lou lou food & drink

this is one of our new favorite places. service is friendly and attentive. the menu is mostly italian and a good place to take a picky eater. we love the meatball sandwich.

just finished our first visit to cafe lou lou in st. matthews. it looked promising from the user reviews. it was after the sunday lunchtime rush. we were promptly greeted and seated. our server was courteous and attentive. we ordered the hummus as an appetizer. the pita bread was warm and soft. the hummus was good. my daughter had the caesar salad with grilled chicken. she only ate 3 or 4 bites. she said the lettuce was warm and the chicken had some red seasoning that she was not expecting. my wife had the chicken picata pasta. she said it was awful. the sauce was not what she usually and normally associates with a picata sauce. my son had a child's cheese pizza. he liked it but my wife tasted it and advised that it was not a good pizza. i had the lasagna. nothing spectacular and when i got to the center, it was cool. i wondered prior to eating it, whether they premade them and froze them for later. i am almost positive of that since it was not even lukewarm in the middle. we won't ever go back. there are better places in louisville to fill any void for italian.

great variety of items - love the pasta bayou. never had anything i didn't like and the service has always been excellent.

yummy. i can't say enough about this unique little place.. outstanding food and great atmosphere. love love the chicken portabella roll.. wow spicy and tasty .. appetizers are delicious as well.. good kraft beers if you desire beer.

great!. great food, excellent service at the bar. a somewhat regular spot for us and we really need to go more often. sometimes the wait at the bar is a but stuffy, but excellent attention once you're seated.

our not-so-new favorite is cafe lou lou. i first discovered cafe lou lou thru a business lunch invitation. following the lead of my colleague i ordered the chicken portabella mushrooom roll. it was freaking awesome. the roll was surprisingly crispy and thin, almost cracker-like and the peppers, and chicken and mushrooms and sauce worked together perfectly. that was at the dundee location. since then, we've visited the st. matt location and love it. we've turned several other couples onto the cafe too, and all have loved it. my problem is that i loved that cpm roll so much that it's hard to try anything different, but i've also had the meatball roll, polenta, and lavash and it's all been wonderful. haven't had the pizza yet, but soon... the beer list alone is worth going for; i especially like the stone ipa. the service has always, i mean always been great.

puzzling restaurant. visited a few months back, matt was our bartender. he was very friendly, introduced us to the chef- a young, humble seeming man who prepared us his special of the night. it was reasonably priced and delicious- rare slices of ahi tuna over a crisp jicama slaw. it was a great experience. my wife and i dined the other night, and were not so wowed. the bartender was a tall man who seemed more interested in demeaning the staff than providing good service. our food was sub par at best- the spinach artichoke pizza seemed lazily thrown together, the spinach was crispy to the point of burnt. rather than bug the bartender with our presence, we hastily payed and left. two dining experiences that could not have been more different.

the gyro is a little light on the meat.

amazing!. my new favorite place! the food was so good! we got the lou lou pizza and the four cheese ravioli with tomato cream sauce. both were to die for! the service was great too. fun atmosphere as well. over all 5 out of 5 for my first time! can't wait to go back and see if it as good as the first time!

very nice. we had lunch, family of 4. great service, great food. extremely large portions, we ended up taking as much food home as we ate. will definitely go here again.

wrong restaurant. i hate to say this but some people on here seem to be under the impression that the st mathews location is the same as the highlands one. as with any restaurants with the same name one is better than the other. if you want a good dining experience go to the one in st mathews, not the one in the highlands. i have never ordered something bad from the st mathews location.

service was poor, but in their defense they were packed. the food was alright. i liked the option to order two sizes of pasta. the carbonara tasted good at first (although one note). however when i bit into a grape sized chunk of red onion it was very off putting. especially when i found several more chunks equally as large. when leaving i was willing to give the place another try because it wasn't terrible. however, as we walked out the door i turned around and noticed their health department rating was a "c." all of this combined means i probably won't be back.

wow!! shrimp and grits are soo amazing here!! damn!
