good cheap food, but the older fellow is too rude!. we have been there a few times..the food is pretty good. especially the dosa, vada, idli etc. thebuffetis nothing spectacular...it looks like the food has been sitting there for some time. the younger guy is really good, but his dad (?) is very rude, overcharges and treats the serving staff bad! overall good food, but not a comfortable s

kerala style gem. on a tip from a work acquaintance, we discovered masalaz last night, and immediately enjoyed the family ambience of the small strip-mall restaurant. more of a neighbourhood cafe, we were quite impressed with the range of prepared-on-site dishes. friendly staff were ready to knowledgeably discuss and recommend dishes to fit our dietary requirements: gluten-free and vegan. we each had thebuffet- selecting platefuls of delightfully spicy dishes, rice and condiments; concluded the meal with an interesting masala (potato and onion) dosa. inexpensive and and good value. highly recommended.

summin it up. i'd like to sum up the varying reviews here and say that when the food at masalaz is fresh, it's delicious. we've eaten here a number of times and found it tasty and the prices good. tastes like good south indian home cookin'!

but when (like today) thebuffetseems to have been sitting there for a long time, it is mediocre - and, it took a long time for them to serve the dosas.

also, the place could really use a good cleaning. ah, well:)

the owner has to be the rudest and ill mannered person i've ever come across. although, he was nice to us he was absolutely horrendous to the staff working there. we went on a sunday and it was quite busy but the owner or his son did not want to help the poor girl working there. if you know its going to be busy hire another person. the owner didnt even bother checking on the food. his sole job was to humiliate the help who ever so patiently was putting up with it. will not return. i hope that lovely girl finds another job. i'm appalled!

it's not bad place. abuffetof south indian and carribean food for $9.99 which consists of about seven dishes. but the owner let us know that they were out of two. what was really awkward was that the owner kept staring at us the whole time we were there. overall, 2.5/5 imo.

masalaz. i lived next to this restaurant for over a year before dicovering its delicious eats. it is a family run eatery with friendly atmosphere. there chicken bryani is totally delicous and very reasonbly priced. it is spicy and full of flavour just wonderful. i highly reccomend the somosa's with the tamirind sauce excellent. they have abuffetmost nights of the week for a great price. like 12 to 14 dollars a person. a hidden gem in culinary gastronomics.
