wine and jalapeño spring rolls before a quiz night are the perfect combination! all for just r75... its perfect for students. cheesecake was also pretty good. such chilled vibes ,i would recommend to all.

lucky rodrigo is a warm, uncontrived and friendly pub. food is served - filling, tasty and good. but don't go there for the food. rather relax, have a drink and let the problems of the world pass you by.
my rekorderlig cider was served with an ice cold, tall glass filled with more ice. what more would one want?

wonderful little spot, great for some chilled afternoon eats and cocktails. and if you wait for the sun to set on a friday - the place gets super vibey. do yourself a favour and pop in. you won’t be sorry.

when lucky rodrigo first opened i couldn't wait to get there. my first experience was great. good food at a reasonable price, great atmosphere and friendly staff. unfortunately that has all changed. the service from the waiters is unbearably slow. the manager isn't very helpful and can be rude at times. the atmosphere is still great though. my suggestion would be to ignore the fact that they have a kitchen and think of lucky rodrigo as a bar because then you'll have a great time.

this place is my favorite hangover brekkie place in pretoria. friendly staff, rad craft beers, pretty interior. lucky's is also rad for a evening out with friends. their only downfall is a tiny bar, but other than that - really a lovely pretoria gem.

make sure to fill up on the lovely breakfast offerings, and stick around for a drink or two and make some new friends.

came across this cafe scrolling the zomato app, in fairness this was our second choice, not a fan of waiting in lines in restaurants. greeted by pleasant happy go lucky waiter - ironically his name is happy. the music and ambiance was relaxing and cozy. decided to indulge in the burger specials on this visit. my partner who's order was demanding needless to say came out perfect, still amazing service happy. chicken burger arrived for my partner which was just perfect in its size accompanied by a mountain of fries and a very pleasing creamy jalapeno dipping sauce. the burger in her words was yummy. i had the big hamburger with bacon and cheese which was juicy and crispy bacon is always a hit. all in all an enjoyable evening.

“lucky’s” is such a great restaurant that hosted quite a few res events in my time as a student in pretoria. the food is lekker, the decor is top notch and the staff make it an awesome vibe for all too. check it out and have yourself a time!

my favourite place to chill with my friends and unwind, food is really good, i recommend the halloumi salad, but the rest is also great. i've been going there for 4 years on the regular and it truely is my favourite place

great little hidden gem in the heart of pretoria , very hip and happening scene , friendly and efficient service and lovely food options . i’d definitely recommend a drink and some lunch here .

been to lucky’s a few times. always a pleasant vibey experience with good food and service. perfect spot for a few drinks and dinner after a hectic day @ work.

wonderful atmosphere. the chicken schnitzel was breathtaking (waiter's recommendation) and i had a taste of the ribs, wow!!! i need more of those.

eat out calls it ‘hipster restaurant for pretoria’, food24 mentions it’s a ‘hipster paradise’, but we call it our friend’s place. this spot has every reason to be called the local hang-out for friends. yes, you and your funky, all-nighter friends.

the big glass windows with the name in classy golden writing will pull you closer, any time of night. modern lighting and a big bar with vintage and hipster memorabilia greets you and offers a comfortable seat. with drink in hand and a visit to the ‘backyard’ bar (or ‘secret’/’cool kids’ bar area), you will feel like the party has started!

on a very busy saturday night we munched our way through the new (well, now about 3 months old) menu. tapas style, we enjoyed pub & grub dishes - burgers with homemade patties & spicy homemade sauce, peri-peri and classic finger-licking-good chicken wings, pub sandwiches, and spring rolls. and a very scrumptious pumpkin waffle for dessert. a must try when visiting.

it’s no secret that this is more of a student place & reminds of stellenbosch’s popular ‘joints’. it has a ‘afrikaans rock culture’ and the managers reflect this, and almost expect you to fall into their ‘vibe’. it’s clear that there is little intention in making other subcultures feel comfortable. so, if this is your type of place, go and support local!

i am done. lucky rodrigo recently revamped their menu, dropping favourites such as baskets and the dirty rodrigo hotdog. less than a week later the dirty rodrigo was back again, and i happily ordered one, but my happiness was short-lived: it was dry and thoroughly disappointing.

sadly, that's nothing compared to the pizza spring rolls. where they were previously a decent light meal, consisting of 2 large spring rolls with chips for r40, they're now 4 tiny store-bought-style spring rolls without any chips for r48. the inclusion of olives in these new micro-rolls overpowers their otherwise-pleasant flavour, rendering them inedible.

lucky rodrigo will unluckily not be seeing me again.

after numerous visits and holding back on a proper review - probably waiting for a miracle - i have decided to cast my vote and admit that this is not my kind of watering hole.  the restaurant is always packed (which is probably a good thing), and the waiting staff are always running around with drinks in hand (which is probably a good thing)...but the student-nightlife-vibe is not something i want to run into when going out for drinks after work.  the eccentric plants outside and the buzz makes for a comfortable atmosphere, but the meals have been average, and even more so the service - management is no-shows and everyone is squeezing past each other to get to the ill-maintained bathrooms.  let's leave it at a "student jol" and rate it for what it is.  great job at providing the students with an alternative to the far-gone days of hatfield square.
