great service! we did not have reservations on a friday evening and was seated within 20 minutes. but i would definitely recommend reservations because it is a small dining area and you're wait would be longer. the waiter was very knowledgable and gavegreatrecommendations. the guacamole was perfect! i ordered the salmon that came with their famous lima beans. they were good but i'll definitely try something else next time i go!

my husband and i stopped in louisville for dinner on our way to indianapolis. we wanted a unique, locally owned meal and we got lucky! we didn't have a reservation, but there was a free table so we were able to be seated immediately. we were travelling so we didn't imbibe. we started with the sikil pak appetizer: roasted pumpkins seed dip--it was delicious. for the entrees, i ordered the spaghetti squash toss which was delightful with the green molé, golden beets, squash, black beans, and shiitake mushrooms. my husband ordered the striped bass with red sauce served over over rice and it was absolutely phenomenal! the service wasgreatand we are very happy with the overall experience.

delicious from start to finish. very nice meal at mayan cafe last evening! we started with an appetizer whose name i cannot recall that was a dip made from pumpkin seeds, served with tortilla chips.greatdepth of flavor yet not too heavy. for our entrees, my wife and i both had the pork loin which was served with an open-faced tamale and with a side of their famous lima beans. the pork was lean and juicy and topped with pickled onions, which were agreatcontrast to the pork and really helped to set off the entire dish. the lima beans are absolutely delicious - if your entree does not come with these, i would suggest getting an order as a side. our son had the mayan burger (hey, he's only six), which he managed to devour - this was served with a side of fried plantain chips - nicely done and not greasy. for dessert, we shared a bread pudding which came with a side of avacado ice cream - both were nicely executed. for drinks, my wife and i each had two local craft beers and we slit a glass of bourbon with dessert. our son had a glass of grapefruit soda which very nicely done. all in all, a very nice meal for about $120 including tax + tip.

dinner was at mayan cafe, a place both of us had never been and had gottengreatreviews. i chose a restaurant that was new and trendy, and also was good about meeting dietary requests so i knew i’d be able to eat something delicious but not upsetting to my stomach. and it was truly one of the best meals i’ve had – jc said one of the best he’s ever had in louisville!

vday meal. my boyfriend and i went here for valentine's day meal. we always celebrate vday the day before the actual holiday to avoid crowds. anyway, i had the salmon and he had the chicken with a side of fried cactus, which was excellent! that was my first time having it. this was our first time going and we had agreattime. they make nice strong cocktails as well. this place is slightly pricy and small, but the food, drink, and service was excellent. i would definitely recommend it.

i posted without finishing my review! so part 2... the smoked chicken taquitos, vegetarian burrito, plantains, and cochinita were perfect. only two small missteps my egg was not cooked over medium as requested but was replaced graciously very quickly and the winter salad was lacking a touch of vinegar. an excellent apple crumble ended our meal on a perfect note. i would be more than happy to return to the mayan cafe!

it's all about your tastes. originally i wasn't a fan because i ordered a dish that was more like mini tapas for lunch and the 4 tastes i chose to mix did not mix well. i have been back though and discovered they have a really tasty burger and fries that hasgreatflavor and is worth coming back. i won't venture far from that item on the menu, but who needs to when you know what tastes perfect to you. i was however tempted with last weeks lunch feature.

fantastic, fresh, and original. we have eaten at mayan café twice in the last couple of months, and both times the food was outstanding. local and seasonal ingredients, prepared with skill and love, andgreatservice add up to a fine dining experience.
we have ordered off the regular menu and from the daily specials, and every dish has been wonderful. this is a louisville original that we hope to revisit often.

oh. my. gosh.. one of the most amazing meals i've ever eaten.greatwine selection. we had the mole of the day and salmon. both entrees were delicious. the mole of the day happened to be scallops, fried plantains, and asparagus tonight. (fried plantains were amazing.) everything was perfect, including the buñuelos, chocolate mousse tart, and mayan coffee.
