my hostess told me that this is the oldest restaurant in san antonio. quite a claim to fame. my meal tonight was superb. i ordered the callejeras which are chicken enchiladas in an ancho chile sauce, served with avocado and potatoes con chorizo. this is a departure from your normal yellow cheese enchiladas. light and flavorful without the overpowering flavor of comino and chili powder. the atmosphere is nice, but not pretentious. service was top notch.

when friday came around, we had mexican food on the brain. being houstonians, we know our tex-mex and we knew just the place to get our fix. la fonda on main is the oldest mexican restaurant in san antonio. located in a historic area, this restaurant has become a staple in the community for over 80 years.

great outdoor dining. every time i have been here we have sat outside and i love their patio. the food has never disappointed and the service is always good.

went for dinner as a family of three (we share). my daughter had the duck tacos she really liked them and they were tender. my wife had enchiladas, nothing special. i had the skirt steak. the meat was exceptional and sauce was great. the potatoes we’re undercooked and the rest was average. the service was a tad slow. overall not bad, but not the 4th best mexican restaurant in san antonio.

made this our last stop before heading to the airport. outstanding food and service. the owners came by to talk to us. seemed to appreciate that we chose this place. probably the best meal we had in san antonio.very nice older neighborhood. service was outstanding as well. prices very reasonable for the area.

if you are anywhere near san antonio you must visit la fonda on main. your taste buds require the visit. the menu is a excellent mix of mexican specialties in a wonderful atmosphere with unbelievably attentive service.

my waiter marcellino was excellent at recommending things to try from drinks to dining everything was top notch. i can't wait to have a trip to san antonio so i can go here again.

food is excellent and unique.  atmosphere is lovely.  however, the new policy of refusing separate checks for groups means my friends and i won't be enjoying this restaurant.  what a shame they opt to discriminate against groups (seniors, in my case) who choose to pick up their own checks and have no one who can afford to treat the entire group.

la fonda on main is a very enjoyable spot for brunch. my family and i go every sunday, it is always very relaxing and the service is always great!! not only is the service great but the food and drinks are wonderful:-))

very impressed! busy place, thank goodness i made reservations. we were seated immediately inside, the place was full inside and out. chips, salsa and caesar's queso did not disappoint. homemade chips and thick tortillas were delicious. we had enchiladas callejeras and tex amex enchiladas. both were so good we over stuffed ourselves. i highly recommend this place for date night and out of town guests. i will definitely be back.

extremely good mexican food. place was packed on a monday evening... good sign.
add an excellent location and ambiance. i would have loved to sit at that bar, but our table was ready when we got there. beautiful windows and outdoor seating.
the service was also excellent. ask for the specials and seriously consider them.
these folks know what they are doing.

the best meal we had after a week in southeastern texas. we found it on zamato, and are glad we did. the food is fresh and creative, yet still traditional mexican. don't miss a meal here!

we just left and i couldn't wait to review this place. we had just rolled into town and found this place on zomato. we skipped lunch so an early dinner was in order. great decision. this isn't your ordinary dive food place. both specialty and regional food is offered. it was all good. the enchiladas were made with red corn tortillas. yummy!

one of the best san antonio restaurants. la fonda is the perfect mix of classy and reasonable and their food is always delicious! i stick to my favorites, the la fonda special, tacos de pato, and carne asada a la tampiquena, and have never been disappointed! the casa alicia is an incredible event venue, the patio is a peaceful garden, and the inside is a slightly more formal feel. all in all, good food with a fun feel! their lunch specials are a well kept secret and a great way to enjoy the tasty cuisine at a fraction the price.

great night out at la fonda. my fiance and i made reservations for saturday at 7 in the dining room. we had to wait a few minutes for our table to be cleaned off, while they took some other couples that walked in after us with reservations directly to their seats in front of us. the table we sat at was near a window and it felt like the whole floor/table was leaning over towards to the window. after we got past that, the top shelf margaritas were delicious and the carne asada plate was also very good. we ordered the queso fundido with chorizo for appetizer, and although it was good it was not the best. the cheese had almost no flavor and it was very liquidy. overall, very good still.

great food.  had the spinach enchiladas and a gold margarita.  what an awesome combination!  just perfect!  highly recommend la fonda.  the patio is such wonderful atmosphere too.
