used to like it!. i miss the old cafeloulou (i believe it was on frankfort) i had a wonderful meal and loved the atmosphere the first time i ate at this restaurant years ago. the building had character and it was a relaxed environment with amazing food. imagine my shock when i returned to town and (after raving to my bf about it) i found it had moved to a strip mall and had lost all of it's charm and uniqueness. it feels like just another restaurant inside now. and sadly yes- this affected the way my food tasted! they have completely changed the atmosphere and not for the better.

delicious food. running errands in st. matthews and tried cafeloulou on sears ave. for the first time. i loved it! the linguine with meatballs was excellent. i ordered the small portion which turned out to be large. the parking lot only had a few cars in it at 11:20am but i went in anyway. so glad i did. less than 15 minutes later the place was full. the waitress was attentive and friendly. the cafe had a cool, artsy feel to it. i plan on having lunch there again this week.

just finished our first visit to cafeloulou in st. matthews. it looked promising from the user reviews. it was after the sunday lunchtime rush. we were promptly greeted and seated. our server was courteous and attentive. we ordered the hummus as an appetizer. the pita bread was warm and soft. the hummus was good. my daughter had the caesar salad with grilled chicken. she only ate 3 or 4 bites. she said the lettuce was warm and the chicken had some red seasoning that she was not expecting. my wife had the chicken picata pasta. she said it was awful. the sauce was not what she usually and normally associates with a picata sauce. my son had a child's cheese pizza. he liked it but my wife tasted it and advised that it was not a good pizza. i had the lasagna. nothing spectacular and when i got to the center, it was cool. i wondered prior to eating it, whether they premade them and froze them for later. i am almost positive of that since it was not even lukewarm in the middle. we won't ever go back. there are better places in louisville to fill any void for italian.

our not-so-new favorite is cafeloulou. i first discovered cafeloulou thru a business lunch invitation. following the lead of my colleague i ordered the chicken portabella mushrooom roll. it was freaking awesome. the roll was surprisingly crispy and thin, almost cracker-like and the peppers, and chicken and mushrooms and sauce worked together perfectly. that was at the dundee location. since then, we've visited the st. matt location and love it. we've turned several other couples onto the cafe too, and all have loved it. my problem is that i loved that cpm roll so much that it's hard to try anything different, but i've also had the meatball roll, polenta, and lavash and it's all been wonderful. haven't had the pizza yet, but soon... the beer list alone is worth going for; i especially like the stone ipa. the service has always, i mean always been great.

if you've never been to cafe'loulou in the higlands or st. matthews, you're missing some amazing food with the flare of representing both louisville and new orleans. owner helen ellis previously lived in new orleans ten years before setting up shop in louisville and knows both locations pack a mean culinary punch. i've personally had chef jeff's famous meatball sandwich with crispy cajun waffle fries which was out of this world delicious. and one cultural food choice particularly close to their heart is the po-boy a sandwich with a background as rich as the cajun culture itelf. new orleans annual po-boy festival brings out 60,000 foodies! celebrate here in louisville november 12-14th with cafeloulou. why are po' boys so celebrated? explains helen: the name "po-boy" comes from an old new orleans tradition of one restaurant providing sandwiches for striking 'carmen', workers on the streetcars. bennie and clovis martin were former carmen who opened a restaurant in the french market in

it wasn't all that.. everybody's experience is unique. but as for me and cafeloulou wasn't a great experience. the place is extremely loud, the service was not so great, and for the food to be so expensive, i expected more.
