods, you probably won't step within 20 feet of this place. beware, your stomach will be tortured - but the food still might be worth it to some.

overall...very disappointing. we visited munchies 420 cafe recently on a saturday night and based on my experiences i had to write a review. arriving around 9:00pm we were pretty hungry and hoped munchies could fix that. our first impression was the size of the establishment, its quite small...the pinball machine in there takes up about a quarter of the waiting area! we were greeted by a very nice lady behind the counter that took our order. i had ordered the garbage philly and my fiancee ordered thelongbranch chicken sandwich. at this point we were still hopeful for a delicious meal, but things changed quickly...

as we were waiting for our food, we made observations like them stating things were made to order and asking patrons to be patient. about 15 mins in, the very nice lady in the front was replaced by a very rude man in the front. a group of what looked like tourists came in and wanted to do the wing challenge but this guy gave every reason in the book for them not to do it and suggested they order a bunch of other stuff instead. now back to the waiting. let me tell you, the wait was absolutely ridiculous....it took nearly 1 hour for us to get our food. and we counted only 6 orders before ours! this was worst than waiting for chinese on new years eve! when we left, the people that ordered after us were still waiting for their food; which was only 20 wings.....over an hour for 20 wings!?

now on to the food....i was very disappointed in my philly steak. it definitely was a decent size for a sandwich but quality of the ingredients were poor. the beef itself wasn't too bad. the bread on the other hand was slightly stale, but what got me were these nasty rubbery canned mushrooms! i know they're only mushrooms, but i was stunned to find any restaurant using anything canned...this is as far from quality and fresh you can get. the chicken sandwich wasn't any better...my fiancee took one bit and asked for some mcdonalds afterwards, literally. the size of the sandwich was very small and again the ingredients were poor. the chicken patty looked like it was one of those half-chicken half-filler type chicken patties. the one good thing about our meal was the small bag of homemade chips we got. we ate the chips and sadly the sandwiches ended up in the garbage. if you have the "munchies" you're better off at your local 7-11.

this is tough, since i really wanted to like this place. but there were just too many negatives to recommend it. i did really like thelongbranch burger; it was very tasty. but others in my party were disappointed in their food. the fat sandwiches were anything but, with barely any toppings and a lukewarm temperature. some of the other items (rings and wings) seemed like they were hours old and just sitting under a heat lamp all day. service was terrible; i take that back, service was nonexistent. the place is tiny; we knew that going in, but they really do need more of a seating area. and the day we were there, it was filthy. so while the burger was very good, there are just too many other problems to make it worth the trip. these things can be fixed, so i will watch future reviews and hope that they do indeed fix them. good luck!
