california surfer burrito. i went when the restaurant was empty one saturday night andorderedthe california surfer burrito with shrimp and fries. it was wonderful. it was as delicious as a burrito from chipotle but far more interesting. the service was super friendly (it's really a counter service restaurant) and the atmosphere was nice. i really want another california surfer soon!

big disappointment. if you want good mexican food, this is definately not the place. my first time and really thought i would be happy and satisfied. first, the salsa was more pureed than real mexican salsa should normally be. second, iorderedchili colorado and the red chili had a weird taste and the meat was cheap gristle meat! i picked out a few pieces of meat which was very little, and the mashed beans taste like it was outta the can! although, the owner was friendly even after i told him that i grew up in new mexico where "real" mexican food was made he wasn't so friendly after i made comments after the meal because he stopped over to our table and asked so i told him. if you want good mexican food i have found that "el torro" in zelionople is good and "guiterrez mexican food" in butler, pa. is excellent! well worth the drive! unfortunately, i will not be back to this particular establishment. i will keep trying out new places for good mexican food which i love and miss. good luck!

great tacos. one night, my boyfriend and i decided to get los cabos for takeout, being that we were in the mood for some tacos, but not in the mood to pay the price for tacos at verde. (very good, but expensive) weorderedabout 6 tacos in a variety of flavors. they were all wonderful, except the potato. it was more like a mashed potato in a tortilla, and the toppings didn't add much flavor. my favorite taco is the pollo asado. overall, great toppings, great food. the only other complaint i have with them is they consistently say 20 minutes for your order to be ready, and i'm usually there waiting another 10 for it. but, well worth the wait for some yummy tacos!

steer clear from the pollo asado. i heard from a friend that this is the place for mexican in pittsburgh. i really like mexican food, and was excited to try los cabos. maybe my expectations were too high. first, my chips were stale, and i asked the waitress to bring me different ones, but the next batch was the same... stale and chewy. it also took forever to get my food, since the place was busy for lunch. iorderedthe pollo asado quesadilla, and it was disgusting. the meat was dry and flavorless, and there were even some burnt parts that were impossible to bite into. the tortilla was burnt, and there was not enough cheese. the pico de gallo was runny, but pretty tasty, and the guac was brown and runny. i told my friend about my experience, and she said to try the fish tacos or a vegetarian item. my advise? stay far far away from the pollo asado.

first time=mediocre but would try again. i was not too impressed with my food. iorderedthe carnitas burrito. the tortilla was hardened and difficult to cut through. the pork was very dry and contained some clumps of fat. there was also hardly any pico de gallo or guacamole on the burrito, though i did like the flavor of both.

i would go back (i think it's worth another try or two), but i would not order the carnitas burrito again. i'd probably try out some of the tacos, as a friend whoorderedthem was happy with her meal.

i would also avoid the steak meal, as the meat was extremely tough, and my friend was not able to cut (or even bite through) it.

i've only been here once so i'll revise this after i go back.ordered2 carne asada hard tacos and refried beans. no steak but shredded beef w/o much flavor and the beef seemed to be of average quality. the corn tortillas weren't that great (reyna's wins hands down with their daily made ones). refried beans were very average. i didn't finish mine and helped a friend work on his nachos which were good. another friend was given a sample of flan and she said it was pretty bad. i think the problem with this place is/will be people who want a place who uses higher quality ingredients.

also when i see # 10 cans of standard brand tomatoes in the summer it's a bad sign for me. not impressed.

not bad but hope it will get better. my boyfriend and i had been discussing how wonderful it would be to finally have a mexican place in our 'hood. we are die hard "east enders" and we tend to keep our money local. we went on a thursday evening around 6pm and were waited on quickly. the lady taking our order was friendly and the entire staff was helpful.. we were handed menus and told to place our orders up front. we took a seat to review the menu and a very cordial gentleman brought us some chips and salsa. the chips were fantastic and the salsa wasn't bad. one or the other could have used some salt, although i appreciate that neither was salted. this gave me the option to salt my chips.
we both ended up ordering the same thing; a combo of beef taco and chicken enchilada with an additional tamale for one dollar. iorderedone order of beans and rice for us to share. when they brought out our order, they had given us both beans and rice, which was nice. here is what was great....the food was hot and looked fresh. the enchilada sauce was great, the tamale was perfect even though it was chicken and not beef like on the menu, and the hard beef taco was great although a little greasy. the only thing i can really say was not good was the chicken in the enchilada. it tasted like it had been boiled with no seasoning and then added to the mix of onions and peppers later.
i will certainly go back. i am hoping that anything that wasn't good was due to it being opening week. my displaced texan boyfriend couldn't find anything bad to say but he would eat a baseball mitt covered in mustard and like it.
