mojo no.4, urban bbq whiskey bar

food wasgoodnot great!. hoping to get some down home bbq, i was a little disappointed. the portions were okay, but the bbq was bland. the french fries were okay, but the blackeyed peas were ineatible. prices were very high for what was served.

two of us returned on a whim, i got the brisket reuben, she got the grilled pimento cheese sandwich (i know, what the...). both were a-mazing! they make their own pimento cheese, and it was a homer (miracle whip is my guess at the "secret ingredient"). rebeun was stacked high and very tasty.

three of us went there opening day
the food: we split the sloppy mojo, the blfgc, and the shrimp and grits, after we wolfed down the rib tips (image knuckle between teeth, "oh my!"). while the s&gs weregoodto adequate, the other two rocked! as mojo #1 regulars, we branched out on our opening foray, hitting the new and odd stuff. they worked.

the portions: we took home about a meal and half, even after leaving some sides on the table.

the place: very cool, nice bar, and the smoker in the dining area is a great touch. like the open porch dining, hope the weather holds!

cheer wine: in glass, with real cane sugar. makes your teeth hurt good.

we'll be back to try the "usual" and every thing else on the menu.

mojo's !!. nice place ..goodservice ..goodprices .. easy to get in and out. wish they played more blues. black eyed peas and collard greens and corn bread cannot be beat !! the dry rubbed ribs are to die for. nice bar with lots of whiskey to sample.

first time here in jacksonville and actually first time in this side of the country. i had to try somegoodbbq. this place was great. my girl friend and i split "the whole hog" which was a big platter of all the different meats. of definitely suggest it if you'd like to try a little bit of everything. i loved all of the food but i was impressed with the pulled pork and the turkey! oh and the setting is really nice! super clean and very classy place!

great bbq, even better whiskey bar. the shrimp and grits packed a punch.goodsized portions. outdoor seating and live music. always nice when your in avondale.

i'm not a big bbq foodie, but did think the bbq here was some of the best i've eaten. verygoodservice as well.

decent place. 8 of us went for lunch today. it was decent. i like the sauces. to me, unless it's bad bbq than it's all the same. this was asgoodas anywhere else i've been. like others said though it is noisy. i had pulled pork, collards (bland) and garlic cheese grits. one funny thing was i paid in cash and the waiter brought me bills only and not any coins for change. i pointed that out to him and said that's fine because it was going to be part of his tip anyway and he replied "oh i don't carry any change." huh? so you just keep everyone's coins off their bill? lol. i'd go back to mojo's for another lunch anytime.

fair food great music. i have heard about this place for along time now. so tonight one of my favorite bands were playing here so why not. i got there and the place was packed and very loud. you weren't going to talk across the table tonight. i decided to try some of the bbq fair. i did the burnt ends and some rings. now the burnt end should be very tender being the point part of the brisket. you smoke the brisket cut off the point and chunk it up and throw it back into the smoke. well they didn't. i think they used the flat which is the less fatty part. it is not as tender and tends to dry out pretty quickly. the rings were prettygoodand so was the dipping sauce. the breading was a little thick for me but then that's why they make chocolate ice cream. everyone don't like vanilla. the band rocked as they usually do. so in all i think i will return but it will probably be when the firewater tent revival is playing again.

great bbq and booze!. i love whiskey and i love meat. so you cant beat this combo.

burnt ends and hummus appetizers are both terrific. ive also had the onion rings which were good, as all homemade onion rings are typically. ive tried the majority of the smoked meats and they have all beengoodwhich the exception of the chicken which wasnt the best ive had. top sides are the mac, the collards and the dirty rice. ive also had a burger here which was wonderful. really enjoyed the ambiance here as well, we typically sit at the bar and all the guys really know their stuff. a great bbq experience.

as other reviews stated, it is too noisy inside the restaurant. we sat outside because of this. the food was a little pricey but very good. the fried tomato appetizer was the best i've ever had. the pulled pork was verygoodand there are a lot ofgoodsides to choose from. we will be back.

nice addition to avondale. we've been to mojo no 4 a handfull of times. the service does vary by server, but i've not yet had "bad" service there. it ranges from adequate to stellar. the food quality has been consistent, and consistently good. the portions are large and fairly priced. the inside of the restaurant does tend to get loud, and uncomfortably so. we prefer to sit outside on busy nights. it's not a bad thing per se, just something to be aware of if you're heading there on a friday night.

i was apprehensive about mojo moving into the neighborhood due to the size of the restaurant and the parking situation. and although i don't live immediately adjacent to the avondale shops, i'd say my fears were overblown, and i think mojo no 4 has been agoodaddition to the neighborhood.

if i had one suggestion, it would be for mojo to source its meats from suppliers that offer humanely raised and harvested animals. if they are already, then advertise that fact. if they are not yet doing so, it would be nice to at least see some items on the menu meeting that criteria, so as to give patrons a choice. i prefer to purchase meats from local farmers that practice sustainable farming practices and humane treatment of animals during their raising and ultimate harvest.

yes, i understand some of you don't give a $#!+ about that, but i do, and i would be more likely to choose mojo no 4 as a dining destination if they had more humane options for their bbq products.

oh show me the way to this whiskey bar. i've done the martini thing, had my fill of margaritas....the older i get, the more i just simply desire straight glass of well-crafted whiskey (with a bit of ginger ale...to keep me honest).

since i'm being honest, i never order the meals. the best thing on the menu is the burnt brisket ends appetizer. that with some collard greens splashed with their vinegar-bases bbq sauce is all this girl needs to make her happy.
what can i say? i'm easy. give me some well-made bbq and agooddrink. mojos delivers on both.
