when friday came around, we had mexicanfoodon the brain. being houstonians, we know our tex-mex and we knew just the place to get our fix. la fonda on main is the oldest mexican restaurant in san antonio. located in a historic area, this restaurant has become a staple in the community for over 80 years.

great outdoor dining. every time i have been here we have sat outside and i love their patio. thefoodhas never disappointed and the service is always good.

made this our last stop before heading to the airport. outstandingfoodand service. the owners came by to talk to us. seemed to appreciate that we chose this place. probably the best meal we had in san antonio.very nice older neighborhood. service was outstanding as well. prices very reasonable for the area.

la fonda on main is a very enjoyable spot for brunch. my family and i go every sunday, it is always very relaxing and the service is always great!! not only is the service great but thefoodand drinks are wonderful:-))

the best meal we had after a week in southeastern texas. we found it on zamato, and are glad we did. thefoodis fresh and creative, yet still traditional mexican. don't miss a meal here!

we just left and i couldn't wait to review this place. we had just rolled into town and found this place on zomato. we skipped lunch so an early dinner was in order. great decision. this isn't your ordinary divefoodplace. both specialty and regionalfoodis offered. it was all good. the enchiladas were made with red corn tortillas. yummy!

one of the best san antonio restaurants. la fonda is the perfect mix of classy and reasonable and theirfoodis always delicious! i stick to my favorites, the la fonda special, tacos de pato, and carne asada a la tampiquena, and have never been disappointed! the casa alicia is an incredible event venue, the patio is a peaceful garden, and the inside is a slightly more formal feel. all in all, goodfoodwith a fun feel! their lunch specials are a well kept secret and a great way to enjoy the tasty cuisine at a fraction the price.

overall disappointed - overrated food. we are fairly new residents of san antonio. we've been wanting to try lafonda on main and finally made it last night. we were a table of 4 adults. we each ordered fajitas (2 chicken, 1 beef, 1 shrimp) & margaritas on the rocks (2 each). the margaritas were fantastic...made from scratch with fresh squeezed lime juice. but thefoodwas disappointing. the complimentary salsa was nothing special and was full of seeds. the fajitas were average and the portions skimpy. don't get me wrong, we are not huge eaters and don't mind if there are no leftovers. still...the portions were skimpy and we had to ask for extra tortillas. they only brought out at total of 4 for the table. of course, asking for extra tortillas isn't a big deal. thefoodwas presented beautifully and the waiter was attentive without hovering, which was appreciated. however, even with the beautiful surroundings and atmosphere, none of it was remotely worth the $166 tab (with tip). i doubt we will return, even for the fantastic margaritas.

great place! not your average mexicanfoodjoint, so don't go looking for traditional dishes. will definitely be going back!

i have been coming here since i was a little kid. it is our go to place for greatfoodand drinks and the service is always amazing! go on a pretty day and sit outside it is the best!

very good tex-mex; great mexican courtyard/patio ambiance;foodis consistently very good; mature, attentive wait staff; margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice and real sugar.... they use a classic, traditional, old school recipe from mexico like you would get in mexico city or acapulco. their guacamole is the best on the planet; the classic plate is the "natalata mexican plate" it's a nice sample of everything tex-mex; like mi tierra, los barrios, casa rio and jacala, la fonda is a "must visit" destination restaurant that everyone needs to try! enjoy!

continually unimpressed for three times. thefoodis always presented well but it isn't anything special. prices are way too high for what they serve. portions are too small. i think they can put a little morefoodon the plate for the amount they charge. even with $10 coupon, i still was not delighted with the value. the restaurant does have a nice atmosphere and servers are usually good. i wish they would have more substantial dishes.

tommy k.foodwas ok price was way to high for what you get.. the service was really bad saturday after !:00 pm waited a long time to place are order ..the waiter was the most un friendly that i have seen in a long time...even one of the managers that walked around to different tables to see how every thing was just skipped us and an went to the next table so sad...

sunday brunch. the sunday brunch can't be beat. this is not a "tex-mex" restaurant, thank goodness. it is authentic mexicanfoodre-created to reflect higher cuisine. we take our sunday paper and enjoy the ambiance.
