service was very slow, also mixed up the orders so had to wait longer. prices were a little on the high side for thefoodyou get. good place to try but will not be back.

very goodfoodin a strange little physical facility. not really sure how else to categorize that. if you're looking for authentic mayan fare, it's hard to find it better executed than here; and the service is very very good too.

i like it but....service andfoodare everything. and they failed miserably today.....service was terrible from server to busser to hostess... we had 1:00 pm reservation, receivedfoodat 2:00 p.m. apps were good but slow and too much time in between. i ordered med well mayan burger that was presented blood red including the bun, server presented the wrong drink, no one spoke to us or made eye contact to any of us....we were seated directly in front of stations and had to ask for refills, help with thefoodand the check-- no offer of the desserts, let alone any special preps for the day.. i had invited foodies from cleveland, oh and was very embarressed by the experience. the mayan stew needed salt which we couldn't find a server/hostess/busser/anybody to bring the other items lacked something but better service would have changed the experience. the place, at late lunch time is very loud (they were busy, good for them!) but they not only missed the marks -- we will not visit again soon.

seriously amazing! went there tonight for valentines day and was amazed by how great thefoodwas! also the service was too notch! such a great time for a special day.

service and menu is top notch!. my experiences at this place have been so pleasant; not just because thefoodis so impeccably amazing, but because the staff here are so thoughtful and generous.
the burger is out of this world and the guacamole is something tasty!
i tried their cocktails for the first time the other night and was not surprised by their greatness....

make sure to call for a reservation- this place is kind of big deal and it has a small, intimate layout. the venue may be small, but it has a lot to offer; which makes it louisville's best kept secret.

fantastic, fresh, and original. we have eaten at mayan café twice in the last couple of months, and both times thefoodwas outstanding. local and seasonal ingredients, prepared with skill and love, and great service add up to a fine dining experience.
we have ordered off the regular menu and from the daily specials, and every dish has been wonderful. this is a louisville original that we hope to revisit often.

some of the bestfood& service. so, i know that i've reviewed this place before. however, i've eaten at mayan a number of times since that review, and every time i can't help but think that my original review didn't do this restaurant justice. every time we eat here we get a fantastic meal served to us by some of the best staff in the city. they really know how to be there when you need a drink and make sure you enjoy your meal, without being all over you. our last visit was a lucky break at getting in on a walk in. they didn't even blink, just worked the tables and ~15 minutes later we are happily sitting at one of our favorite tables in the city. a must try!

well worth the money. sure you can walk out having dropped a lot of cash here, but you aren't going to leave disappointed. it's not often that i have a meal as pleasing as i get from mayan cafe. theirfoodis art but has the tastes and smells to take you away to central america, if only until you walk back out onto market st. a wonderful place for a date.

guardian 5. the mayan cafe has now earned the status of being my favorite restaurant in louisville. the experience is taste on a multi-dimensional level. eachfoodselection is layered with taste. the quality of the products used in the production of the menu items underpins the exceptional tastes that you will experience. the portion sizes are also unique in that they are perfectly sized. the portion size and the tastes are in harmonic balance with one another . the discipline of the staff is embodied in every appetizer, every entree', and every beverage. the hidden secret of the mayan isthe lunch menu. the beef burrito is truly the result of divine inspiration. i have traveled the world and have never had such a pleasant meal as the beef burrito with a side of lima beans (the lima beans are a must). the mayan cafe is not the fanciest nor the most expensive restaurant in louisville, it is however, my favorite and i believe the best.

service. i had dinner at mayan cafe last night. the ambiance was nice and thefoodwas good (although a bit under seasoned). but i was mostly annoyed by the over ambitious water boy, who kept refilling our water every time i took a sip. he kept checking on us and nervously bounced back and forth past our table. i like attentive staff, but there should be a balance and the diner should be able to be left alone to enjoy thefoodand company.

lima beans are fabulous;. okay, you wouldn't think it but i read they were great...we finished a dinner of salad, beef, wine and were waiting for our desert when we remembered. so glad. everything has such unusual flavors and pairings that work. love the localfoodconnections.
