delicious from start to finish. very nice meal at mayancafelast evening! we started with an appetizer whose name i cannot recall that was a dip made from pumpkin seeds, served with tortilla chips. great depth of flavor yet not too heavy. for our entrees, my wife and i both had the pork loin which was served with an open-faced tamale and with a side of their famous lima beans. the pork was lean and juicy and topped with pickled onions, which were a great contrast to the pork and really helped to set off the entire dish. the lima beans are absolutely delicious - if your entree does not come with these, i would suggest getting an order as a side. our son had the mayan burger (hey, he's only six), which he managed to devour - this was served with a side of fried plantain chips - nicely done and not greasy. for dessert, we shared a bread pudding which came with a side of avacado ice cream - both were nicely executed. for drinks, my wife and i each had two local craft beers and we slit a glass of bourbon with dessert. our son had a glass of grapefruit soda which very nicely done. all in all, a very nice meal for about $120 including tax + tip.

i posted without finishing my review! so part 2... the smoked chicken taquitos, vegetarian burrito, plantains, and cochinita were perfect. only two small missteps my egg was not cooked over medium as requested but was replaced graciously very quickly and the winter salad was lacking a touch of vinegar. an excellent apple crumble ended our meal on a perfect note. i would be more than happy to return to the mayan cafe!

fantastic, fresh, and original. we have eaten at mayan café twice in the last couple of months, and both times the food was outstanding. local and seasonal ingredients, prepared with skill and love, and great service add up to a fine dining experience.
we have ordered off the regular menu and from the daily specials, and every dish has been wonderful. this is a louisville original that we hope to revisit often.

guardian 5. the mayancafehas now earned the status of being my favorite restaurant in louisville. the experience is taste on a multi-dimensional level. each food selection is layered with taste. the quality of the products used in the production of the menu items underpins the exceptional tastes that you will experience. the portion sizes are also unique in that they are perfectly sized. the portion size and the tastes are in harmonic balance with one another . the discipline of the staff is embodied in every appetizer, every entree', and every beverage. the hidden secret of the mayan isthe lunch menu. the beef burrito is truly the result of divine inspiration. i have traveled the world and have never had such a pleasant meal as the beef burrito with a side of lima beans (the lima beans are a must). the mayancafeis not the fanciest nor the most expensive restaurant in louisville, it is however, my favorite and i believe the best.

service. i had dinner at mayancafelast night. the ambiance was nice and the food was good (although a bit under seasoned). but i was mostly annoyed by the over ambitious water boy, who kept refilling our water every time i took a sip. he kept checking on us and nervously bounced back and forth past our table. i like attentive staff, but there should be a balance and the diner should be able to be left alone to enjoy the food and company.

under rated. the mayancafeis one of louisville's best kept dining secrets with a fresh, eclectic menu with authentic food, including cactus. highly recommend stopping by for lunch and trying the salbutes!

i don't know what the problem with "crescent m." is,. but mayancafeis delicious and i have only experienced wonderful service. it's exactly this entitlement--what place, outside of mcdonald's, is going to give away food with no promise of profit--that drives local, unique, and much-loved restaurants into the ground. and using urbanspoon as some kind of blackmail leverage is rude and undercuts the spirit of the place.

score one for urbanspoon! after the mayancafewouldn't honor their own coupon for a free dessert, i told the manager that i was posting that decision on this website. well guess what. the dessert was free after all. please, mayan, no more "typos" on your coupons!

what a rip off! we were sent a coupon for a free dessert with a ticket to actors' theatre, but guess what--now that we are here, we have been told that the coupon is only good with the purchase of an entree. just who orders an entree after a show?

amazing!. mayancafeis my favorite restaurant in the city! this is where everyone in my family wants to come for their birthday!
everything on the menu is divine and made from the freshest ingredients. the owners buy local as much as possible and support our farmers' markets throughout the year. the pork and always popular lima beans are not to be missed!
