i called on a friday afternoon for a reservation for a party of two, luckily they were able to squeeze us in at 7:45. thank god i called! this unassuming neighborhood spot doesn't have more than 10-15 tables max, most of which are close to each other. i don't mind if my table is close to the people dining next to me, i actually prefer the energy it brings and i must say the vibe was spot on in legends. it very much reminded me of an authentic neighborhood spot tucked away in nyc. you're served warm focaccia bread with olive oil to start which was a nice precursor to the meal. i chose the chicken parmigiana while my boyfriend had the gnocchi bolognese. each entree came with a deliciously fresh salad, it is clearlegendsdoes not skimp on the quality of the food being served. our entrees were wonderful, i could tell my chicken had been made to order and breaded just before being cooked. we ended our meal with the apple pie which was garnished with what seemed to be amazing home made whipped cream. service was good, you can tell it's a group effort which is fine by me. i will absolutely be back for more!

legends of the north shore is one of the best italian restaurants you are going to find in pittsburgh.  every item on the menu is delicious.  it always comes out hot and fast.  the staff is friendly and the prices are adequate.  the only reason this doesn't get a rating of 5.0 is because the place is super tight.  you are definitely making friends with the people at the next table.  iflegendswere in a bigger place this would be an 11 on the 10 scale!

best italian in the city.legendsis a hidden gem. located in the deutschtown section of the northside right next to allegheny general hospital. the rejuvenation of this great neighborhood can be evidenced in all the rehab/and new development projects in the area.legendsis smack dab in the middle of this transformation. it truly is the best italian food in the city. chef dan's daily specials are what i most often get, and you can taste the passion and thought that goes into crafting his tasty creations. also the greens and beans appetizer is one of my favorites. its byob which i love. you will not be disappointed.

mediocre. went tolegendsbecause it rated as "the best coconut cream pie in pittsburgh". before dessert, ordered the penne pasta with sausage and artichokes. the portion size was way too large and the pasta was flavorless. my daughter ordered the spaghetti with meatball. she enjoyed the meatball, but the spaghetti tasted like plain tomato sauce from a can.

as for the coconut cream pie, the whipped cream topping was delicious. but the lower layer was a rubbery, yellowish custard. the flavor was good but the texture and appearance were off-putting.

on top of everything, the decor was tacky and outdated (framed pittsburgh sports memorabilia). not planning on returning any time soon.

excellent food, service, and fun!. we, 12 all told, visitedlegendstonight. we were a large group and enjoyed quick seating as it was beginning to rain and there was no line at the time. the accommodations were fine. the dinner i had was wonderful. i ordered the mussels and shrimp bianco. i chose the red sauce and a salad with basaltic vinaigrette. i have never before tasted an entrée with as much flavor and delicious smells as this meal. when all was done i was also surprised at the amount paid, very reasonable. i would recommend this restaurant.

don't go with a "large" party! i have visitedlegendsa few times before with either just my husband or one of two friends. reservations are necessary here, as it is very small and popular. my husband wanted to have a get together for my birthday on saturday. there was a group if six of us. we arrived at 7:50 for our 8pm reservation that were made a week in advance. we waited. and waited. and waited. my husband asked if it would be long around 8:30, to which someone told him they would check (no one ever got back to him). i had enough when a party of 5 without reservations was seated before us at a 6 top table. when i mentioned this, the one waitress was very apologetic and said we would be seated shortly. however, another was quite rude and said "well we can't move tables across the restaurant to seat you!". funny, because i just watched you seat another party before us at an available large table. admit you messed up, rather than yell at the customer. another aspect of our wait was no one offered to take our cold wine or beer and place them in the cooler until 8:50, or offer us a drink. we were finally seated at 9:10. the food was excellent, so i can't say anything bad there. however, our compensation was a bread and cheese app. i feel that we shouldn't have been charged corkage or something for our ridiculous wait, especially since they offered us our own beer during the wait, so i find it tacky to do so then charge me for it. my husband also told them that it was my birthday during the reservations. a table next to us also had a birthday, and were given a slice of cake with a candle in it. i received nothing. in hindsight, i really wish our party had left and went somewhere else to eat. we had plans to go out afterwards, but ending dinner at 10:45 at night kind of put a damper on the rest of our night. it will be a long time (if ever) before i go back here. thanks for making my birthday celebration so special...

in one word- awesome! in several words- every time i've been tolegendsof the north shore i've been impressed. during lent, the fish sandwich is to die for! the penne vodka dish is hands down the best. but, on valentine's day 2012 the shrimp and chicken dish was the best meal i think i've ever eaten! the owner, chef dan, is a creative genius and the staff are wonderful too.

what a great neighborhood restaurant. very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive wait-staff, and delicious and consistent food.legendshas mastered the art of "doing a few things, and doing them very well." the menu is small & focused, its variation delivered in the specials, and again, the chef prepares everything with consistent high quality. regardless of our wait-staff --and we've had them all-- the service is spot-on; these people seem to enjoy their jobs and are genuinely pleased to see you, a welcome attitude any time i'm spending money. as for the corkage fee--i don't understand all the belly-aching. the $4/glass charge is by no means out of standard, and is an acknowledgement that you are bringing something from outside to consume in their restaurant. frankly, i'm pleased that i can bring my own wine; it puts me in charge of the wine cellar for my meal.

definetly worth it!!. i don't understand what the bad reviews are about. i have been a loyal customer since i moved to pittsburgh. i find the food to be consistently flavorful and plentiful. as far as a cover charge, i have no idea what that is about...i have never been charged any sort of cover, nor do i think that is a correct statement. there is a corkage fee, which i don't mind, because i save so much money by bringing my favorite bottle of wine, minus the mark-up most restaurants charge! the selfish part of me doesn't mind that some people can't appreciate fantastic food and service; it will make it that much easier for me to get a reservation!!

always amazing!. i can't even count the number of times i have eaten here; i love it that much!legendsfood is amazing from start to finish! their bread and dipping oil is always fresh and plentiful. the salads are crisp and perfectly prepared, you can tell they are made when ordered. they always have a couple soups to choose from as well. there is nothing on the menu that i wouldn't recommend and their desserts are probably the best in the city. also, they always offer complimentary fudge at the end of each meal. i really couldn't ask for more from a restaurant. perfect!

beware of corkage fee!!. the food is great and i love the charm of a small restaurant but watch out as their corkage fee is $4 per person not per bottle!!! there is no way to justify such a charge and as a result i find myself avoiding dining here out of principle. i'd love to hear fromlegendswhy they charge such a high fee.

on the fence.. we stopped intolegendsfor lunch, bringing in our own bottle of wine. we ordered from a knowledgeable staff. the food was fresh and the items we had ordered were delicious! my complaints are 1) inform me of a cork charge at lunch time. $8.00 is a bit high, i think. 2) i had ordered a cheese pizza for my daughter, it was 15.00. perhaps the cheeses were imported and costly but this charge, again at lunch, is outrageous. so, overall, service is friendly and informed (but not enough to inform you of charges), food was good but pricey on "staple" items. if i go back at least i'm informed.
