legends eatery

mediocre. went to legends because it rated as "the best coconut cream pie in pittsburgh". before dessert, ordered the penne pasta with sausage and artichokes. the portion size was way too large and the pasta was flavorless. my daughter ordered the spaghetti with meatball. she enjoyed the meatball, but the spaghetti tasted like plain tomato sauce from a can.

as for the coconut cream pie, the whipped cream topping was delicious. but the lower layer was a rubbery, yellowish custard. the flavor was good but the texture and appearance were off-putting.

on top of everything, the decor was tacky and outdated (framed pittsburgh sports memorabilia). not planning on returning any time soon.

excellent food, service, and fun!. we, 12 all told, visited legends tonight. we were a large group and enjoyed quick seating as it was beginning to rain and there was no line at the time. the accommodations were fine. the dinner i had was wonderful. i ordered the mussels and shrimp bianco. i chose the red sauce and a salad with basaltic vinaigrette. i have never before tasted an entrée with as much flavor and delicious smells as this meal. when all was done i was also surprised at the amount paid, very reasonable. i would recommend this restaurant.

don't go with a "large" party! i have visited legends a few times before with either just my husband or one of two friends. reservations are necessary here, as it is very small and popular. my husband wanted to have a get together for my birthday on saturday. there was a group if six of us. we arrived at 7:50 for our 8pm reservation that were made a week in advance. we waited. and waited. and waited. my husband asked if it would be long around 8:30, to which someone told him they would check (no one ever got back to him). i had enough when a party of 5 without reservations was seated before us at a 6 top table. when i mentioned this, the one waitress was very apologetic and said we would be seated shortly. however, another was quite rude and said "well we can't move tables across the restaurant to seat you!". funny, because i just watched you seat another party before us at an available large table. admit you messed up, rather than yell at the customer. another aspect of our wait was no one offered to take our cold wine or beer and place them in the cooler until 8:50, or offer us a drink. we were finally seated at 9:10. the food was excellent, so i can't say anything bad there. however, our compensation was a bread and cheese app. i feel that we shouldn't have been charged corkage or something for our ridiculous wait, especially since they offered us our own beer during the wait, so i find it tacky to do so then charge me for it. my husband also told them that it was my birthday during the reservations. a table next to us also had a birthday, and were given a slice of cake with a candle in it. i received nothing. in hindsight, i really wish our party had left and went somewhere else to eat. we had plans to go out afterwards, but ending dinner at 10:45 at night kind of put a damper on the rest of our night. it will be a long time (if ever) before i go back here. thanks for making my birthday celebration so special...

awesome food, tight seating. it's like eating italian food in a european cafe, your space might be invaded but the food more than makes up for it. great, great food on the north side. we especially liked the mussels diablo appetizer. enough mussels to share in a spicy habanero sauce. we ordered it with double habaneros, to die for. along with it being byob a definite home run. must try!!!

came here for valentines day with my girlfriend. absolutely incredible. the food was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect. only complaint is how close the tables are but since it's extremely limited seating it's worth it.

reservations rarely work. management does not move diners along, allowing them to sip coffee while many stand in doorway or outside waiting. with reservations we waited 30-40 min past our time.

i felt like i was on heaven!!!! every flavor just mingled in your mouth...very nice food even though we didn't have a reservation we sat at the bar. very fun and casual atmosphere but at the same time 5 plus star dining experience!!! the food is just awesome awesome!!! i will definitely be back before i leave town!! i am from atlanta and this has been a wonderful dining experience for me. thank you!!

friday night on the north shore. friday night, just gave it a try without a reservation. there were no tables available for the foreseeable future so we sat at the 4 seat counter. did so with hesitation but turned out to be a good move. better to have supped than not at all at this little gem of a place. started with the mussels in slightly tangy, spicey sauce. they were a ten. follow that with a solid house salad and virginia spots and an eggplant entre with polenta and sausage that i just loved. both meals were simply wonderful. the gravy was perfect, the portions substantial without being excessive and if you don't get the apple pie ala mode you will have missed the best apple pie i have had this side of my mother's kitchen. truth be told it might be even better but i'd never admit that to my mom. the staff could not have been nicer and more accomodating. this place will get my return business and it should get yours.

this restaurant is not vegan friendly despite what this site says. every item on the menu contains meat and/or cheese. you can request them left out but the food is still cooked on the same surfaces and contains little particles. when i advised the waitress that i could not eat there because i am vegan, she shrugged and walked away. will never return or reccomend.

rude waitress. their waitresses need to know that it is rude to make fun of someone's dislike of certain foods and if they do it , they do not need to continually make remarks throughout the whole meal. i will not be back as my evening was ruined by the constant reference to my dislike for onions. like i am the only person in the world who does not like onions. i even left my leftovers behind because i was so upset with her at that point. then she even had to mention it again before i left. i have never encountered this type of behavior at any restaurant and we eat out twice a week.

fantastic!. we were looking for a new place to try and legends had been on our list. please let me tell you we were more than thrilled with our experience. friendly and attentive staff, a charming and upbeat environment, and fabulous food made for a great date night! we will definitely be back...often!

so happy we found this place!. it made for a great date night. delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. also, the staff is very attentive. i loved the menu as well. it was diverse, so there's something for everyone, but not overwhelmingly large like some other places we've been to.

kinda crowded and cramped, hardest working group of employees i have ever seen. food was outstanding, moms sauce was a little cold but polenta eggplant and assuage wow. great to see a family run pittsburgh restaraunt a success. my hats off

great food and great service!. we were visiting from out of town and staying in the north shore area. found legends from the urbanspoon and i can say my family was very pleased with our experience. living in georgia the one thing i miss from back home is the "mom and pop" style restaurants were you can get great food and service. our legends experience was awesome and the service was on point. i cannot wait until the next time we go back there!

legendary for sure. i have eaten here many times and cannot get over how delicious the food is and how friendly everyone is!!
