lucky rodrigo

came across this cafe scrolling the zomato app, in fairness this was our second choice, not a fan of waiting in lines in restaurants. greeted by pleasant happy go lucky waiter - ironically his name is happy. the music and ambiance was relaxing and cozy. decided to indulge in theburgerspecials on this visit. my partner who's order was demanding needless to say came out perfect, still amazing service happy. chickenburgerarrived for my partner which was just perfect in its size accompanied by a mountain of fries and a very pleasing creamy jalapeno dipping sauce. theburgerin her words was yummy. i had the big hamburger with bacon and cheese which was juicy and crispy bacon is always a hit. all in all an enjoyable evening.

what an awesome place to find! very good food, good craft beer and a nice atmosphere all round.

tasty burgers and great vibe. i love their chips and theirburgeroptions. the only issue i have with them is that they can sometimes be a bit inconsistent.

service: good. food: i had the grilledburgerand salad and it was delightful! my chicken breast was slightly overcooked and dry but it was well seasoned and had an incredible marinade. the salad was fresh and not overloaded with lettuce, which is great. we ordered the deep fried dough with caramel sauce to share for dessert and it was hugely disappointing! don't order it! the dough was very oily and the caramel sauce was watery and bland.
drinks: there is a nice selection of wines and they are all brilliantly priced! we had the glen carlou cab sauv 2011 which was smooth and easy to drink. i was pleasantly surprised at how rich and complex the fantail pinotage 2012 was, a really decent pinotage at a good price.
ambience: the reason i chose to take a joburg friend of mine to luckys is because it's always vibey. last night was no exception.
area: in lynnwood which is central.
overall impression: luckys is a great restaurant and now that i've moved back to pretoria i'm sure i'll be going back there often.

there is something about a restaurant that either makes it or breaks it. the ambiance at lucky rodrigo is something that you dont often find in pretoria.  the small and quaint pub vibe makes the restaurant so inviting and warm and truly something to write home about. the food is above average and i would recommend theburgeras a must for anyone who's even the slightest but hungry.

lucky rodrigo has a lot of character and atmosphere. we had burgers which were quite filling and tasted great. a big positive is the wide variety of add-ons that you can add to your burger, enabling anyone to create aburgerthat matches their taste.

come early or make a booking to ensure that you have a table, as the hipsters of pretoria fill up this restaurant quickly. good service, good food, and a great place to have aburgerand a beer with friends. the beer is rather expensive, but the food is decently priced. i definitely recommend this to everyone, young and old alike.

the place for the pretoria hipster crowd, lucky's is a quirky retro bar with an all round great vibe. go here for after work drinks and stay to grab one of their famous burgers or corn dogs. they veggieburgeris sweet too. good spot for a pre-party dop or to chill out with mates. drinks wise they have a decent selection of craft beer, however if wine is your thing then don't expect more than your own little box of robertson's. i like that they have booths - very retro american. it's buzzing most evenings so get there early rather than later to ensure you get a table.

lucky's is the local hipster hangout in pretoria east. one can always expect a friendly crowd and very casual service. lucky's is pretty much packed every night. although most people only go there for drinks, it's a great pllace to have a casual lunch with friends. they're famous for their steri stumpie milkshakes which are quite good. my favorite meal is their vegetarian burger; aburgerconsisting of a hashbrown, roasted peppers, haloumi and sauce. apparently they're corn dogs and beef burgers are also something worth a try... well, i honestly think that lucky's is worth a try.
