not really from durban, looked around zomato and found this place...what a find! despite the unrelenting rain, we had a very speedy and scrumptious breakfast (the full-on and salmon are highly recommended!). staff super friendly and attentive!

the only outstanding thing about the place was the beautiful, sometwhat remote destination and decor! the day i happened to pop by had some live music, which to my tastes wasn't very lively. all in all, this was a very average experience.

what a nice surprise! excellent find. great vibe, fantastic food, excellent service. had such a good time with friends. will definitely keep coming back.

the setting of this restaurant is truly amazing, the food however was highly disappointing. i had the bone marrow starter -felt quite ill; the prawn starter was also medicore. lamb burger would have probably tasted better had my palate not been spoiled by the starters. service...hmm we barely got any.

everyone always raves about market! one of my besties swears by it, so when my favorite restaurant was having an event for my birthday we decided to give this place another try (being only mildly impressed by it some years ago).

reservations were made and we were given a table inside, on arrival we realized that it was a lovely night and would maybe like to dine outside. however the staff weren't too helpful. nonetheless we took our seat inside, our waiter not even introducing himself. needless to say his attitude throughout the night was pretty much the same. we had to continuously enquire about stuff and he didn't even know what 'sq' meant ?. even made a huge fuss about table settings because we had two less people at our party so removed the extra table to be closer to one another, saying we not allowed to do that.

anyway, the food was excellent, everyone enjoyed their meals thoroughly and so we have no fault there. definitely a lovely place but not so lovely to be served by indifferent staff.

i would return but not in the near future!

so keen to come here however we experienced the following:
food took an hour and a half
full breakfast was underwhelming and under seasoned.
pasta came with no cream and had to request this after the food came.
coffee came cold, 2nd round of coffees took an hour.
definitely no bang for your buck here.

the vibe and setup impressed but the food disappointed. starters were great but the mains were meh! they had to redo the duck breast because we couldn't cut through the first one. lamb rack wasn't much better, very sinewy, couldn't even separate it.

delicious food and excellent setting. butternut, bacon and cheese penne with pine nuts. wow. eat here as soon as you have the chance.

the menu is a little whacky but filled with great options.

it would be great if the menu had more options to choose from. burger options in light meals and full meal...seemed redundant

we took my mom in law out for her birthday and i thought of market cafenin marriott road. we were wowed! to say the least! it has a very classical yet comfortable outdoor vibe with a mix of people! we thoroughly enjoyed the live jazz band! so much so that my husband danced with the singer uninvited! it was a sight to see and one of those moments you enjoy so much and forget to capture it on film.
i give it 5 stars! the service was excellent! very attentive and friendly servers! there was a wide variety of wine options which is always good! my mom in law and i went with the durbanville hills merlot! we were going to just have a glass each and then decided to just get the whole bottle! it was delish! my hubby went with his favourite jack black craft beer! he was so happy that i found a place that serves craft beer!
then came the menu, a delectable variety of choices. mom and law and i had the chicken and pesto pasta which was amazing and my husband chose the pork belly with veggies! we were all more than satisfied with the portion sizes and flavours that tantalised our taste buds! we look forward to our next dining experience there. i have to try the sirloin steak next time and hubby wants to try the prawn and chorizo pasta dish!

i recently visited market to catch up with friends for breakfast. the manger was inattentive and disinterested. she sat behind her computer all morning and didn’t introduce herself to us.

once my friends had left, i wanted to catch up on work and i’d requested a wifi code several times before she found time between staring at her computer to process one for me. that was after i’d waited over 45 minutes. she also let her waiters catch the brunt for her inefficiency since she had no time for customers.

the food and coffee was good. the service from the waiters was great.

went to market restaurant for a sunday lunch. the setting is what i love the most, very peaceful.the food is great, and served very quickly. i had the mushroom and spinach pasta, absolutely divine.service is also exceptional. will def go back!

market is a quaint restaurant because of its ambiance and location, perfect for durban weather because you can sit in the courtyard for dinner. unfortunately we were there on tuesday (quiet night for durban) and the waiter rushed our orders and didn’t offer us dessert because the staff wanted to close up early. the dishes that we order didn’t taste as great as we had read on the menu, i’m not sure if the quality was due to staff wanting to close shop :(

excellent food with great staff. chef adrian presented his plates beautifully! stunning ambience with the lighting in the outside courtyard.

i found this place to be over rated. the meals were fine, we ordered simple food for brunch, but the cocktails were overpriced (prices weren't on the drinks menu when we visited and we mistakenly assumed they were market price). there was a baby shower in the middle of the outside area, which meant the other guests were frequently distracted by their noise. friendly wait staff but you don't really get a lot of value for your money here
